Job Interview Follow Up Question

I’m looking for a part time job for the summer. I applied and was interviewed at a brand new restaurant. It’s not even opened yet. The interview was June 6th. It seemed to go well. I had a great rapport with the interviewer and felt confident about how it went. I was told that I should hear back from the general manager about a potential 2nd interview by this past Wednesday. If he didn’t call me the interviewer suggested that I call in myself.

Wednesday came and went without a call. So I made a follow up call. Got voice mail and left a message. Still no response.

So now what? Should I call back a second time? I don’t want to sound desperate and ruin what little chance I have. But I really wanted this job.

I have a feeling that my limited availability did me in. I have another job in the mornings already, so I can only wait tables a few nights a week.

I don’t think making another call is going to ruin your chance–but I’m not an expert on the subject. Since the restaurant hasn’t opened yet the manager is busy with all kinds of things–and perhaps the opening is delayed.

My advice is gleaned from Ask A Manager, a fantastic blog full of sensible career advice.

Let it go. If they wanted to hire you, you would have heard about it by now. Keep applying for other jobs, and don’t waste any more emotional energy on this one. You did the right thing by following up once, but sadly, it’s all to common nowadays to just never respond to candidates who didn’t get hired. I hate it, it’s so rude, but there’s nothing we as jobseekers can do about it.
