Joe Strummer is dead :(

Damn, this was news to me. I spent the last week listening to Story of the Clash over and over for some reason. This totally sucks.

Saw The Clash twice, and got Joe’s autograph. His is the only autograph I have. I’ll have to listen to his whole discography today. Even Cut the Crap.

I already posted on the Cafe Society thread, but I figured I would express my sadness here as well. The Clash are one of my all time favorite bands, and definitely one of the most influential bands ever.

The radio stations here don’t seem to be playing any Clash today, but I grabbed my Clash on Broadway disks and London Calling before heading to work.

RIP Joe :frowning:

Well, damn. Not a good way to start the week. RIP, Joe. You will most definitely be missed.

:frowning:

I love the Clash. The Story of the Clash has always been in my collection of driving cd’s. There was only one problem with them that I could tell. The music always made me want to drive faster than hell.

I think I’m gonna have to get in my car and put on Clampdown followed by Train in vain and see if I can get another speeding ticket for old times sake.

RIP Joe, you fucking rocked.

Aw, crap. That sucks. 50?

Damnit.

Anxiously awaiting London Calling’s entry into his thread. :frowning:

That news officially made this my most unhappy day this year. And I was hit by a car in October.
R.I.P., Joe. What a loss.

As my brother said to me when I showed him the news link in the OP: “Oh man… this is huge. He died?”

F_X

I was appalled… I listen to my local “college radio” station in the car, (it’s actually gone way commercial and is no longer really college radio) for about three hours total yesterday and not ONCE did I hear them mention his death. I mean, come on!

Grr.

I had to turn to the local noontime news yesterday to find out what happened - nothing on MTV, of course, 'cause why would the Music Television channel bother to report the untimely death of the guy who led The f__king Clash!

Sad, sad, sad. :frowning:

I love the Clash. Quite possibly the greatest rock band ever.

RIP Joe Strummer

Yeah, exactly–I turned on MTV last night too, thinking “Of COURSE they’ll have some kind of retrospective or whatever!”

Not a word. Pfft.

“The Clash” was the first album I ever bought. Rest in peace, Joe.

Wow, I was so sad when I heard this yesterday. RIP, Joe.

By the way, I’m incredibly jealous of those of you who posted that their entire office is sad. Where do you work, and how do I get a job there?

Morgainelf: I work for a small ISP. We’re real small, like 10 people total, so we’re of a like mind.

I saw Joe Strummer down in San Juan Capistrano when he was playing with The Pogues. I saw him at The Wiltern after Shane had basically been booted. (As good as Strummer was, The Pogues just weren’t The Pogues without Shane.) Driving through Oregon on our trip from just south of the Canadian border to L.A., my friend and I heard a tribute to Joe Strummer, The Clash, and punk on NPR. We came into it late, though; we were listening to the rather tenuous signal in the mountains of southern Oregon when we realized that Joe Strummer had died. Damn, what a shocker! They didn’t say what happened, so it was after noon today that I found out that it was “an apparent heart attack” from Francesca’s link.

Sid Vicious back in 1979. Peter Ivers. Joey and Dee Dee Ramone. That woman from The Waitresses. Wendy O. Williams. Kirsty MacColl.

It’s depressing. :frowning:
