Meh. At least he appeared in life to have adhered to the same morality he demanded of other people. He was an arrogant, pompous, self-righteous, judgemental ass who contributed absolutely nothing to the betterment of humankind, but he died without (or perhaps before) engaging in the very practices he so loudly condemned.
I had a thought: Perhaps one could say that, in spite of everything else, Jerry Falwell could not be called a hypocrite because he did, in fact, adhere to the moral code he espoused. I think he even forgave and prayed for people who publicly attacked him. How ironic that the man who was the worst of the right-wing religious reactionaries was also the most pure in ideology and practice.
I could be completely wrong about that, of course. There are no doubt Falwell scholars out there who know more than I do about the man, but I got the idea that he at least adhered to his own rigid, warped moral code.

You mean he appeared to adhere to the sexual part of the moral code he espoused?
Because other parts of that code, such as “religion should be in government,” “religious people are entitled to their beliefs,” and “love thy neighbor,” he very much did NOT practice when it came to people from those heathen religions.
But yeah…as far as is publically known…so far…which is admittedly not much…he didn’t have affairs.

I’m still dancin’ though. Serves him right for having Phelps picket him. The apple never falls far from the tree.

I’m actually looking forward to seeing what happens when the Phelps gang clashes with Falwell’s groupies.

Nooo, he’s outside looking in
with apologies to the Moody Blues
On a personal note, I’ll believe he is dead when I see a properly staked body.
You are going to look pretty foolish when he shows up 3 days from now.
Don’t you know he is right now negotiating with GOD in person for another 20 years. Let’s all hope that GOD says no again.
