Did you get to see the episode earlier than us? Because that was in today’s episode. And is IS duboys! Whadday know about that, I have always read it as Du Bwah.
Nm, discourse fodder
I didn’t see the Final Jeopardy (about reptiles and Ozempic) due to news “special report”. Luckily there j-archive. I would not have given the correct response.
Brian
I actually did get it. I have no idea how I knew, or could even hazard a guess. My second choice was Jonathan’s. I find it fascinating when the contestants and I get the same wrong answer. Got to be some way the “Jeopardy” mindset works. Out of all the wrong answers we both followed the path to that one.
I actually got it right, but it was a wild-ass guess.
Ditto.
The clue lacked any information which might narrow down the choice between the many kinds venomous snakes. So I went with the first non-serpentine venomous reptile that came to mind. Turned out to be the correct one.
The story behind this (the connection between Gila monster venom and GLP-1 medications) is an interesting one. It’s told in this New York Times Magazine story (gift link) from November 2024. Note that the research started in 1980 at the National Institutes of Health, to give you an idea of how long these things can take.
I knew today’s final jeopardy right away, but from the movie not the book. None of the three contestants got it.
I was amazed, especially the middle (older) guy that got all the old pop culture who didn’t get it either..
We immediately got it because of the film.
I got the name of the story, but somehow forgot who wrote it. I saw it when I binge watched a bunch of Hollywood (and British) horror movies from TCM last Halloween. Poor Claude Rains who gave a great performance without his face appearing. The special effects were amazing for the time; I had to rewind the unwrapping to see if I could figure out how they did it - I couldn’t.
Another triple-stumper today (3/11) on FJ:
Category: Military Installations
Home to dry lake beds in the Mojave, it was once known as Muroc Field & later renamed for a test pilot who died in a crash
What is Edwards Air Force Base?
I got it right, although I will freely admit it was a total guess. But I damn sure knew it wasn’t Yeager, an answer offered by two of the contestants.
It all depends on what you’re into. For me, that was a gimme.
Funny coincidence. The gal guessed “Goose” whose real name is…
Edwards
I hope the above is hidden. I didn’t realize I should have spoilered it until after I posted. Tried to edit, but I couldn’t figure out how to spoiler.
If not, maybe a mod could fix it.
I guessed the correct answer because I’ve heard it often in the news. Plus, I couldn’t think of another military installation in that geographic area.
That one was easy. Of course, I’m a space/aviation nut, have lived in California most of my life and been on Edwards as a guest of JPL to watch the shuttle land after launching Hubble.
Yes, I got Final with no problems. Of course, “Muroc” helped; I recall the name from when I was young and fascinated by this stuff, and how the name changed later.
Hehe, I’m a day late, but I didn’t initially know the answer. My wife knew it, but she couldn’t recall the name. She looked at me and made chomping motions with her hand. I figured, ok, a bunch of bites. The Gila monster has to chew on you to get its poison into you, so Gila monster?
Turns out she wasn’t even meaning chewing with her hand motion, she didn’t even know they lacked fangs. I just got lucky by associating it with her vague hand motion.
