MMA, for those who don’t want to google, is a mix of kick-boxing, wresting, etc. (mixed martial arts) where two men go into a “cage” (I believe octagonal?) with no helmets, only lightly padded fists, no shoes/boots–basically a pair of shorts and some light gloves–and try to either knock the other out, choke them out, or force them into submission (a “tap out” where they signal they’re done.) It can get bloody, and usually does, but it’s a sport that requires considerable skill, fitness, and strategy.
I think something like that was playing on one of the televisions where I worked last year, and I walked by and caught a glimpse of it.
Appalling. I wondered why their mothers weren’t pulling them off to their bedrooms by their ears, to stay and think about what they were doing, and to not come out until they were ready to apologize to one another and try to work out their differences like civilized human beings.
Oh damn. And unlike Jeremie Jackson, Rampage is a headliner. Was the UFC Heavyweight Champion until Forrest Griffin beat him not a week or two ago.
Good point–I’m really only familiar with UFC, because some friends of ours like to host pay-per-view parties for the UFC fights. There’s food, and socialization, some blood-sport, and everyone contributes to the cost of the fight, and has a good time. (I spend most of my time in the kitchen. :D)
Oh, and they wager pushups on the fights. The loser has to do his pushups (usually 50) in front of everyone.
Gotta love a guy who flees the scene of the crime in a truck with his picture on it.
“Jackson was arrested at gunpoint after shredding his left front tire on his custom Ford F250 pickup during a pursuit up Newport Boulevard. The vehicle features images of Jackson on the side along with the logo of Toyo Tires, another sponsor that reportedly gifted the truck to him.”
It wasn’t a stoppage, it was a unanimous decision, and it wasn’t really all that controversial. Griffin looked like the clear winner, and even Jackson agreed later that he “whooped my ass.”
“Clear winner”? Of round 2, sure, and maybe round 5, but Rampage won 1, 3, and 4. He should’ve won the fight, or at worst a draw if they gave round two 10-8 to Forrest. They need to stop using boxing judges to score a different sport.
I don’t get this at all. He explained his passion and connection to the sport. It was well written and there was plenty of pit worthy outrage. And low post count - so what?
I’ll take this newby post over link and a “fuck you” from a vet any day.
