Is there a technical definition on what constitutes a blood sport?
I think that this is a common misconception of the sport, and chances are the people who think like this are die hard WWE fans.
MMA is NOT about the violence and blood etc. Its about competition in its simplest sense. Athletes train very hard in many aspects of the fight game to ever improve. Not only to be able to defeat their opponent, but also to protect themselves in the process.
I will be the first to admit that watching a fighter get cut (and having fights stopped because of cuts) isnt why I watch the sport. Fighters who deliberately try to cut their opponent because they know it CAN cause a stoppage pisses me off to no end as well.
MMA is not about the violence - its about the competition.
Those who watch the sport for that very reason rank only one or 2 notches above the likes of Jeremy Jackson.

I was a die hard WWE fan when i was 8. Saying a fighting sport is not about the violence makes you look silly, im sorry.
I haven’t heard an official definition, because pretty much everyone involved in a blood sport denies their sport is one.
But I would be confident in saying that any sport where participants deliberately pound on each others bodies and blood is occasionaly drawn is a blood sport.
Maybe that’s too narrow. It leaves things out like bull fighting or dog fighting.
How about combat sports that that frequently result in bleeding or injury?
Yes, absolutely this mixed martial arts thing is a blood sport by any reasonable definition.
It’s a sport in and of itself.
Yes, but not a blood sport, unless someone gets so pissed at you they punch you in the nose.
Which gives me a thought… the next time I punch somebody out, when the police show up I’ll tell them I was engaging in a bloodsport, not an assault. Maybe they’ll buy it.
Nope, he’s a celebrity. He’ll probably be driving against Jason Statham on television.
I’m not so sure it won’t be fucked with. Prison has some bad dudes in it. Some of those bad dudes might be bigger and/or tougher. And some of them might just welcome to opportunity to show everyone else just how badass they are by kicking the living shit out of a genuine MMA fighter.
Likewise - and on the same hand, it would appear that you arent seeing passed the ‘violence’ of the sport. (Which IMO makes you narrow minded/short sighted)
Granted this sport isnt for everyone, but saying that its only about the violence is ridiculous.

No one’s saying it’s only about the violence. YOU said it’s not about the violence. Implying pretty strongly it’s not about the violence at all, since it’s all about the competition.
And really, putting violence in quotes? Are you suggesting the sport isn’t really violent?
Of course Im not implying that the sport isn’t violent, Its a contact sport. (So is Football)
But my point is that the sport isnt solely based on the fact that one guy is beating the shit out of another. Many people see it only as that and label it as the afore mentioned ‘human cockfighting’.
This is a contact sport. People will get bruised and bloodied, but thats not what the sport is about. Unfortunately it would seem that the masses are more fascinated by this aspect than any other part. I see it as much more diverse than one guy just punching anothers face in.

What is the sport about?
Try being in a NASCAR fantasy league and then tell me you still enjoy the wrecks!!
Damnit!
Aren’t you pre-judging his guilt? He’s accused of some serious crimes, but he might be found not guilty. Or the accusers might be lying (q.v. Hamiltons, Duke case). So let’s hold off for the moment.
“They” don’t put anyone in a cage. Participation is voluntary. It isn’t gladiatorial combat.
As long as the fighters are properly educated on the risks involved (and for the record, the risk of brain injuries or paralysis is much lower in MMA than in boxing) why should you have a problem with it?
I can’t stand it - bores the hell out of me. But if two consenting adults want to fight each other in a controlled environment, under medical supervision, let them.
My guess is that because boxing results in frequent serious injuries and deaths, and MMA doesn’t. It’s a far safer sport, but heaven forfend dipshits like friedo and Boyo Jim learn anything about it before bashing it.
What’s forcible rape? I find the term rather distasteful.
What are some kinds of rape that aren’t considered “forcible”? Are those kinds considered okay?
Do we know what the evidence against Jackson is? I assume they’ve got something solid, since they’ve arrested him. But I’m remembering the recent case of Rikki Rockett, the former drummer of Poison, who was charged with rape and later exonerated. Apparently, the victim was raped by a totally different man, who was impersonating Rockett.
Statutory rape would be non-forceable rape. It’s still bad.
Forcible rape is when the act is committed through physical violence as opposed to coercion, intimidation or incapacitation. No, none of the other types of rape are okay either.
