Jim Parsons is out (and in the New York Times, no less)

Just as long as we stay out of the theater, I think we all can get along.

Preach it, brother!

(Note: the following is meant to be a generalization, not pointing fingers at anyone in this thread.)

Am I the only one who’s a little rubbed the wrong way with some folks’ rolling of eyes on topics like this? Without specific context (e.g. the fact, IIRC in this case, the subject of this thread has publicly gone out with a guy to events), it sounds an awful lot to me like “look at him; he doesn’t look/act/dress like a “normal” masculine guy, so duh, of course he’s gay.”

(And for that matter, the way some people say that not finding and marrying a woman before age X MUST be a sign of homosexuality makes me wonder if it’s a factor behind the divorce rate…)

I have seen this mentioned before here on SDMB, but is it really certain that Anderson Cooper is actually gay?

I only know him from his occasional 60 Minutes piece, (I guess he now has his own news show?) but although I have NO gaydar so to speak of, he is someone I would never have pegged as gay.

Growing up with a super rich, famous Mom could certainly make someone intensely private about their personal life, is it possible he is just really introverted with any romantic relationships (with women) that he is in?

Also, as a journalist, while discretion is important, it’s an incredibly liberal profession, so if he is gay I can’t imagine it would damage his career or his personal image.

It’s not that someone doesn’t behave in a masculine manner. It’s that they behave in a manner that has a higher correlation with gay than straight people.

Little things can be tells, like never talking about your girlfriend, never being seen in public liking girls, always being around a male roommate, etc. None of these show a lack of masculinity, just a desire not to claim to be straight.

My sister knows his boyfriend!!!

Here you go.

No points for guessing which video that is.

It probably doesn’t have anything to do with straightness being the default orientation or anything like that.

So I’m “de fault”? You mean there’s something wrong with me?

But he did already come out. At least once before and probably more than that.

Hear hear!! No matter how many enraged glares I get from men in Sheridan Square, I will continue to proudly wear my t shirt that reads, " My Life Partner Has A Vagina "

Well, as long as you two don’t shove your heterosexuality in my face with PDAs and getting married. . …

Count me as one who never thought that Parsons was “in.” In fact, I don’t believe I ever gave his personal life any consideration at all before today, and I am quite certain this will again be of no interest to me before my morning coffee break.

And if you read my next post you’ll see that it was a leading question.

I was shocked (Shocked!) to discover that Jim Parsons is 39 years old.

Who, in the pictures I’ve seen, is really cute.

And he released this picture of him and his dogspreviously. That’s really on par with a gay sex tape as far as leaving no room for plausible deniability. (Hell, I’m 100% gay and would never put a ribbon on my dog even if he’d let me.)

Yes, this was the tip-off for me - the acknowledged long-term same-sex partner that’s usually by his side. This is a common indicator of homosexuality, and nearly always pings my gaydar.

Me too. When I saw that he was gay it barely registered. When I saw that he was 39 I thought, I’ll never look at his character the same again. Maybe I’m an age-aphobe.

As it should turn out, Johnny Galecki is 37. As is Sarah Gilbert. The rest are around 31 except for Kaley Cuoco who is only 26.

Now I feel old.

Johnny Galecki has been the subject of gay rumors, perhaps because he’s unmarried and has played so many gay characters on stage and screen, but in fact what he kept closeted was that he was involved with Kaley Cuoco until recently. (Galecki became a sort of sweetheart to Gay-merica for a while when he said he never corrected the gay rumors because he understood why some people made the assumption and because, unlike certain celebs who have sued over them, he never considered being thought of as gay an insult.)
