At least the headline for the story of his death didn’t read: “John McAfee: Uninstalled”
I still use McAfee anti-virus and haven’t got hit yet. Makes me wonder what other products I use in my everyday life that were invented by unhinged madmen.
He left the company in the 90s. He may not have been an unhinged madman, at that time. Apparently he used a lot of drugs in the interim, and that can unbalance people.
I have no problems believing he’d Tweet that KNOWING he was planning on suicide, just for the lols
A man who – at least eventually – saw threats everywhere. He was born to antivirus software development.
RIP, John. I used to dream about a life with millions, pissed away on hookers and blow. You took the shine off of that dream just a bit.
I can’t read that without thinking of the pilot in Airplane! “Joey…have you ever been…in a Turkish prison?”
Your computer doesn’t have enough performance left over from running McAfee to run a virus.
My father, in the early 90’s when there was no internet to check that McAfee was a real person, told me he wasn’t sure if McAfee was a real person or a pun for “make a fee”.
The prison where he was has several “modules” with different levels of security. He was in the lowest-security modules (“D buildings”); these minimal security modules comprise 14 3-floor buildings, each building hosting 72 prisoners that have some privileges. Also, he was not under suicide watch or anything.
I seem to remember that he actually tweeted something like “compared to the jails in the US, this is a Hilton hotel.”
