We’ll have to wait and see if this merits a new thread for each episode; but for now…
So; it’s the final season. Everything has built up to a final showdown between Boyd Crowder and Raylan Givens.
From the FX Web Page: the long brimming conflict between Raylan and Boyd Crowder will finally come to a head.
As much as I hate to see the series end; I think Raylan’s time in KY needs to be over. However, I could easily watch Raylan back in Miami; or anywhere else they need a take-no-shit type of Deputy.
I have a bunch of signed Elmore Leonard books (actually about to sell them to go after a guitar and stay cash neutral ;)). For the book Fifty-Two Pickup, his inscription reads “I almost liked the movie, but not quite…”
I am glad he was happy with Justified before he died - good stuff.
Oh yeah, it’s a must-see, even though last season was a bit weak. They really needed Elmore Leonard’s guiding hand, but managed to pull it off. Sorry to see it go, but it’s time to do it before they jump the shark. I need to watch the last couple of eps from last season to get caught up, I think.
I think I’ll wait till it’s all done before resorting to a binge-watch from Netflix, but I will certainly miss this show, even if S6 turns out to be weak. I can’t imagine Olyphant and Goggins allowing that to happen and the writers seem to enjoy reinventing old plots and situations. The supporting cast has had no equal and only a few pretenders in shows like Breaking Bad and Sons of Anarchy.
Can y’all think of any other recent shows even in Justified’s league?
I liked those pictures. I would have included the one where the ‘bad guy’ did his schtick where he would play a game where he put the gun on the table and have a contest who could get the gun first, then stab a knife through the hand of his opponent as he reached for the pistol. Raylan was too smart, and just tugged on the table cloth, picked up the gun and shot the dude. I loved that scene!
To answer your question… I’d have to put Breaking Bad in the same league.
That would be on the “bad ass” gallery. Along with Art’s speech about Drew Thompson:
“He shoots Theo Tonin, fakes his own death in a spectacular fashion, pushes a guy out of an air plane WHILE he is flying it, parachutes into Harlan county with enough coke and cash to jump-start the economy of a small country. And then he has the balls to get a job in law enforcement, not once but two times. He spends a couple of days riding around with you while you’re looking for him. And now he’s run off with a hooker that’s half his age. That’s some bad ass shit.”
Good opening episode. Looks like they’re going to go out in style with the series. My wife asked me if I thought they would kill off Raylan in the end, but I don’t think Elmore Leonard would have wanted that to happen, so no.
So sad:
So long to Dewey, my favorite series character. Hapless, hopeless, and always engaging.
Yeah, loved the way they kicked this season off, and I can’t wait for the rest of the ride.
My wife and I were talking about Dewey when he had his first scene in the episode, and we were both amazed that he hadn’t gotten himself killed a long time ago. Lo and behold…
Personally, I stay out of episode threads until I’ve seen the episode. Or if I do read such threads, I understand that I’m going to be exposed to spoilers.
Don’t know, that’s why I’m asking the OP to clarify (wasn’t bitching at you, by the way). If he doesn’t, then we’ll spoil away, but you know how crazy people get about spoilers here, sometimes even months after something has aired. I usually watch it the following day, but sometimes go several days. I don’t check into a thread until after I’ve seen an episode, but there are some who can’t resist, I guess.
