Judge My Book From Its Cover!

I hope it’s kosher to show you the cover for my next book, but if it’s not, the Mods can go ahead and delete this without fear of my moping about it . . .

Anyway, the book won’t be out for months. But I am so happy with the cover design that I wanted to show it to y’all—for a university press, they have a pretty snappy design department!

Well, I’m wolf whistling.

“Well, I’m wolf whistling.”

—Ooooo, I musta accidentally posted the author’s photo, then . . .

That cover is fantastic! I know nothing (zippo, zero, nadda) about the golden age of film (or about the silver, bronze or tinfoil age for that matter) but that is a darn fine looking book you got there, lady!

Ooo, very classy.

Kay’s sister, Kim, and I wanted to call the book, “Oh, Kay!” But the publisher nixed that (and Ukulele Ike, I may add, called it the most cringingly awful book title he’d ever heard). So, while I am not crazy about the current title, I DID choose the photos for the front and back jacket.

Wow! Nice, neat clean lines… Good choice of pic also.

[sub](peers around carefully Who was Key Kendall? I assume from the style used on the cover, she was from the 50’s? At least, that’s what first comes to mind…)[/sub]

<< C is for Cookie, that’s good enough for me! >>

Looks good EVE. Lemme know when the book comes out.

An excellent choice of fonts.

Gawjimous. Of course I know not the slightest thing about the art of bookcovers, but that one would certainly pique my curiosity.

Nice!

Not knowing a thing about the Golden Age of Film, I’m already tempted to buy it for my wife (I’ll read it when she’s done… ).

Aw, I was hoping for the title “Oh, Kay! D’oh, Kay!”

You might not like the title, Eve, but the wording encourages someone who might otherwise pass it by to pick it up and take a look. I’d wonder who this lady was and why her life was brief and madcap.

The cover looks good, so the book is sure to be fantasitc. One question Eve, why are your books so expensive? I saw one that was going for $88 used!

Adam—Gee, Kay will only be $24 (of course, it’s pretty short—I can’t WRITE those 500-page books!). Anna Held was $27.50 . . . Which book did you see going for 88 bucks? Geez, I should set up a table outside the subway . . .

Nightsong—Kay Kendall was essentially Britain’s Carole Lombard, right down to the celebrity marriage and early death (Nightsong: “Who’s Carole Lombard?”).

Very nice, Eve. Looks great. And I’m sure the content will just as good as the cover. Good luck with this one, too. This is your third book, right?

Hot ziggety spit!

That’s a great photo, great choice of font, and great layout and design.

No wonder you’re pleased with it.

Needless to say, the book content is undoubtedly of the highest caliber.

Congratulations, Eve.

As always, Eve is far too demure to discuss her publications, so I’ll point out for her that this will be her fifth book. Her previous works are Platinum Girl: The Life and Legends of Jean Harlow, Vamp: The Rise and Fall of Theda Bara, Anna Held and the Birth of Ziegfeld’s Broadway, and Golden Images: 41 Essays on Silent Film Stars.

I was about to say … except for the fact that you have better cheeks, you look a LOT like her…

Which, of course, can’t be a bad thing:)

Nice looking book. Very classy. I’ve been in medical publishing for years. I’ve seen book covers with teeth, vaginas, goats, horses, and nothing we published looked as elegant as what you have there. Congratulations!
