Just Re-discovered "The Straight Dope" Website..

Hey All,
I used to frequent the site a lot back in the day. I originally joined in '99 and perused the board until late 2001. I remember laughing just about every time I’d log in. The 'dopers were (almost) always smart, witty and a blast to shoot the breeze with.

Flash to 2012: I was doing a google search a few weeks ago and re-discovered the site! I re-read many of my old posts and found , much to my surprise, that MANY of the old guard are still around! Bricker is still around. Geobabe and Uncle Bill got married!? :eek: I remember having a serious online crush on Geobabe. Congratulations guys! Uncle beer is still here. (Enjoyed many of your posts!) And I see that Tubadiva is still here running the show with a velvet clad iron fist. :smiley:

Looking forward to enjoying the board again!

If you found your old threads, you may want to log in under your old name. Especially if you’re a '99er.

Or email Tuba if you can’t; multiple memberships are still a no-no.

I’ll do that. I just assumed that the old membership was long ago inactivated.

Yeah, contact the admins and get setup properly. They’ll understand if you assumed it was a dead account.

AFAIK, long inactivity doesn’t result in deactivation like on some web sites.

No, it doesn’t. Paying subscriptions lapse if they’re not renewed, but your account does not automatically get closed or deleted. And yes, TubaDiva is still here, although they’ll let just about any self-important twit moderate around here these days.

Well…long story short…My first name is Rich. I was on Nuke submarines in the Navy in the mid 80’s. My last name starts with a G followed by 7 letters. This was too long for easy pronunciation in the Navy, so it was shortened to my nickname “G7”. So… Rich G7Subs
