Let’s meet the principals:
21-year old Bowdoin College student Alex Cornell du Houx is a marine and will be deployed to Iraq for 10-months. Not unusual at all, really, du Houx is in fact also development director for the College Democrats of America and as co-president of the Maine College Democrats and not a particular fan of George Bus.
Daniel Schuberth is leader of the Bowdoin College Republicans and the College Republicans National Secretary. he is not in the military and is not serving. Nonetheless he feels compelled to give this opinion:
At least Mr. Schuberth did not add, “And what is with that name, sounds kinda, y’know, Frenchy, and we know whatthey are like, with all their surrendering and us saving their butts and stuff.”
I personally question Mr. Schuberth’s motivation and logic, after all he is certainly a firm supporter of the President and his war, yet he isn’t going over there to fight. Huh? Certainly if it is illogical to go fight when yo are a raving mad radical Democrat then the corollary must be it is illogical to not fight when you are a Republican.
I do not applaud Mr. Schuberth for his inacation, just as I do not applaud any other whiny stay-at-home war supporter who are unwilling to take up arms in defense of our country. I find it troubling, however, that one of the most vocal proponents of our President, our country and our mission in Iraq has chosen not to fight for a cause he claims is correct. Mr. Schuberth’s rhetoric for the war on terror places him in agreement with the most radical fringes of the Republican Party, and I am left to question his logic and motivation.
