Justice League 1/29: The Once and Future Thing Part Two (Spoilers in the Preview)

I think I need a change of underwear.

Hal freakin’ Jordan!

If Donna Parker shows up I might explode.

Dammit, I wish I hadn’t peeked at the spoiler before I saw that episode.

Can’t say I didn’t warn you. He’s only there for about two minutes, but its an awesome cameo.

Bruce Wayne meeting Batman

Justice League rocks.

And God! God! Special guest appearance by the Allmighty Himself!

So, now that Chronos is stuck in a time loop, Terry survives, right?

<sniff>

I like Terry.

Man, that was awesome.

Which brings up the Great Debate; would God allow time travel?

Nice fanboy-friendly references to two major DCU events:

Crisis AND Zero Hour!

Dwayne McDuffie is rapidly closing in on Stan Berkowitz as my favorite Justice League episode writer and is now neck-and-neck with J.M. DeMattis. Then again, Stan hasn’t scripted an episode in months – does he still work for the WB?

F**kin’ awesome.

I guess we know why Static now has gray hair—this episode takes place 50 years in the future, not 40.

Considering all the other wierd-ass potentially world threatening crap thats been going on through the ages in the animated DCU, I think we can say that God’s taking a laissez faire approach to running the universe. (That, or he got real sleepy after the act of creation, and he’s been passed out for awhile.)

“Time Shift. I’m up to speed.” Made me smile.

Also, I wish they’d do a multi-part arc taking on the Crisis. Last night’s little nods to it were just a teaser. Heck, do a straight to video Justive League Unlimited movie about it.

watsonwil. I just had a geek orgasm… was it good for you, too?

When I saw Hal, I was like “Dude! Sweet!”

The creeping white walls of unreality moving in… The concept of rebooting the universe from the beginning…

“The Green Lanterns have a legend - no one can see the beginning of time.”
“So write him a ticket!”

“I can’t believe I was ever that green.”

Could someone please post a spoiler with both episodes stories for me please or direct me to one? We don’t get JLAnimated around here and the wait until I can somehow acquire the new episodes just kills me. Thanks for the help in advance.

I thought it would have been cool if, in the middle of a fight, Batman suddenly turned into Bruce Wayne. No combat skills, no gadgets, no drive for revenge, and a couple of healthy, rich parents living somewhere in contemporary Gotham. Let him get whaled on for a few mintues, then time-shift him back into the Dark Knight and have him break somebody.

Eh. I was faking it. Can you at least get me a towel?

Okay – finally saw it just now. Damn, that was a fun episode. I really, really, really, really wished I’d waited to see for myself before joining this thread. I would have been even MORE blown away than I am now. Nods to The Crisis and Zero Hour?

“Bruce Wayne, Batman. Have you guys met?”
“NOT NOW, TERRY.”
“Yeesh – what was it they used to call it…? Stereo?”

“65 is the new 30”.

“I’m more amazed that I lived to be your age.”

“Do you know what killed the dinosaurs? The clown does.”

“Batman is the Good Cop?”
“Everything’s relative.”

“Will you make up your mind?”

“Get away from my kid!”

I firmly agree that, “Time shift. I’m up to speed. Carry on.” was fucking great. Anybody who joined H.E.A.T., or wished they had, had to love that moment.

I really didn’t like the 22 minute time limit for single part episodes at first but I have to admit the JLU storylines are pretty fast paced now, and we see a lot more superheroes/villains.

Seeing John Stewart meet his future son, Warhawk – seeing the death of Terry McGinnis – watching Diana fade from existence – that was all very neat.

Just saw this one, thanks to a friend who hooked me up.

Nitpick: ‘Chucko does.’

Great moments:

The upgraded Jokers, particularly the Dee-Dees.

The Dee-Dees killing Terry (with an assist from a group of colonial soldiers).

Random Hal. (Jeez…John essentially turned into Kyle in Kid’s Stuff, and he literally turned into Hal in this one…When’s he going to go Guy? >_>)

The bit about Shayera laying an egg.

Chronos sleeping in the Elkhorn jail, inside the Colosseum.

‘Do you know what killed the dinosaurs?’

Chronos trying to pull a Paralax and the hand at the beginning of time. The writers’ geek-fu is strong!

Warhawk as the last survivor of the JLU was…interesting. Of course, everyone else’s deaths would have been undone by defeating Chronos, but still…

The random cameos in the background were fun to watch for. I caught Vibe, Booster, Stargirl, Supergirl and Gypsy…will have to rewatch them to see if I missed any.

I think Batman sticking the poor bastard in a time loop was pretty mean, even if it hadn’t turned out to be at the exact moment his wife was harranguing him.

Going back to the first part, Bat Lash kicked some major ass. I’m familiar with him and Jonah Hex, are the other two (El Diablo and Sherrif Smith) old western characters, too?

Yes. Smith, despite his rather progressive story (he always was Native American, and he always was a sheriff) operated under the name “Pow-Wow Smith”, which wouldn’t fly these days. I thought it was rather clever of them to use the nickname as a slur by his enemy (who was also an old DC character in disguise, Terra-Man, an old Superman baddie).

DC’s given some surprising exposure to its western characters lately. Over in Batman/Superman

>Smacking forehead.< i cannot BELIEVE I missed that was Pow-Wow Smith. Thanks Menocchio.

It was a trip having the final moments of the Wild West segment having the Indian kick the cowboy’s ass.

Thanks, Menocchio. And thanks for pointing out the Terra-Man reference, too. I’m not familiar with him, but at least I can point him out and maintain my illusion of omniscience. ^__~
