I’m a struggling guitar player and, just for the heck of it, bought an acoustic bass guitar a few weeks ago and I really do love it, in addition to my six-string acoustic and my electric.
We have been living without a clothes dryer for 4 months. We tried to get it repaired (because it was a top loader and they don’t appear to exist any more) and the first repair didn’t work and then we had to wait 2 months for a part from New Zealand and that didn’t work either. Anyway, we just a new dryer (and, while we were at it, a washer) installed. Joy!
I bought an orthopedic pet bed for my arthritic kitty and she started using it on the fourth day and has slept in/on it every night. Those of you with cats will appreciate how utterly amazing this is. Normally a cat will avoid sleeping in whatever bed you have bought for it, forever. Apparently the orthpedic-ness is exactly what she’s been needing. Hurrah!
If you rip these damn masks off carelessly, like I do, you can pull off an earring. I thought I lost one of my new little hoop earrings, but luckily found it in the parking garage outside the elevators. That’s where I generally yank the mask off in a gesture of defiance.
Re the first post: my dentist told me I had a young man’s gums (I said I hoped he didn’t want them back).
Recent small joys:
finding that my main computer hadn’t died on me, but that its power input socket had broken, and finding a local repairer who put in a replacement quickly
working out that months of seeming interference on my TV reception, and inexplicable differences between the TV and PVR tuners, wasn’t so much external as my own over-complicated set-up of connectors and cables . Once I’d checked it all over and simplified it back to basics, it was fine again.
I recovered the torn seat on my motorcycle myself. It was 95% good, but I could not get a couple symmetrical wrinkles out.
After a day in the sun, it sorted itself out. Yeah!
I got some cheese & cracker “balanced breaks” packs for work and every single one in the 3-pack had the exact same number of cheeses as crackers.
I got a second one and that wasn’t the case (not too far off, but not exactly the same), so I guess I just got lucky!
I’m gearing up for two huge events a week apart, so it’s been a long week and the next two weeks will continue to be of the “stay at work a few extra hours, then come home and keep on working” variety. But today is technically supposed to be “my Friday” (i.e. the end of my normal work week) and I had already decided and planned to leave work on time and take the night off.
Dinner was takeout pizza and it was just right.
Dog went to daycare, so she’s snoozing.
I had a quite decent check waiting in my mailbox when I got home for some of my freelance work.
I started a new book and it’s exactly what I wanted and need right now- funny, not too involved, but smart and well-written.
After I post this, I’m going to go change into my pajamas and then curl up on the couch and do NOTHING for the rest of the night. I mean. I’ll watch Youtube videos and play games on my phone, but nothing productive.
All-in-all, a pretty good night.
This last Sunday, my shikseh and I went to Norma’s ( a middle eastern restaurant). I had the chicken shawarma. Then, in their nearby market, I bought a bottle of rose syrup. Two and half days later, I was out of rose syrup. I cannot say enough wonderful things about rose syrup. I would have run out even sooner, but I ran out of milk first.
Today, the shikseh and I went to Rangoli (an indian restaurant) I had the paneer bhurji (shredded cheese in creamy sauce with peppers), the kashmiri kulcha (flat bread with bits of coconut and sweet things baked in) and we split a falooda for dessert ( vanilla ice crem, basil seeds, sweet herbs, vermicelli and rose syrup)
Oh, and today I attended a mandatory web training for work. I was pleased that a large number of names I remember from pre job training were there. I had feared it would just be me and a few other people whose jobs were in peril. I took notes. Then, in a wonderful development, there was no quiz or anything at the end of training. So, I got reassurance that it’s not just me. I also got paid two hours for an hour training. Always a plus.
ETA I forgot to define shawarma- It’s beef, lamb, turkey or chicken with all these wonderful spices. It is generally served in a pita with some variety of vegetables and tahini- a great sauce made largely of sesame seeds.
In the last few days I’ve: finished a “song” based on an improvisation, made a video for the same, been useful to my co-workers to the point where they flatter me, had great take out Laotian food made by a place around the corner, and made queso fundido for dinner tonight.
If I didn’t have leftovers to look forward to, the grim reaper could take me now and I’d personally be satisfied. That said, I really, really hope he isn’t reading this thread.
Saturday nights my wife is out of town, so Dog Empress gets to sleep on the big bed with me. No matter what I’ve been doing all day, my right arm will be squeaky clean from tongue bath.
Heat stove went out. It’s a freestanding job and we really enjoy it. And well, it’s our primary source of heat
Wife got COVID
Drain pipe came completly apart on upstairs shower flooding our main floor. Drywall and flooring destroyed.
I got COVID
My Mom took a turn for the worse, and there really isn’t much I can do about it. Working on getting a visiting nurse.
My little bit of enjoyment for today is that this is all getting taken care of. I fixed the water heater, stove and drain pipe. Allstate is going to take care of the water damage and there is nothing that needs my immediate attention today. Today is MINE. :fingers crossed:
