JFK: Reloaded- a short review of a weird... game, I guess.

Just FYI you can blow up the WTC and the Pentagon in Command and Conquer Red Alert 2. I think the WTC is Soviet mission 2 (you have to blow up or capture a tech centre that is between the WTC towers) and the Pentagon mission is 4 or 5. You don’t get to use jumbo jets to do it though. I think RA2 was put out in 2000. Creepy!

After trying to duplicate Oswald’s marksmanship, I became addicted to trying to cause a car wreck that involved as many cars as possible. After killing the driver of the presidential limousine (which stopped), I then shot the driver of the last car in the motorcade (a grey one, I think). This causes it to accelerate at a high rate of speed into the next car, resulting in a chain reaction that disabled all the cars.

The most amazing sight was when the secret service car behind the presidential limousine was rear-ended, one of the agents was ejected with such force that he flew up in the air, right past the sixth-floor window of the Book Depository, and landed on the roof of the building. I was able to watch this amazing feat over and over from several angles. I wish there was a way to save a game, I would like to have kept that one.

This is too much fun.

Anybody got a link to the download? My search-fu isn’t finding it…

The wikipedia entry linked to in the OP links to a few download sites.

You can download it here

I’ve come close. I whacked the limo driver and hit the governor’s wife with one shot, another shot killed the agent in the front seat and the governor. I then hit and wounded JFK (thought I’d killed him, otherwise I’d have kept pumping rounds into him), then I started picking off various members of the motorcade. One of the things that I discovered (which is really annoying) is that you can kill some of the agents on the running boards of the second car, but they won’t fall down! I kept pumping rounds into the bastards, waiting for them to fall over, but they didn’t, it was only when it was running the review that I discovered I’d killed them with my first shot. It seems pretty easy to hit multiple targets with single rounds. I think that my best multiple hit shot went through 5 people. I managed to hit JFK in the head once (and that was my first shot that round). For some reason, my shots tended to hit Jackie O. and the governor’s wife in the tits a lot. The bullet cam view is awesome! I have a feeling I’m going to be wasting a lot of time playing this thing. (Did I mention I used to have a dog named Oswald?)

Another interesting effect: if you can cause a convertible to go out of control and crash into the fountain/pool, ejected bodies will float around in the water.

The first time I got JFK in the head was pretty startling (brains hanging out, and all) but from then on I seem to be incapable of firing an injuring first shot for him whilst not also killing the limo driver or agent.

The most amusing (god, that’s macabre) one was when I injured the driver, causing the car to drive slowly up the embankment on the left of the bridge, while all the other cars sped off along the road, apparently leaving the President to his fate.

If JFK is hit by a bus, he will fly over 200 feet in the air.

I’ve found that if you set the motorcade to chaotic, the game is loads more fun. I just wish that it didn’t have the time limit on it. Nothing pisses me off than managing to get almost the whole motorcade stopped, and not be able to shoot everybody on screen. The highest number of shots I’ve managed to off is 22. I still down see how Oswald did it, what with processor lag, tracking errors, etc.

One thing that’s just uber morbidly entertaining about the game is the rather undignified deaths that you can put folks through. I whacked the driver of the limo, he sped up, the car smacked into a couple of things, and when it came to a halt, Jackie was face down on the pavement, with her legs up against the door, spread wide. Yeah, I pumped a couple of rounds into her hoochie, I jsut couldn’t help myself. Somehow I managed to cause a pile up where Lady Bird got thrown out of the car. I didn’t realize it, until I saw her legs sticking out from underneath a car that was running over her. Best shot I’ve ever done is when I shot the .38 out of an officer’s hand.

I’d like to take the buses out, since I really can’t stand Valenti, but I haven’t been able to do that yet.

I have a new game; knock off John Conally’s and Jackie’s hats without killing them. You have to get a ricochet off the car upwards into hat but not head.

Much easier if you kill the driver first.

Naw, I’ve knocked Jackie’s hat off lots of times just by aiming at the top edge. Same with the helmets of the motorcycle cops; you can knock them off without killing them. Their shades fly off if you hit them in the head, so that is my next goal; knock off their shades without killing them.

Have you noticed Connolly holds on to his hat even if he is ejected from the car?

Okay, try this one. I don’t know how, but after I’d shot the drivers and was just plugging away at people sitting in their cars, I shot a guys sunglasses off. I think it was one of the passenger’s in LBJ’s car, but I fired and saw a little black thing fly up in the air. Upon slow-mo inspection, it was indeed the guy’s shades.

Anybody else notice that if you shoot JFK Jackie moves over to check him out, but if you hit Jackie, JFK continues to smile and wave at the crowds? Another thing that’s a bit odd, is you can occassionally cause one of the convertables in the motorcade to wind up on it’s side, and the occupants will just calmly sit there hanging sideways, waiting for you to pick them off.

You can also shoot the globes out on the street lamps. I really wish that you could choose different locations to shoot from, because in looking at the replay from the grassy knoll area, I think you’d have a harder time hitting JFK from there than from the Book Depository.

Yeah, some of those cars are damned near indestructible. The passengers won’t get ejected from the convertibles, and they can be broadsided by a bus, and they still straighten out and drive away. The only way to slow them down is to kill the driver.

I have a new record; three cars shiny side down. Beat that!

I didn’t count, but I’ve managed to get most of the motorcade on it’s roof once. No idea how I did it. The other thing I’ve noticed that until you hit someone, the motorcade’s speed remains about the same.

Is it possible to shoot out the tires? I tried a few times, but I couldn’t tell if it’s not possible or i’m just a really bad shot.

I’ve tried that, I think they must be milspec tires, with the unobtanium belts.

Thanks for the link. Grabbed the file yesterday, prolly ran a thousand simulations since then.

I’ll admit that playing this simulation has changed my thinking on the assassination just a bit. Oswald’s alleged shots are not nearly as difficult as I thought they’d be. The ranges are much shorter than i expected. I can consistently take out JFK after the left turn on Elm Street. Haven’t had much luck duplicating the findings of the Warren Commission. My best score in that regard is 479. I usually score the kill on the second shot, sometimes with the first…and oddly enough, when I get the second shot kill, it’s often a ricochet off the trunk of the limo that does the deed.

What I really don’t understand here is why Oswald/whoever would have waited so long to open fire. Plenty of opportunity after the initial right turn, while the motorcade is coming straight at the shooter, or passing direectly underneath the window, and frankly, an easier shot in my opinion.

I still don’t believe the fatal shot came from the window. From watching the Zapruder film, I’m convinced the fatal shot had to come from the right/front, unless Dallas has a zoning variance to the known laws of physics. Whoever fired the fatal shot does not necessarily have to be working as part of any conspiracy with Oswald or anyone else. It could have been another “lone gunman”. Could have been an elaborate conspiracy. Doubt we’ll ever know.

And yes, I have repeatedly indulged in just general mayhem with this simulation. With a little luck here and there, I can get the total body count over 30–counting expected fatalities from car wrecks and people getting run over. I have fired as many as 22 shots in the short time alloted, and recorded as many as 11 kills just from the reported results of those shots. If I can manage to take out the drivers of the limo, the car immediately behind it, and then the VP’s car, and get all three to crash with passenger ejections, massive carnage ensues as the following vehicles start chain reaction collisions, run over agents and/or motorcycle cops, etc. I tried taking out the cop that sprints towards the Depository building in hopes of increasing maximum trigger time, but that doesn;t seem to have much effect.
