Justified returns tonight!

On FX, of course. This season won’t have an uber-villain, according to the producers, but instead will deal with a 30-year old mystery. Looking forward to it.

Great! We’ll finally find out who shot JR!

The only show (other than Doctor Who) I have to watch instead of record.

Love the actor, love the character and Walton Goggins is perfect as his nemesis/accomplice.

And with every episode, I’ll be surprised when the hour is up.

I have to stream it via Amazon, as my cable company doesn’t offer FX. But now that I have a Roku, I’ll be able to watch on a TV instead of at the computer. So yay!

Did you see Goggins’s turn on Sons of Anarchy this past season?

Yes! He was awesome! And Tig’s reaction to his character was fantastically amusing.

I either record it or watch it on demand so I can fast-forward through the commercials. Also, 10:00 is late for this old geezer. My wife isn’t interested in watching it (for no apparent reason), even though I sing the praises of the actors, etc. Probably the violence aspect, although she has no problem with Breaking Bad. Women: who can figure them out?

Not the best season premiere, but still interesting enough; it seemed a bit disjointed. For example, the story line with the fugitive seemed to be building to something, but all of a sudden we jump from the scrap yard to he’s been returned to Memphis.

I’m not sure I like the Patton Oswald character – he just seems out of place in this type of series.

Sell me on Justified. I remember watching the first couple episodes of the first season and finding things incredibly bland. Does it get better? Should I give it another shot? Are the first few episodes representative of the rest of the show?

I’d say the first few episodes are somewhat representative, but not completely. It’s been a while since I’ve seen the first season, but I remember it starting off as a decent procedural show with interesting characters for a few episodes, then it really picked up about halfway through the first season. Then the second season is fantastic, and the third season is almost as good.

Justified has fantastic characters. If you liked the characters but thought the stories were bland, then I’d say give it another try and watch some more episodes. If you thought the show and the characters were bland, then it’s just not the right show for you.

I suppose if I watched Justified I might become interested in it; it seems like they’ve put some effort into putting together the show. Unfortunately for my particpation, the constant superposition of the moving, wiggly Justified logo obstructing OTHER programs I’m trying to watch is SO obtrusive and irritating that I can hardly bring myself to think of the show without seething Justified rage figuratively boiling in my veins. I know other shJustifiedows do this too, but this one’s extraordinarily large and twitchy logo seems optimized to draw the eye away from Justified whatever I’m actually trying to watch, and yesterJustifiedday, the damnable thing stayed onscreen Justifiedthrough entire programs.

Funny, it’s the disjointedness that made me like like all the more. It gave a taste of several different things that undoubtedly are going to come together in grand fashion!

However, I too have mixed feelings about the Patton Oswald character. Then again, doesn’t everybody know someone like that? What a dumb ass.

As soon as Raylan sat down with gun thug Tommy Bucks and tells him his ‘24 hours to leave town or be shot on sight’ were almost up…and then he actually shot him…I was hooked.

Raylan and Boyd are the most fun charatcers on TV, save for Sterling Archer.

The first season seemed to be finding its story arc, and not being entirely successful. Once Givens is back in Cracker Holler, things start picking up rapidly.

It’s become almost universal on the second-tier channels - FX, AMC, and especially the wastland known as SyFy - and I hate it more than most other recent developments in viewer-managing.

I call it bottom fungus.

This was weird: I went to IMDb see who the actor playing Boyd’s new sidekick is, and he’s not listed. Every other actor down to the two teens and the jailhouse trustee are there, but not that actor (or the character).

I did find him listed in the synopsis (Ron Eldard), but he has no listing for the character, either. Don’t often find players in major shows going unlisted for long.

I just watched the ep and was a bit disappointed. It seemed a bit too. . .cutesy. Like the actors were trying to out-ham each other. Constable Bob was just cartoonish, and the reverend unconvincing. I’m hoping they’ll settle back down into their roles.

Good call. I couldn’t put my finger on it, but Constable Bob’s Gremlin and Givens running around like a moonshiner didn’t help.

My wife is trying to talk me into postponing cutting our cable service until after the runs of Downton and Justified, and I just can’t see it. We’ll catch them on Netflix and Amazon, whenever, methinks.

I liked it. Watched it twice. Have to, to catch all the dialogue.

I thought the only thing cartoonish about Constable Bob was that he wants to be called Constable Bob. And the Gremlin. He seemed sincere, and I think Raylan asking him for help indicates that Raylan takes him at least a bit seriously. We’ve seen Raylan interact with people he believes are idiots, and he treated Bob with some consideration, maybe even respect.

Couldn’t remember where I’d seen Ron Eldard before – he was the girl’s dad in Super 8. He kinda looks like a young Gerald Depardieu (sp?). I’ve never seen Patton Oswalt in anything. IMDB shows lots of comedy and voice work for him.

I thought Raylan was fairly low-key, like he’s tired. It fits, especially if he’s been moonlighting for extra money.

Didn’t care for the reverend. Didn’t seem crazy enough, but that’s probably because he’s bored. My guess is that the reformed addicts like poor Hiram are giving their drugs and their drug money to the reverend. Something might be up with the reverend’s sister, who didn’t look very enthusiastic.

I like the mystery. How on earth did Arlo end up with that bag? And why does he want it now? And why would he trust a couple of kids to steal it for him, and then kill a guard just for asking about it?

“I meant for you to cut him loose”

“oh”

And I laughed so hard when she shot the bear!
