I just got back and I loved it. Way better than the second movie.
Does it seem as if they’re going to star phasing Downey out?

Not with 2 more Avengers films in the pipeline.
It’s all part of the plan.
I think the next Avengers movie will be his last hurrah.
Did everybody see it with the post-credits scene attached? When I saw Avengers at a press screening the shawarma scene wasn’t yet attached.
I liked it, a nice gag.
Followed by a title card saying “Ned Stark will return.” And if he returns not as Iron Man or not played by Downey, then people will be unhappy.
I thought this one could be tightened up a bit but overall quite mindlessly enjoyed it blowy-uppy of it all.
Can’t decide if I quite buy the explanation for why the Avengers didn’t get involved (and Stark only did because it became personal). At minimum you might think major terrorism targeting the U.S. would get Captain America’s attention.
Sean Bean is Ironman??!?
He’s busy?
Doh.
Well, sure. I know why they weren’t involved from outside the movie. But inside the movie it doesn’t make much sense. Especially at the end when a phone call saying “Hey, S.H.E.I.L.D., I’m in Chattanooga driving to Miami so I’ll be there before lunch. I know terrorism isn’t your thing but the President is about to be killed and I did recently sacrifice myself to save Earth, do you think you could send Bruce down here for a couple hours to help out.”
The movie didn’t exactly shy away from the larger universe. But then, I’m not a comic book reader either so haven’t incorporate individual character books simultaneous with group books into my DNA.
Downey’s inter-action with the young nerd made me think back to his “Less than Zero” days. A good actor and certainly NOT the hero type. That’s the movie’s main charm, I think. Kingsley was a laugh. Scarier than in his role in “Lucky Number Slevin” yet funnier than “The Dictator.”
Two Oscar winners plus Downey (who should have won by now.)
Are we still doing spoiler boxes?
Spoiler boxes are probably a good idea at least until the official release and editing of the title.
“All we know is, he and Steve left Hamburg two days ago; they were searched like we expected, smuggling in no gear to go undercover with a neo-Nazi group.”
Oops, I didn’t think about the fact that my post above is a little bit of a spoiler. If someone wants to get that spoilerized I have no beef with that.
As the Avengers did a very good job of showing, the Hulk is essentially the nuclear option. He’s so uncontrollable, and does so much collateral damage, that you only call him in when you have no other choice.
Except at the end when he figures out how to control himself. Unless he immediately forgot after the movie ended.
But I’m not literally suggesting that they should have brought in the Hulk. Just that a bit more effort might have been put into explaining why, in a world with at least three full-time bona fide superheroes (the absence of Thor is more inherently understandable), once the shit got really serious they weren’t available to help out. Hell send Black Widow or Hawkeye if the others were stuck in a pose off.
He was if you asked Winston Churchill.
I hope not. I’d hate to see Iron-Man getting killed.
I thought it was an ok movie, but had a few issues.
What exactly did the bad guys do again? Some mumbling about DNA, and I didn’t catch the rest. So they’re super strong and heal up, and get hot? And occasionally blow up if they don’t control themselves?
The bad guys don’t seem to be especially tech savvy. How did they hack the airwaves, and if it’s been going on for a while, why didn’t Tony pinpoint the origin of the signal sooner? Jarvis obviously could have done it in a few days, and the broadcast point appeared to be a fixed location within the US.
How did the bad guys deactivate the Iron Patriot? As far as I remember, someone grabbed his wrist and he rolled over.
I thought the movie was ok in spite of all that. Much better than the omniscient villains in the new Batman movies.
Downey also has two more Sherlock Holmes movies in the works. And he’s making a movie called The Judge, which is a non-franchise mystery thriller. If he’s making two Avengers movies, two Sherlock Holmes movies, The Judge and another Iron Man, that’s already got his dance card pretty full for the next two or three years.
Saw it today also - much, much better than 2, I’m not sure about 1, but it is close.
I especially liked that Tony spent a lot of time out of the suit.
(And even better I got to see it free. )
Allow 30% to 70% of that time spent in jail and rehab and he’s really busy (outside jail that is.)
