Just Because I Can... Starting The MMP Early

That’ll be “sandwiches eaten at th computer if somebody else makes them and brings them to you because you haven’t been organised enough to make them before you started playing and you can’t possibly leave the game for the few minutes it takes to chuck a sarnie together”…

I just told 'im indoors I’d stand in the doorway and throw tins of soup at him. Still in the tin, of course, because that’s how I feel about the whole thing. Of course, I could kill two birds with one stone and throw frozen fish fingers at him, it would count as food and trout slaps as well.

Rosie - Sounded like y’all were enjoying yourselves! I liked it.

Nava, BooFae - nah, I’m an airhead who got y’all mixed up in my head! Sorry about that.

I have some work today, and online training again - Hopefully it will make the day go by faster!

Hooray for Firday! And three day weekends! And I’m off Tuesday to take Dad for his colonoscopy. (He liked his new GI doctor.) And I’m taking Wednesday morning off for another appointment for him. And next Firday is my regular Friday off.

Yay for time off!

rosie, the song wasn’t really my cup of tea (I’m not a fan of barbershop, to be honest), but it sounded pretty good nonetheless. Plus y’all look like you’re having a great time, and that’s what really matters.

BooFae, I vote for chucking real trout at him and calling it sushi. Frozen fish fingers just don’t have the same satisfying slap.

{{Pie}}

Hugs and kisses for the rest of you too.

I’m gonna go find a cup of wake-the-hell-up, because all of me is extra-droopy today and I desperately need some perking up. :stuck_out_tongue:

I would, but that’s just such a waste of good trout!

{{{Pie}}}

Soapy, if you don’t already know, Listerine is good for getting skunk off of dog.

No sound on the work computer so I can’t watch the video, rosie. Well, I could watch but a vocal performance without sound kind of defeats the purpose.

Last summer half-day Firday here. It went by fast. I’ll be glad to be able to go home at 5 next week, guilt-free. I don’t think I worked a full 40 hours all summer, but boy, did I feel guilty about it! :stuck_out_tongue:

Friends coming in for the weekend. House is clean (thanks to Cleaning Lady), chicken is marinading for souvlaki-in-pitas for dindin, laundry is almost done. And friends are leaving on Sunday so we still have all of Monday to relax too! Good deal!

I think I’m going to try to pick up some little mums to put into some outdoor planters this afternoon. My summer plants didn’t do all that well, but mums only have to live for a month or so. They’d be pretty during that time. Better than the dying petunias and sweet potato vine! If I can get off my lazy butt, I’ll post pics (of the replacement plants, not the dying plants).

Howdy Y’all! I am at N.O.L. Until one p.m. Since 9:30 a.m. So, I am at home. I just made out the hamburger steaks for tonight. I am comtemplatin’ goin’ ahead and fixin’ ‘em and the gravy. It’s one of those things that can be better heated up. Also, I have some sweet N.O.T. bakin’. Ima make a sweet N.O.T. pie cause I need to use ‘em and ol’ y’all know who is particularly fond of sweet N.O.T. pie. I spoil him too much. :smiley: Think I’ll go ahead and steam the green beans too.

BioRosie I think y’all sounded great. Plus like Muppet said, y’all look like you were havin’ fun. I lurves that song btw and you sounded really good! Matter of fact, I just put my Manhattan Transfer cd on to listen to because of that song. My all time fave MT song is Operator. I foresee loud singin’ along with MT shortly.

Byzantine eunuchs, Haze? Do explain.

Speaking of hazes, the first ECU football game is this weekend. I’m surprised that I miss hearing about the football games in the fall. I guess that means I have to keep up with Pirate football along with Duke basketball. And since the World Cup is next year (I became a fan of World Cup soccer when I saw the infamous headbutt in the 2006 finals) I may have to become gasp a sports fan! :eek:

BooFae, I get the feeling you’re not a WOWCrack fan. :wink:

I can’t watch rosie’s quartet because I’m on the Craptop and it doesn’t play nice with video. Oh, one day I’ll have my computer back and I’ll be able to use a real mouse and an updated OS.

Since I’m a girl, can I still fight over you?

I am definitely, definitely, definitely going to clean today. I’ve told no less than 3 people in real life and now a whole Internet Message Board, so it must happen. Plus, I really owe it to the hubs - he’s been crazy sweet & thoughtful lately, and he normally does all the cooking and the cleaning and the home repair and just generally makes sure that I am happy and cozy.

