Just adopted a new doggo

We’d been talking about it for a few months, and applied for one we didn’t get (probably a good thing, because we were away a lot when both my parents passed in a two week period). Her name is Shea, and she’s snoring a few feet away while I have a cat on my shoulder. It’s hard to say what breed she is; best guess is a lab/shepherd mix of some kind. Her ears defy gravity; I’ve never seen a dog with stand-up ears that big. Ms. P speculates that she’s part rabbit. She’s already made friends with the more skittish of our two cats. The other hissed a lot at first, but she’s not doing it today. The organization we adopted her from has known her since she was a pup. Her original owner had family issues that led to her being surrendered. She’d been fostered for a few months, and the couple who were keeping her talked with us for a long time, telling us what we needed to watch for (she has to be introduced to new dogs slowly, for instance, and can be anxious.

Congratulations.

Photos?

How exciting! Is this your first dog you’ve ever owned? It’s great that the foster discussed everything with you so you know what to expect, and or what to look out for. When I adopted my first dog many years ago from a shelter, they told me all about the breed’s behaviors (he was a mix of two herding breeds), so I knew what I was getting myself into. He sure was a great dog. I hope you have many great years with yours.

Congrats!

We will need photos by the end of the day.

mmm

I’ll need to get a Pinterest account set up first. I’ll get around to it sometime.

She our third dog, so we have plenty of experience. I always had dogs as a kid, including one who was around from the time I was in elementary school until I’d graduated from college. Our last dog was an Australian Cattle dog mix (with beagle as the other half), and she could herd cats if they ran outside.

Easier–just go to Imgbb or Imgur, drag/drop your pics, upload, get the URL of the pic and drop it into a post here. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy.

These should work.

Cutie!. Those ears look a little Doberman influenced. Congrats!

A very fine-looking pup, indeed! Congrats!

And yes, those are magnificent ears! She can probably hear a pin drop a mile away! :grinning:

I thought about that, but dobermans have floppy ears when they aren’t clipped. I’m thinking more of the Egyptian god Anubis.

Greyhounds can have those kind of ears too:

My thought as well. Shea is lovely! And I guess I have to change that Doberman to German Shephard for the ears.

I’m editing again because my bro had a dog that was half Doberman, half Mastiff. His ears stood at attention 24/7.

Given Shea’s size (around 60 pounds), I can see her being mostly Lab/Greyhound. It’s hard to tell with mutts though.

P-man, congrats on a new dog. I love dachshunds and must admit I’d be tempted to buy a pure bred, but so far I’ve been lucky finding rescues.

What you said about the ears is correct, and Mrs P may be right about the ancestry.

I thought Anubis too. I do not read fantasy or play DnD. Nope.

Very cute doggo.

That’s what mine was…well, the cattle dog part. He was mixed with aussie shepherd. Smartest dog I’ve ever known.

Edit to add…just saw the pics. Shea is gorgeous!
