Jerusalem Pride marchers pelted with piss and shit; three stabbed

Not to someone else. To themselves. In fact, by any objective standard the marchers were much better Israelis than the protestors. They pay their taxes, they serve in the army… which is more than you can say about that asshole with the knife.
Incidentally, there are a whole bunch of U.S. cities - the so-called “Bible Belt,” for instance - where a gay pride parade would have gone much worse. Or am I wrong? Is there a march planned in Virginia Beach?

My favorite was a relatively recent Newsweek article, which quoted an Israeli soldier making the following joke (very closely paraphrased):

Q: What do you call 100 Palestinians on a bus going over a cliff?

A: The solution.

I so desperately wanted to find that soldier and tell him the joke would be much funnier if he would change the answer to, “The Final Solution.”

It seems that people tend to forget the “unforgettable” lessons of history pretty quickly.

I think y’all can go fuck yourselves.

What, just because we used to be victims, we don’t have a right to bigots, homophobes and religious nutjobs? We can’t have our portion of assholes, just like every other nation on the face of this earth? We’re denied our God-given right to occasionally be jerks?

We have an existance apart from our history. Don’t apply different standards to us than you would to yourselves.

I’m not applying different standards. We are assholes over here too. We pit our country a lot too.

No, the fact that they embrace terror as a legitimate method of political expression and support genocide is the reason that Trans-Jordinians deserve to be driven from their homes and gunned down by attack helicopters. When they are ready to act like civilized people, then they can be treated like civilized people.

Sure, because burning down innocent people’s houses is sooooo civilized.
Look, both sides act exactly like assholes here and as long as the extremist on both sides control how decisions are made, the Palestinians and the Jews get exactly what they deserve.

Wow, it didn’t take long for this thread to go to ‘that place’, did it? For what it’s worth, the attacks on the Pride Parade are shameful and should be considered an abomination in any civilized nation.

Oh, and, Sly Frog? You’re acting like an idiot. Again. You should probably stop.

This one made me laugh, sorry…

Besides the fact that I’m in a strong disagreemetnt with you, i’m going to point out that the transjordanians don’t live in the occupied territories…
I’m assuming here, that you didn’t deliberatly use this word to imply that the palestinians don’t belong there and should be expelled.

Can’t we have other threads to debate the Israel-Palestine issue?

Hang on, there dave. You got a bit of spittle on your collar. Lemme get that for you.

Do you actually think we don’t apply this standard to our own countries? I’ve spent the last 12 years of my life arguing for queer rights in this country. And you know what the first right is? The right to survive – the right not to be injured or killed because you’re queer.

If you really believe that all of us are just sitting around saying, “Oh, look – another gay guy got lynched in Texas. I guess that’s okay. So long as it’s not Israel.” – I mean, if you believe that, that’s you’re completely divorced from reality.

Tell you what: Have a gay pride parade in Riyadh, or Cairo, or Tehran, or Amman, or Khartoum, and let me know how that works out for you.

Despite the efforts of some to use this event to draw a moral equivalence between Israel and its neighbors, the fact of the matter is that the people who did this in Israel were operating outside the law, and that the Israeli government explicitly protects the rights of homosexuals. Which is more than you can say for any other government in the region, as far as I know.

But everyone knows Israel is really the bad guy here, right?

Always Mr Stone. Always.

No need to say it would work out poorly ( at best ). Istanbul however did have their first in 2003. As in many respects Turkey is ahead of the curve, but still way behind Israel.

Absolutely agree. The state of Israel is not the bad guy in this, just a few Israeli citizens. As Alessan noted, there are wingnuts everywhere.

That aside, Weriddave that was unacceptably over the top and unworthy of you. No matter how repugnant the political beliefs of some/many of them may be, expressing support for gunning down civilians ain’t cool.

Bags of urine and feces? I admit that I’m no sage, but I can’t think of anywhere in the Talmud that says you can fling these things at anybody. You do get ‘And yer crapper shall be outside the perimeter of your camp, for things shall be less stinky this way and healthier too’.

Obviously, stabbing somebody who is marching by is right out. There’s that whole ‘thou shalt not commit murder’ thing.

I can understand their rejection of gays. But, the rage and pure hatred baffle me.

You do understand the difference between atrocities that happen to be committed by athiests and those that use religion as a justification right?

Not at all, but the assholes who did this are. Maybe we all could have parsed our words better. The pitting I believe, is against the stabber and the shit flingers, not the court or government in Israel. My words of disgust were against the flingers and stabber.

This is the kind of stuff I was responding to:

No comment necessary.

Pure Moral Equivalence.

Generalizing this to the entire nation…

Hey, let’s take the opportunity to bring up a wholly irrelevant anecdote showing that other Israelis are evil too!

After all, it was an Israeli court that insisted the parade ought to take place.

Weirddave was the one who brought the Palestinians up, not us.