I also need to go get my bloodwork done so that I can stop fasting. Plan of action: do dishes, take out trash, go to doctor & get bloodwork done, go to office, visit library, return home, finish kitchen, do another load of laundry, do a fast-tidy of living room, get all pretty for Date Night. It’s on the internet now, so it must be true, right?

I hope everyone else has a delightful Friday & get done (or not done) what they want to!

Blurf. Tired. I need to stop playing Civ IV until oh-god-thirty in the morning. But it’s addictive.

BooFae - You have never played WoW, have you? I’m mostly recovered, but I can tell you with one hundred percent certainty it is VERY easy to play that game til 4am even when you have been bored since 8pm the night before. The “just one more” state of mind is a powerful thing. Whether it’s farming gold or materials, or raiding, or just hanging out in game and chatting with friends and guildies, your arbitrary stopping point inevitably keeps getting pushed further and further back and you are forever “almost done”.

Doggio - I have been asked, politely but firmly, to please leave an all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet. Only once, but still.

Nava, Haze - Girls who are into gaming are 300% hotter than non-gamer chicks. It’s a scientific fact, based on a comprehensive survey of almost two of my gamer friends.

Had Mechanics of Materials at 9am this morning. I am suddenly and thoroughly reminded of exactly how much I hate Statics - there is no such thing as a Statics problem with less than 18 steps in the solution, and MoM is Statics with another layer of math. i.e. Statics asks you to “find the horizontal and vertical components of the forces acting on all the beams and joints in a truss”, for example, while MoM asks you to do the same thing and then combine your results with information about the material said truss is made from -information like tensile strength, shear strength, modulus of elasticity, whatever - and then determine whether the whole lot is going to come crashing down.

Very important, yes, but also mindnumbingly boring and tedious.

After MoM was Technical Writing. Pointless exercises assigned by a quiet mumbly professor with a thick accent; most people in the class can’t hear/understand half of what he says. Oh well, my roomie Alex is in the same class (purely by coincidence, we did not sign up together) so we can work together to translate from Mumble to English and get the work done.

That class ended at 11am, at which point I picked up lunch and headed back to my room to eat and surf the 'net. I have Statistics at 1pm, then I’m done for the day, so at least today isn’t as loaded as Wednesday.

OK, gotta go eat now, before it’s time to split. I have half an hour. Lunch is a turkey-bacon-ranch sub. noms sub Mmmmmmm, sub.

Back later!

Just another quick drive by.

My husband and I were avid WoW players, as were my son and daughter.

We have finally burned out on Wow. Well, actually we burned out several months ago. The newest expansion is nice, and all, but still it’s the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. Kill 10 of this, kill 20 of that, obtain this item that rarely drops and that you have to kill 100 mobs to even get.

Plus, it’s annoying when people take the game so seriously. It’s a game people! At any rate, it all got kind of boring. Couldn’t get good gear unless we went on raids, but the gear we had wasn’t always considered up to par for a raid group. Also, instances. It was annoying how petty and childish people became, calling each other names, etc.

So, we’re done with WoW. In fact, we’re probably going to sell our accounts, after switching my son’s toon to my daughter’s account.

Besides, it is a big time sucker. The instances take forever, as do raids. Also, the “just one more” turns into 50 more. Before you know it, you’ve wasted your whole day and night on the game. I don’t miss it.

Well, here I am at work. I really don’t want to be here and have a massive headache. I’m trying to deal with it though because I’ve got too much on my plate to justify trying to take off. I plan on taking my work computer home so I can do some work on Monday from home.

I won’t be able to do it tomorrow or Sunday. Tomorrow, we help our daughter’s boyfriend move and on Sunday we’re going to the horse races. Frankly, I’d rather stay home on Sunday, but hubby wants to go.

Well, I should go earn my pay again.

I left the office early - yay! Bought cake mix and baked daughter’s b-day cake. It’s cooling, then I’ll frost it. But I can’t find my cake caddy. It’s stainless steel and I won it in a cake decorating contest almost 40 years ago. I hope I didn’t lend it and forget about it. grrrrrrr

And I sold an old boat trailer. We’d bought it, thinking to fix it up for daughter’s Laser, but when we bought the Snipe, we had to fix up its trailer, and it can handle either boat. So the old white one is gone. Yay!

