Story

A 16-year-old Moroccan girl has committed suicide after a judge ordered her to marry her rapist, according to Moroccan media reports.

Last year Amina’s parents filed charges against their daughter’s rapist, a man 10 years older than her but it was only recently that a judge in the northern city of Tangier decided that instead of punishing him, the two must be married.

The court’s decision to forcibly marry Amina to her rapist was supposed to “resolve” the damage of sexual violation against her, but it led to more suffering in the unwelcoming home of her rapist/husband’s family.

Traumatized by the painful experience of rape, Amina decided to end her life by consuming rat poison in the house of her husband’s family, according to the Moroccan daily al-Massae.

Fuck this judge. Fuck the Moroccan government for allowing this barbarity. Words fail me, I’m just sick to my stomach.

What an unbelievably horrific thing for this girl to go through. I hope somebody figures out to forcibly remove that cretin’s penis. Too bad she couldn’t do that instead of opting out completely. At least take him out first.

How else to empower women in countries like these, besides handing them all the guns and ammo they could handle? Obviously that wouldn’t work, but I wish it could.

After all, the acronym MENA, for “Middle East and North Africa”, is pretty generally recognized as referring to a particular geographical/economic/cultural area.

In Moses’s version, the girl’s father can demand the 50 shekels and then refuse to let the despoiler have her. And that’s following a seduction.

If she was raped, her family could have him stoned (though this provision was dropped over 2000 years ago, I believe).

So don’t blame Moses for this, OK?
