Well, this one time, when he was at villain camp…
I wouldn’t think so. For one thing, his real name is Bito Wladon. I don’t recall if he was actually the ruler of his country or just a patriot when he started, though he eventually took over and then later got exiled.
He was alos something of a horndog. He once used sonic mind -control to get Sue Dibny (Elongated Man’s SO) to marry him.
Sonar’s first appearance is in the Green Lantern Showcase that came out last year. I seem to remember that Sonar was just a guy who first conquered his country and then attacked GL to make it famous.

Man, she just had *horrible *luck with supervillain “suitors”.
You’re not conflating her with Iris (“Mrs. Flash”) Allen, are you?
Seriously, I’m not sure. I’d heard Sue Dibny had a tragic turn or two, but I haven’t kept up with it.
Identity Crisis, which is the real start of the current Infinite Crisis crisis, features a story about Sue Dibny’s unfortunateness.
Sue Dibny was raped years ago by the original Doctor Light, and was recently murdered by IIRC Ray Palmer’s deranged ex-wife.
I should mention that you SHOULD keep up with it. Just pop into Borders sometimes and read the trade. It’s a good story, and all in all, I’ve been pretty happy with IC… except for the IC issues themselves for some reason (too convoluted for characters to really develop as they do elsewhere, I feel)
Oh, and don’t read Otto’s spoiler. Read Identity Crisis instead.
Well, it was too late; I’d already known vaguely about what happened to Sue, though not the people involved. Menocchio’s original comment reminded me more of Iris Allen and the lethal (well, comic-book lethal) infatuation Adrian Zoom (a.k.a. the Reverse-Flash) had for her.
Said ex-wife subsequently being possessed by Eclipso (in the process destroying Arkham Asylum) in the Day of Vengeance miniseries and is currently in a permanent near solar orbit courtesy of Nightshade. I got to the possession point in the mini and just said out loud “Holy shit! Jean Loring!”
And the above is why I decided to take at least a full year off of DC comics, excepting Legion.
The whole wail and cry in Infinite Crisis about the way the world is worse than it was? They made it so in the last two years.
IC is already available in trade editions?
IDENTITY Crisis is out in a hardcover, with a softcover TPB to be announced.
INFINITE Crisis is still chugging along right now, maybe getting more boring and more convoluted with every issue.
I need to pay more attention when I read.
I thought that I would put this here, rather than start a new thread. It seems that DC and WB have finally pulled their heads out of their asses and will be releasing season one of JL (and Batman Beyond) on DVD next Tuesday. Finally.
I’m at last able to answer this question - I think it was Shatterfist, of the Cadre.