I don’t know why I watch the home-selling shows on HGTV - I swear, some people are such idiots. The realtor says “Declutter - buyers are turned off by a mess” and the sellers ignore it. Realtor says “No one wants carpeted bathroom floors” but the homeowner won’t redo the floor. Realtor says “Pack up some of your stuff to make the rooms look bigger” but the seller can’t be bothered. Then they whine because the house doesn’t sell. Sheesh - why contract with a pro, then ignore the professional advice. Idiots.

Time to ice the cake. TGIF!!!

G-dammit! I just found out my boss called in to our admin assistant and plans to have a “sit-down” with me. It’s my fault, I made the mistake of showing my exhaustion and venting a little to her this week about our crazy workload. I should have kept my trap shut and my head down. I’ve got no one to blame but myself. The admin assistant “mentioned” to the boss how tired I was looking, the fact that no one has really seen me come out of my office this week, etc.

So, now he plans on “talking” to me. This won’t be good. He already thinks I get too wrapped around the axle when I’m on a mission to get something done. I don’t know, maybe I don’t do a good job of picking out the hottest fire, but everything has been hot and is “command” or higher directed. I don’t really get to choose. They expect it done, period, end of story. They don’t seem to understand or give a shit that we admin/analyst folks are just as tired and overworked and understaffed as our healthcare providers.

I’m in no way denigrating our healthcare providers. They are (most of them), working their asses off to meet the demands of our enrollees. It’s just that we are too. We are monitoring, reporting, advising, building reports and databases, publishing reports, attending meetings, completing and analyzing data calls, and the list goes on.

So good, now I get to fret and fume over this upcoming chat over the long weekend. Dammit.

Arrgh, so sorry. I’ve been a real bitchy whiny baby here. I’ll try to do better.

Hey, look at it this way: while getting too wrapped up in venting is as bad as not venting, any venting you do here doesn’t get back to the boss.

So feel free to vent.

Vent away Taters. That’s part of the reason the MMP exists. {{{Taters}}}

Yep I’m home. I went back to trainin’ at one. I left again at two. The sweet N.O.T. pie is bakin’ away. All I gotta do to get dindin ready is make the rice and heat up the hamburger steaks, gravy and beans. Oh and Ima bake up some frozen bizkits. I know I could make some homade bizkits, but, hey, I’m bakin’ a pie from scratch. Ok the crust is one of those unfold and press in a pie plate things but still… it counts.

MOOOOOOM why does your cake need a caddy? Is it goin’ out for a round of golf before it gets et up? :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve got a real hankering for a baked sweet potato and have been wanting one for quite awhile.

So why I haven’t I bought any? Because the stoopit grocery store doesn’t always seem carry them. In fact, they rarely have sweet potatoes. Oh, they have YAMS, but yams are NOT sweet potatos. There is a difference in flavor.

When I said I vented to our admin assistant, believe me, it was just TINY bit, nowhere near close to how I really felt and what I was really going through. I basically told her I was swamped and stressed about it. That was about it.

Bah! I’m just going to do what I can do and the rest be damned. I’m supposed to leave at 1530 today. I’ve got too much work to get done before then and I was contemplating staying late again. I may change my mind; I dunno. I’m gonna have a smoke outside to mull it over. Yep, I fell off the no smoking wagon too.

Hugs to all. My ears (and eyes) are great vent/rant receptors, so have at it. They let us out early today, and the weather is simply marvelous, so I am sitting in the park, listening to my iPod, and munching a fish sandwich. Hooray for 3 day weekends!!!

{{{Taters}}}

Also, I’m pretty sure I forgot a hug for Pie earlier – {{{Pie}}}

**Spaz *– I love football – we should definitely watch some World Cup action together :slight_smile:

*The non-American variety. Well, American Football too, but that’s a different story.

Mother warned me about shiskas. :eek:

sure. But don’t expect any spoils of war - I don’ roll like dat

Ffffffffff…

So. Goddamned. BORED.

I’m building desktops on Newegg because I have literally exhausted everything else I usually do online. My on-campus friends are commuters so they are not here to hang out with. Alex Roommate went home for the night to pick some stuff up. I’m not hungry enough to go eat. There’s nothing on TV. No school-sponsored events that interest me are happening any time soon. Nobody’s on AIM or YIM. And I don’t wanna take a nap this late because I’m trying to fix my broken sleep schedule so this semester doesn’t kill me.

Ugh, this sucks.
