Justice League - 6/11/05 (US) (open spoilers)

Great episode, loved the closing best of all.

“They set you up, Clark.”

<pause>

“They?”

FYI, this episode is being re-broadcast at 10:30 tonight.

Wasn’t Supes modeled after the Big Red Cheese?

Superman was first, remember? Other way around.

What I don’t understand was The Atom’s ‘diagnosis’ of the machine. “It seems to be what he said it was.” So if it was a big pile of slagged lead and kryptonite, how could Superman safely stand next to it?

And just what the hell is weapons-grade kryptonite? I know that the Army had a couple of missiles laced with kryptonite, but they weren’t the basis of the explosive part of the weapon.

I assumed that the shielding on the Kryptonite was intact, it was just the exterior that had been mostly melted.

Apparently, the creative team has decided that Kryptonite is analogous to Plutonium.

The thing that annoyed me was that Superman should have sent Captain Marvel down to check out the device… just in case Lex was telling the truth.

But then you wouln’t have the knock down, drag out fight.

The big, Blue Boyscout was being a dick, but the Big, Red Cheese sure wasn’t showing the wisdom of Soloman, either.

In general, there were a dozen ways Superman could’ve handled things better. I think stress and fatigue are getting to him.

Presumably, it had been disabled but not completely destroyed. Thus, the shielding was intact, preventing Superman from being exposed to the green K. This also meant that there was enough machinery left for the Atom to judge its original purpose.

True. They could have brought in the Atom to begin with and if it was a bomb Supes or Wally could have ran it into the ocean with minutes to spare.

Poor guy. He needs a vacation. Then again, the last time he took a break things didn’t go so well…

BTW, the hospital in Luthor’s city was called “Lena Luthor Hospital.” Is that his mother?

I like that they are showing to Supes as being less than perfect. Makes him a heck of a lot more interesting.

CM really gets to Superman. Supes is used to being the top dog and CM challenges that status.

(Of course, it is probably just midn control, or something…:()

His daughter, in the comics. And an interesting reference, considering the episodes coming up…

I agree with the Superman is a dick theory. This, and future episodes, puts his exchange with Batman at the end of The Doomsday Sanction into perspective doesn’t it? Also, I think that Batman will be central to how this whole thing plays out.

Correction: Lena is his sister’s name.

Note–in the comics, it is hinted that Luthor killed his Mother, Father & Sister.

Further: Pre-Crisis, Lena Luthor was a metahuman, with extrasenory powers.
Including telepathy & a limited precog ability.

I wonder if all 3 graves are actually filled…

I don’t remember any references to Luthor’s sister, but I do remember the infant child produced by the union of Lex and the Contessa…

Yes, but he seems to have named it after his sister.

Also, check the comics around 2000-2001.
You’ll see him kneeling by the graveside, putting on a show of false sorrow for the TV cameras. 3 graves.

Interesting. I’ll have to look it up when I get my Superman comics up to the new place…

My DVR did the same thing, but it cut off the very second Amanda Waller was revealed. Assuming **Big Bad Voodoo Lou ** is funnin’ with us (because otherwise, ew), did anything else happen? Any more dialogue?

“We don’t endorse presidential candidates. We don’t do deoderant commercials…”

<Cut to the Flash looking uncomfortable>

Heh.

I loved that as well. This show is amongst the best a keeping up with continuity.
