Just can't Believe still here after 21 years…

Believe still here after 21 years…Amazing. Of course nothing to really compare it to, given that the online world did not exist for 21 years prior to 1999… Or rather wasn’t widely available For the 21 years prior to 1999, But it strikes me as remarkable that the community is still here and that I am still occasionally participating. Along with what I would imagine are at least hundreds of others who joined somewhere around the same time I did. I wonder how this compares to other longtime message boards? (How long is Reddit been around? Cannot STAND the layout, way too much work. I am utterly baffled how it became so popular…)

Anyway… I am mundanely and pointlessly sharing that I find this all amazing. And wonderful.

Another '99er here. Yes, I am also amazed.

Gotta say, this is the longest-standing continuous online presence I have, by a considerable margin. And heck, it even stayed more or less in the same style and format for almost the whole time period. That is itself very unusual.

Ocassionally some loooong dormant thread is fortuituously brought back to life and upon checking it out I surprise myself by finding me from a decade+ back in it.

Also a '99er, but I have always been more of a lurker.

I just realized that one can see a poster’s join date by clicking on their name…

I’ve been active in one SDMB community or another since 1995, I think. Maybe 1994. I was one of the first posters on the AOL forum.
I didn’t move to the VBulletin board right away when the AOL board was discontinued - I spent a few years on alt-fan cecil adams, then eventually went over to VBulletin.
It’s been a part of my life for awhile now.

This is a good place. Somewhat amazingly - it remains mostly smart and mostly civil. I prefer not to think how long I’ve been posting.

I am still a noob, but I love this place.
Thank-you for letting me in to play.

You 99-ers just blow me away. I often go read your very old threads. Amazing.

Of course I’m enamored of @Cecil_Adams.

I kinda like @Ed_Zotti, as well

I’m a 99’r too, joined 12/23/99. I love this place. There have been a lot of changes, but nothing stays the same forever.

Another lurking '99er. I’ve been checking in nearly every day since March of 1999. I suppose it’s kind of a ritual at this point.

And I have to agree - it’s great to see the same names still around.
