I have lived my entire life in Lake Orion, Michigan. Some of you may know that Jimmy Hoffa kept a ’ summer home ’ on a small lake in the city. I have found that his summer home was located on a small lake about 5 minutes from my residence, called ’ Square Lake '. There are photos of Hoffa at the home at these to links:
My question is this… does anyone know the address of the summer home on Square Lake? I have looked and looked and I cannot find an exact address for it. I think it would be great to see if it is still standing or not, or if it has been changed since I live right by Square Lake.
Just giving a quick look at random internet comments… Most claim the house was on Big Square Lake, but a few say Little Square Lake, and one says off of Joselyn Rd.
The roof line on the house is fairly distinct. Is the Square Lake Google Maps identifies big or little?
I found one site where someone said it was on West Buell Road, north side, just east of Adams Road. That would put it somewhere arouind 2655 W. Buell Rd
In the mid 50’s as a teenager i chummed with young jimmy one summer and dated Barbra once. The house they had then was on Lake Orion with a new chris craft in the boat house. Never realized who it was until Hoffa’s disappearence.
Common agreement in the 70s was that the Hoffa house was on Joslyn. I don’t know the exact address. Little Square Lake is closer to Joslyn than Big Square Lake is. On the other hand, just south of the little cemetery next to the new library is closer to my memory of where the house was. (Of course, everyone “knew” where his house was in the 70s and 80s, but I never saw a big sign saying “Jimmy lived here!” so he might, indeed, have lived on Lake Orion, itself. Or he might have lived on Lake Orion at one time and then moved.)
The Buell Rd address is clearly wrong–wrong side of town by several miles–although his family may have moved to Buell in the last thirty years, or so.
According to a couple of sources, the address is 1614 Ray Ct, Lake Orion, MI. It’s off of Allendale Rd, on the SW shore of Square Lake. There’s a youtube post called “Finding Jimmy Hoffa, his Lake Orion House” that shows the state of the home in late 2015, and how to get there. Appeared to be a little run down, not well maintained. But I can see that it could’ve been really nice in the '70s.
