Jesus - REALLY Vancouver? It's a fucking hockey game.

Thumbs down to the rioting Vancover “fans”. Thumbs up to the OP for the linked article from which I learned the history of “getting read the riot act.”

No, it’s not the fucking photographic evidence that bothers me. It’s the fact that it happened in the first place, and when these losers do see a reporter with a camera, they stand there mugging for the TV. It’s the attitude that is fucking disgusting, and now it’s world wide news. The idiots might live in Vancouver or its suburbs, but they do not represent the population of Vancouver.

Apparently, there is (or will be) a web site that will “collect” all the photos and video of the riot.

It seems that a lot of people on the scene took photos and video of the events, and posted them on YouTube and such. Such photos and video often displayed the photographers’ friends on the rampage; and then, posing in front of what they had destroyed. Later (and presumably much more sober), the posters began taking them down–likely due to realizing that their friends could be identified for later arrest. This site is trying to collect all this media before it disappears, in an effort to aid police in finding the perpetrators.

The site was swamped today, and as I understand things, is in the process of being moved to a better server. But if I read the Tweets of owner Dave Teixeira correctly, it should be back online soon. When it does return, it will be at:

http://canucksriot2011.com/

That’s the kind of thing we do in Pittsburgh when the Steelers WIN.

Seriously, my condolences to Vancouver fans (I was rooting for the Canucks), and fuck the rioting assholes. I’m sure you made your team proud!

Except in the parts of the US that are a frozen wasteland for 9 months of the year.

HOCKEY; In the ‘State of Hockey,’

And to show you how seriously we take our hockey here in this part of the USA, we didn’t just riot over LOSING some stupid pro game. We rioted after WINNING the NCAA National Championship. :smack:

Henrik Sedin has come out and said how freakin’ idiotic these “fans” were being. That’s not the exact quote, but a sentiment that I completely and wholeheartedly agree with. The freakin’ captain of the Canucks thinks his “fans” were shameful idiots!!! Not a surprise, but how many of them will actually take it to heart?

The Queen didn’t whip them out?

From one of my Vancouver friend’s facebook feeds:

There was a whole lot of stupid going on there last night.

I haven’t heard anything more about the man that fell off the overpass - I hope he’s doing ok.

Today’s Globe and Mail has an interesting report on how a few brave Vancouverites stood up to the rioters: “Facing Down Vancouver’s Rioters: ‘This Is My Neighbourhood’.”

On the same page is a link to a video of a woman standing up to the rioters. (Potentially NSFW, due to language.)

Well, we will never see such rioting here in Toronto.*

*Admittedly, because the Leafs will never come damned near to winning the Cup. Ah, well.

Well, he was actually a lot classier.

(I was only somewhat exaggerating about Steelers fans, though. Back in 2009, there were burning couches, trash can fires, and some looting, IIRC. It was somewhat better after the Pens won that year, but only because the police were better prepared)

Stupid fans.

Well then, it’s OK for* you*.

To be fair, they were Canadians after all.

I know you’re joking, but here’s what i posted last night in the Stanley Cup thread.

There’s very little information right now on the injury and arrests, but I hope Mayor Robertson will stay true to his words that the instigators will be held accountable. I’m most curious about the guy who fell (or jumped) off the Georgia Viaduct. No reports so far on whether he was a Bruins fan or just another Vancouver idiot who jumped because he couldn’t take the loss.

The most laughable part (not that there’s much humour in this whole stupid situation) was that they broke windows of the Chapters (Canadian bookstore chain) but no looting in the actual store. Of course, these idiots wouldn’t know what to do with a book other than to burn it in a bonfire.

Found an interesting Facebook page: Vancouver Riot Pics: Post Your Photos.

Love the screen capture of a Facebook page where the poster writes:

And the first comment to this post?

Hope they get this guy, who seems to be so proud of himself.

Another screen capture shows a post: “whats up vancity time to fucking roll.” Then, when a comment points out that there are children in the area, he replies, “fuck the little kids fuck the police let tear down vancity.”

It seems that at least some people headed to the area with the intent to cause trouble no matter what the outcome of the game was.

People went down there with molotov cocktails and axes. So yup, they were ready to riot no matter the outcome. They’re not just idiots, I’m sick of calling them idiots. They’re assholes hell bent on destruction.

Not that rioting ever makes sense.

I could kind of (not really but you get my point) get the outrage if it was a close game and Boston won it in overtime thanks to a bad call from the refs.

But this game? Jebus Canucks, you got your asses handed to you.

This is all so sad.

So I just happen to be watching Part 5 of Hockey: A People’s History when low and behold it covers the ‘Richard Riot’ from 1955 in Montreal. So maybe this hockey fan is going to have to go easy on the soccer fans. Seems this sort of thing has been going on for ages. :frowning:

There’s been a mail strike for a while now, already. I have a WoW bud who lives in Canada who’s been talking about it, and this might just be an extension of the strike, having nothing to do with the riot.
