Man, for that much money, I’d expect the grill to go to the store, select the best steaks, come home, light itself, cook the food, and then serve it to me.
It had better bring me a beer, too.
How good can a grill be? Is a $5000 grill really any better at cooking a hot dog than a $500 grill?
Schumaker spent $22,000 (!) on alchoholic beverages on UT’s dime over his very, very brief term.
I ama UT student. I have exactly six hours for this fall, and then its all over.
The funny thing about this is that even though the University system is so broken its sick, you can still get a good, solid education here. I’m very proud of the History department, where I study.
I’m going to start a GD thread on how to fix the U, and how to get a good president.
Until this story broke, I was a little peeved that Shumaker left the University of Louisville. And as an alumnus and a life long resident of the city, I thought that he had done an excellent job during his tenure here. Now I wonder just how much it cost.
And, I tell ya, I do feel just a little bad for the guy (and I mean just a little tiny bit). Heck, he’s 60 and was planning on retiring soon (as a wealthy man, no doubt). Now his whole life is falling down around him.
Not that he didn’t make the bed he’s now lying in…
And, of course, he’ll get another job. It’s just that the college he’ll work at next won’t have a private plane, or a nationally known football program, or a football program at all, or a graduate school, or medical or dental or engineering program, but I’m guessing there will be lots of crayons and finger paints…
If he scammed us for this much, what do you think he’s gotten over his entire career? I really don’t think he needs another job.
The history department might be great, but I’ve had problems with other departments. Not enough classes are being offered. I know the Poli Sci department had to fight to get a new prof to teach some more constitution classes. Most of the teachers I know will add students as long as there are enough seats in the room. Really pisses me off that they bought all those new desks for the Humanities building that take up twice the room. Now they can barely fit in the allotted students.
BTW, any one else having problems with their financial aid coming through right now?
Mine seems ok - but I have an assistantship that provides a tuition waiver for this year and the Staffords that I have seem to be going the way they should.
A couple of my friends, though, have struggled to get the information they need to get their FA money on time.
(And I am SO not looking forward to full-contact parking next week. Or having to go to the bookstore Monday to buy my textbooks.)
I had something similar happen to me, only I discovered it upon transferring to UTK for architorture. Because of my scores in high school, both Tennessee Tech and Pellissippi State gave me advance placement credit for English 101. TTU to PSTCC, no problem. PSTCC to UTK, no way. So here I was, a senior by hours, taking freshman English. My instructor had graduated high school the same year I did. She quickly realized I didn’t need the class and she thought it was just insane that I could get credit at these other schools, but not here. Silly.
UTK has a serious image problem right now, with the dean of Architecture (my former dean) being asked to step down (strange, strange situation which I think was unjustified  ), and now the uncovering of the President’s idiocy, all within weeks of each other. :dubious: I’m sorry for those of you who are having to finish up under these circumstances.
Yeah, that business with the dean is totally bizarre. She’s apparently highly respected by everyone and is suddenly told that she can’t do her job? Methinks there’s a lot more to the story than we’re being told.
