Jeopardy! Season 42. It is what it is

So they were saying, “Who are the Wrights, brother?”

Here we go again…

Jamie did try to achieve a $100k final score back on April 1. He had 55800 and bet 44200, but got it wrong. It was still a safe bet though, the second place player had 5200 going into FJ. Ken commented “he was trying to get into the top 10, surrounded by a bunch of James Holzhauers”.

As I recall that schedule was mentioned fairly often years ago, and it was said to be a contractual requirement by Alex Trebek. Maybe that wasn’t true, as a search indicates it’s still ‘two days a week, five episodes per day.’ However I’m seeing conflicting reports on whether the two days are Monday and Tuesday, or Tuesday and Wednesday.

It was a heckuva game today (Thursday 4/23). Two good challengers. But a FJ that I thought was relatively easy, even though not all 3 players answered correctly.

Yes, a great game today (April 23). But I was surprised at one player’s FJ response. If anything, I thought the year would have given it away.

Reluctant to say more, in case not everybody has seen the episode yet.

Yeah, I also came up with the same incorrect response. So obvious in hindsight.

A while back, I THINK we determined that at 9:00 ET we could discuss the game without fear of reprisal from anybody who has yet to watch the episode.

Or did I dream that?

I guessed the Final Jeopardy question correctly.

I was lost on that one, so I guessed “cigarettes”

Yeah, that was a really good game.

The local station that airs Jeopardy! runs a commercial an hour later, saying for instance, “Jamie won again, can he keep his streak going? On the next episode…” We record it, so if I see the spoiler it kind of makes me not want to even watch the episode that I just taped.

The Final Jeopardy wasn’t easy for me, but I did get it. I like those where the response isn’t obvious, but I can figure it out with a little thought.

I thought the last Daily Double was very easy, but maybe wouldn’t be for everyone.

Wow great game tonight, and a really gutsy DD bet (and correct answer!) by the challenger. I thought he had the game until Jamie then did the same. Of course the FJ would be something super easy. As soon as I saw the clue I knew Jamie would get it too. So close to getting a new champ!

Jamie Ding was on Good Morning America this morning (April 24th). I wasn’t paying close attention, but seemed friendly and personable from what I saw.

Brian

I’m actually glad Jamie was ahead going into FJ. If Patrick had been ahead (and bet enough to win) and gotten it wrong like he did it would have been heartbreaking.

Yeah, he seems like a pretty nice guy. He always makes a point to acknowledge the other players after the game, especially ones who make him work for it. I love the fact that he wanted to be described as a faceless bureaucrat in his intro, but the Jeopardy producers wouldn’t let him. I don’t get the hate.

It’s actually interesting as they’re digging deeper in the “meet the contestants” segment. The “MC Gandalf the Fresh& his Hip Hobbits” team name really belies his bureaucrat description.

Agreed. That would have been crushing for the anti-Jamie crowd (of which I am a part of).

I don’t really dislike him, but I’m certainly ready for a new champion.

For those who think Jamie is boring, you should be glad that I’ve never tried out for the show. If I did, you’d be nostalgic for how exciting Jamie Ding was.
