Damnit, the courts shouldn’t engage in blatant election interference like this. Yes, this situation is unprecedented. That’s why it’s even more important to get it dealt with before the election.
It may actually be a good omen regarding the sentence. If Merchan were just going to give him a slap on the wrist he could have done it on Sept. 18th. The fact that he is delaying may indicate that he has a stronger sentence in mind.
The extent to which Trump faces justice for his crimes has always boiled down to what happens in November. There is no way that the Supreme court is going to let the New York department of corrections decide where the sitting president can or can’t go. By waiting until after the election Merchan can make sure that whatever sentence he ends up passing down will be able to stand.
I don’t think he’s capable of this.
Right. He doesn’t wonder, but he does think he’s a wonder.
This is a good point.
I just think of the future where Trump has lost a second election in a row, is sentenced to jail time, and is finally facing a couple of federal trials plus a trial in Georgia, once they get the “immunity” bullshit sorted out.
None of that is guaranteed of course, but it’s very possible, and I think it would destroy MAGA.
The constant delays are indeed irritating but it’s pleasant to imagine Donnie locked away during the critical period when the Pubbies will be fighting to overturn the election results.
Of course, the reality is more likely that yet another sentencing delay will occur just before Nov. 26.
Six days to go. One day shy of a week after my birthday. I really would like something extra to celebrate this month.
Yep. The slime shall get away with exactly zero consequences yet again. From BBC:
A judge has ordered that Donald Trump will be sentenced on 10 January in his hush-money case in New York - less than two weeks before he is set to be sworn in as president.
New York Justice Juan Merchan signalled he would not sentence Trump to jail time, probation or a fine, and instead give him a “conditional discharge”, and wrote in his order that the president-elect could appear in person or virtually for the hearing.
Anyone else, anyone at all, who got convicted of even one felony, let alone 34, would be suffering life-long consequences. This traitor gets rewarded by the very country he is destroying.
American democracy didn’t make it to 248 years.
Damn it.
I came here to say “Fuck July 13”. Every fucking year they’ll be showing Trumps assassination attempt on the news.
And how else do you expect people to improve their skills?
“I miss Trump.”
“Next time make sure to factor in the windspeed.”
