Just to Annoy Gadfly: The Paris Hilton "Simple Life" Thread!

You’d be surprised. I was once introduced to a gal named Brandy and said “They say you’re a fine girl!” She looked completely startled and said “What?!? Who says that?”

Not to say that either joke was funny, mind. The Motel 6 gag was especially groan-worthy.

Say, here’s a thought: Why doesn’t everybody chip in and get Paris a Caddy? (Yes, I know that she can afford to buy herself a fleet of them, but if you don’t get my point, I’m sure Eve will be more than happy to explain it to you. )

Loved it.
If Nicole ever needs work, she can definitely make it as a hostess.
She knows how to talk to people
“I like men who sweat!”
yeah baby…

Who the hell is Lisa Douglas?

I was surprised - as much as I enjoyed laughing at them last week, they just annoyed me this week. I wanted to slap Nicole at the quilting bee. She was just rude, and trying way too hard to be funny and cool. Maybe it’s because they’re getting jobs that I can identify with. I felt bad for their Sonic coworkers. Guess they got fired from that one, too.

Lisa Douglas is the rich snobby character played by Eva Gabor on Green Acres, a goofy sitcom in the late 60s. She married Eddie Albert’s character (named Oliver Douglas) (?) and moved from a penthouse in Manhatten to a hick town called Hooterville. It was sort of a sister show to Petticoat Junction. She was a real fish-out-of-water. She would try to milk the cow and feed the chicken in full makeup and a fancy dress and high heels.

I’m so ashamed that I know all that. :o

I, too, found them beyond annoying in this episode. “Tell your grandsons there’s some skanky ho’s in the neighborhood for the next 6 weeks!”

They couldn’t spell “boogers”? What the hell? I turned after the Sonic job-- during the part where Dad was explaining how everybody in town (what, all 816 of them?) was beginning to hate them for letting two such assholes stay with them. Still, what was that lady thinking when she sent them outside in those milkshake things? That they were gonna smile and wave happily?
As to the hyper-horniness these two like to display, at first I thought it was goofiness on display for the hicks to be shocked at. But then I saw something on (MTV?, VH1?, E?) called Celeberty Confidential and saw that this is really how girls act at these “parties for jet-setters”. In fact, they may be toning it down for the people down on the farm since I saw no booby baring or snatch showings.

I was only able to catch snatches (!) of the show last night, but they really were annoying—and it was so obvious they were being egged on by the producers.

Green Acres, by the way, was not so much a “sister show” to Beverly Hillbillies and Petticoat Junction as a brilliant, po-mo parody. Completely absurdist and as fresh and funny today as it was then.

I was telling my bf that they’d make great strippers. They know how to flatter the men.

Other than that, they’re shamefully rude and annoying. Still, I find some of it funny. The Sonic marquee thing was so awful, but I did laugh.

  • Sonic Burgers must be regretting that decision. There is such a thing as bad publicity.

-I nearly fell over in my chair when Nicole recommended making the quilts “edgier.”

  • Paris Hilton dances like Elaine Bennis.

-Nicole Richie is a ho (but she has a likeable quality, unlike Paris)

-Come to think of it, being a “ho” is her likeable quality.

On the other hand, I am horrified that I had forgotten it, since I pride myself on my vast knowledge of useless trivia.:o :o :o

That’s using your head!

I’m surprised we have to draw anyone’s attention to the parallels between Simple Life and Green Acres. Simple Life uses the Green Acres theme song as its theme music.

Anyhooo…these girls are showing something other than mere cluelessness. They don’t have a grasp on the basic concept of Right and Wrong. Particularly Nicole, I think–filling milk bottles with water is illegal, immoral and just plain Wrong. Taking your employer’s money while intentionally screwing up is Wrong. And they don’t get it.

Is it the intent that they have a different job each day? Or are they supposed to hang onto a job for five weeks?

They annoyed me in this episode as well. And I’m sorry, but these two are not all that hot. It was funny seeing the locals’ reactions to them in the club. I guess it’s a good thing they’re in Arkansas, here in Dallas you see hotter (by the Hollywood definition at least) women at 7-11. Working at 7-11! Seriously though - I doubt they’d get that much attention around here, except what the entourage of cameras attract. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was the same way in Arkansas, actually.

Oh, one more…flipping off strangers in passing cars is not just Wrong, it’s borderline psychotic.

Am I the only one that gets the feeling that Nicole is acting out trying to impress Paris and keep her cool status?

The scene that summed up this entire reality TV endeavor was Paris dancing at the club . . . by herself . . . in front of the gigantic mirror. Perfection. Say what you will about the scripted nature of the show, but BMP has a knack for succinctly nailing a person’s character in filming and editing. Again, Braxton demonstrated how Paris and Nicole are unable to perform even the least challenging household tasks, as he got his four-year-old self up onto a chair and washed the dishes.

Paris has 2 different voices. One of them is the snotty, deeper voice she used around the family. The other is the high-pitched, girly voice she used at Sonic.

Nicole seems a bit brighter than she is attempting to show us on-screen.

It’s not that these girls have no sense of right or wrong. They just don’t fucking care. They are in this place for 5 weeks, working jobs that will have no effect on their future and meeting people they will probably never see again in their lives. They’re not on the show to learn something about responsibility, they’re are on to get attention. And they’re doing a marvelous job of it.

So, Baby Fish Mouth, you’re saying that they’re not amoral – they’re immoral.

Sounds about right.

jsc1953, exactly. They know perfectly well that all that b.s. they pulled at Sonic was wrong, but they have no reason to care about the consequences.
