That looks like it would have been a good game.
Well, I got FJ right today.
And the reigning champion did not.
Props to Rhone for going all in on that DD when he had to.
Ken damn near told him to!
I found this interesting:
Amy said to Rhone after the show, “I was worried about you.” She went on to compliment him on his gameplay. He’s blown away by his win and her compliments, but it is a pleasant exchange.

Select the January 26 “Overheard.”
I’m glad that it was a really nice guy who finally did it. Congrats to them both.
And yeah, I got FJ.
I do feel a bit sorry for the third place contestant during that conversation, though. She’s right there in the middle, but no one’s paying any attention to her.
that was really interesting. thank you for the link.
The New York Times spoiled the result for me – they sent out a notification when the show aired, East Coast Time. Thanks, NYT.
I had no idea on the answer. My mental table of countries is not indexed by last letter.
I paused it and thought about it for a long while. It took my wife and me about 2 minutes to mentally go over the world map, but we got it.
I got FJ right away, about 5 seconds. Don’t know why. I find the mind’s ability to recover data fascinating.
The other day, I was watching STTNG Cause and Effect, and I could not remember the name of the actor who played the time traveling ship’s captain. I remembered Frasier, and Niles and Lilith (and I never watched Frasier!), I remembered Sideshow Bob, and the Pirates of Penzance, I knew the name of Down Periscope, but I could NOT remember his name. I even went through the alphabet of names - Art, Bob, Bill, Carl… Nothing.
I asked my wife: she gave me a single clue - his name is a part of speech. Immediately I got both names. How does that work?? How is that stored in your brain?
I did too, the trick for me was the part of the clue that said it was one of the most populous countries and I immediately thought of India, then remembered Bangladesh which was right next to it. Also, that country always stuck with me from childhood because it was the most densely-populated country in the world (at the time, it might not be anymore), and I never wanted to live there.
Me, too. Exact path. Except I never think of that country as being highly populated (hey, not all the data in my head are correct!), just hungry, but it does end in H, and since they said it was the only one, well, there you go!
But no one remembers “countries by their last letters”, so that makes this one a good FJ. You can’t just know it, you have to figure it out.
I got it before he was done reading the clue (no idea why) and the population part sealed it. Some of the others Amy got right left me thinking, “How in the world would anybody know that?” I had a good feeling about Rhone early on but when he got that one DJ wrong, I figured he was done. I’m looking forward to seeing Amy in the Tournament of Champions.
Given enough time I’m sure I would have come up with it, but in 30 seconds, no way.
Oddly, the first thing that popped into my head was “Marrakesh,” which, of course, is not a country, so I dismissed it. Now I think that was my brain trying to get me to the right answer, and I should have paid more attention to that first instinct. Oh well, nothing at stake for me.
I could see in Amy’s face that she didn’t have it. Hard to feel too bad for her, though, walking away with over 1.2 million and the chance to win more in tournaments. I enjoyed her run.
Rhône played an impressive game all the way to the end. I kind of hope he wins at least 5 to get to the TOC himself.
Second-best champion in show history, after only host Jennings. She was awesome and has well-deserved fame for it (however short-lived it might be).
We went from being a household that watched the show on occasion to making sure to catch every episode because of her. She wasn’t only a winner, but she was likeable, because she was so normal and relatable. You just wanted to root for her and seeing her win every time felt like being a winner. Congratulations to her.
the main thing i know about bangladesh is that for many years typhoons would wipe out hundreds of thousand people seemingly year after year. i always wondered how that country still had people. the death tolls were unimaginable.
It was always bad news- typhoons, floods, and ferry sinking. Always with the ferrys sinking.
I love Rhone’s glasses!
