Saturday’s episode was pretty neat - a nice alternate take on the Hawk mythology that ties everything together.
One bump. Did no one else watch this weekend?
Yes. I thought the episode was nothing special. Having ‘Jon Stewart’ in the past stretched my suspension of disbelief even in a cartoon about super-heroes.
I thought it built the mythos of this cartoon up a bit. I’ll admit, I’m not crazy about adding Stewart to the mix – the eternal triangle bit does bother me, because part of what makes the Hawks themselves special is their eternal love. This kind of spit on that and I truly hope it doesn’t make it’s way into the comics. I very much like Jon Stewart, always have, but he is out of place in the Hawks’ world.
I was hoping that after everything else they did that Jon and Shayera would be a couple in this world and Katar wouldn’t ever appear – oh well.
Fair enough. I did enjoy the mention of Kahndaq, and Teth-Adam, though.
Tivoed. Busy month.
I’ve already watched to the series to the end, so it took me a minute to recall the ep were discussing.
Solid, i thought. I liked the twist at the end with Jon declaring that he won’t be a slave to fate, even given his personal feelings. I wonder how that will be resolved. Though, given that the series is over, I guess I’ll keep wondering.
Does anyone know if Warhawk ever used again in the comics?
And, if you’ve not seen the 2 part series finale, you’re in for a treat. Though I don’t think it was as strong as the previous season’s end (Divided We Fall).
Anyone know what the next DC property to go to the small screen might be?
The Legion of Super Heroes seems to be the next. I can’t tell you how much I hope that is true.
I think I’d heard something about that. Unfortunately, I’ve also heard that it will be done Teen Titans anime style.
Oh, well, there’s always Krypto.
It’s true. Several parts have been cast, and the designs for Phantom Girl, Brainiac 5, Saturn Girl, Superboy, Lightning Lad, and Timber Wolf have been released (Bouncing Boy is partially visible behind Brin, but you can’t get a good look). Wil Weaton’s apparently been cast as Cos.
The designs are…on the unusual side, and some will take some getting used to, but on the whole they actually work pretty well. Timber Wolf better damn well get tweaked before the show starts, though. Ugh.
Link? Brin is one of my two favorite Legionnaires (Drake is the other). Is this the 80s T-Wolf, like in the JLU episode?
Yeah, this episode was pretty blah. Just waiting for the big LoD/JLU throwdown in the last two episodes.
Wasn’t it originally going to be Supergirl and the LOSH? If so, why is Superboy going to be in it now? And I guess that means that it will not be in current Bruce Timm continuity?
Brin’s…not good at all.
Brainie and Tinya grew on my quickly, and Imra’s getting there. Superboy and Garth are both great (a couple minor missteps on Garth, but nothing truly distracting). But Brin, I can’t imagine growing on me.
Show me to ask for a link ever again.
People around here are wondering why I’m crying. How do you explain that you favorite comic book is being brought to the Cartoon Network, and looks like that?
Another thing…
I hope that the show doesn’t just focus on those characters. One of the things I love about the Legion is the depth of its team. It needs a JLU treatment, with a core team (that doesn’t call itself a core team). JLU hopefully proved that you can introduce obscure characters and not have to tell every origin story the first time they appear.
Someone finally figured how to do animated superheroes correctly. Please don’t slide back to the Super Friends / Spiderman and His Amazing Friends level. Don’t fuck it up, DC.
Dear Jebus more TT crappy design and animation – have we learned nothing from the popularity of the JLU?
On principle I agree with this. I strongly dislike the TT style, but is JLU more popular? Given its rather late time slot, it may be more liked by adults, but I really wonder what the ratings for both shows are. I really wish they would have gone with Far From Home as a tie in/pilot for LSH.
Because Teen Titans was SUCH a total bomb.
You’re joking right?

Ugh. Cartoon Network really made it hard for average viewers to stick with it: inconsistent and poorly promoted schedules. But it really was a sweet show. Dunno how it did in the ratings, but even poorly rated shows can do better if they have consistent timeslots and super late night reruns. Would reruning a tivoable JLU at 4:30am instead of super globetrotters really not work for them?
Yes. Make more shows like Teen Titans and The Batman. They’re more popular.
There’s a reason this is the last season of JLU, and it’s not because the creators lost interest.
