It doesn’t surprise me that the Duggars are working on a one-hour television special to talk about the sex scandal. The question I have is, what network’s gonna pick it up? They are done with TLC, right?
He doesn’t have an addiction. He’s just an old fashioned, cheating on his spouse, married too young, not very bright, has too many kids with someone he barely knows, overly sexist, uneducated, far too religious, grade A jackass.
I agree. The problem is that too many people believe that all that can be forgiven as long as you do your penance and come back to JESUS!
He could be argued to be an addict if this is something he’s done compulsively, experienced craving, continued doing despite harm, or at least 2-3 of the 11 criteria under DSM-V (see here for opioids, though the same basic problems underlie most addiction) I’ve been following the Josh Duggar story since the original story broke and, growing up evangelical (as in everyone not in our church network was destined for Hell), I just have to say: Lavender nailed it on the head. I can almost feel bad for him, except most of us who grow up in whack-a-doo religious groups don’t molest our sisters or cheat on our spouses (I admittedly don’t have one, and if I did it would piss off my former churchgoers since I’m into guys anyways, so I guess grain of salt on my opinion?).
They’ll be a ratings windfall now. They’ll be able to auction themselves off to the highest bidder. Josh is turning into a gold mine for them.
The right producer could milk a three-part series out of this. “Next week: The wanton hussies of Ashley Madison reveal everything. You’ll be shocked!”. Nothing’s too sacreligious for Jesus where money is concerned.
I can’t even imagine how fucking pissed JimBob is about all of this. They had it made with TLC. Every one of them that appeared on the show got paid, TLC paid for their trips, and they even paid to finish their 8,000 SQ FT house.
Because of the show they were paid handsomely for speaking engagements, those are gone too.
Are all their speaking engagements gone? I would think some of them would be, but that there are still some diehard fans. And that the Duggars could spin things about “fighting the evils of the world” because it’s really Satan and modern life that causes temptation and that’s why you have to stay distant from it.
They’ve signed poor Josh up for 6 months of residential treatment at the super-fundie rehab center. He’ll go 45 days with no contact from the outside at all - after that, he can have 1 phone call per week. When his brainwashing is complete, he’ll be up to four phone calls per week. He’ll live in a dorm with a roommate, whose job it will be to tattle on him if he should even ATTEMPT to talk to a female during those six months. Non-optional church services during the week, and two services on Sundays.
The rest of his time will be spent on work duties, for which the rehab center will get paid. Apparently that’s how they get a lot of their funding. Though the Duggars still have to cough up $7500 for the six month treatment program. So it looks like plenty of hard labor, construction work, etc. for Josh.
And um, no discussing porn or sexual addiction, with the other inmates or with the counselors. WTF - how is this considered helpful? A rehab program where you’re not allowed to get counseling on the problem that got you there? There are NO medical professionals of any kind at this facility.
If the brainwashing is a success, then they might even hire him as a counselor! Because most of them are former inmates.
This is all kinds of fucked up. I can’t believe it… but I’m actually feeling sympathy for Josh here. I think he’s a disgusting little worm, but this… this is just not good for any human, I’m sorry.
I absolutely agree on both counts. He’s damaged already; a program like this is likely to break even a healthy individual. Absolutely abhorrent.
I think that’s the whole idea.
