Justified returns tonight!

That was funny. So was Raylan’s line about assholes. Paraphrasing: “If you’re running into assholes all day long, chances are you’re the asshole.”

Question for vandals: Do car windows really break like that (the bail jumper’s truck window)? It looked and sounded like normal glass. Then at Hiram’s house, when Boyd set off the bomb, Hiram’s window didn’t break – it just crackled, like safety glass. But there was a sound of glass breaking. Odd.

No, and car windows are actually insanely hard to break with just blunt force. You need something sharp at the tip to shatter them. I’ve never seen safety glass in house windows like at Hiram’s house, either. Goofs, I guess.

Ditto.

I thought this episode set up the start to another interesting season - somehow I think there are gonna be some nasty snakes on the plain, and money that drops out of the sky might not be a good thing years later.

Having a huge glass window blow in on Boyd would have removed him from the rest of the season, if not from the show. It was pretty ridiculous, though, especially as they made a point of him moving away from the window.

I can’t figure out the car window one - there is hollywood glass that will break like safety glass. Maybe they thought no one would notice in a fast enough sequence.

On the car glass - he used the butt of his gun - I think that would qualify as something that “could” cause the window to break like that - in any event, that didn’t bother me as much as the shooting of the airbag.

I thought about that for a while. I’m not so sure it’s a faulty idea. Airbag canisters are usually sodium azide, which is set off by a spark or cap detonator. I think it’s highly possible that shooting one would trigger the inflation explosion.

It was entertaining as hell and 100% pure Raylan, in any case.

absolutely - it did not bother me in the context of the show - it would only bother me if we’re going to start nitpicking things like whether or not the glass would break like that.

turn the hammer around - use the ‘pointy’ end , not the ‘flat’ end.

Same principal as all the ‘emergency’ tools they sell.

Point taken.

I also liked it. Patton Oswalt’s character took me out of things at times. But, mostly I was ok with him.
It was kind of odd seeing Raylon take on the bounty hunting. But, they did a good job of explaining that with the throwaway “I have a kid coming” line.
I liked the convict he caught. he had a pretty good backstory that we just caught snippets of. Killing heroin dealers to get money for his kids.

Yeah, AuntiePam that scene with Arlo and the prisoner librarian was intense. I got the idea that he killed him since it seemed like he knew what it was. While the two kids, were going in blind and just happy to get it for the money. Now, where is he going to get the money? Who knows!

I need to rewatch the beginning. It looked like the man fell out of the sky in a suburban neighborhood with a whole bunch of drugs. Without the drugs it makes me think of DB Cooper. I wonder if that’s the sort of story that they are going for. And, if they are, how did Arlo get there to grab that bag?! We’ll see! I kind of like that they are mixing things up and not having a big bad for the season. (Although, I didn’t know that until I read this thread. I assumed that the snake handler was going to be the evil guy for the rest of the season.)
In any case, I am looking forward to where this is going to go!

I’m not so worried about the preacher. I have the feeling Boyd is going to see that as a new source of income in the OXY trade; and take over as preacher. Because after all, he sure talks purty.

The kid that stole the radio out of my car didn’t have too much trouble with it. Don’t know what he used though.

I can see those two teenagers learning from the bail jumper. The girl especially – she reminded me of Kristen Bell’s character in the first season of Deadwood, the one who robbed Joanie and ended up in Mr. Wu’s pig pen.

She’s smarter than her partner, and maybe a bit too ambitious. It wouldn’t surprise me to see her again.

The person that came out of the airplane had a chute that failed - I believe they are trying to pull in the relatively famous KY case where a drug enforcement officer died in just that manner -

and

Goggins is one of the best things on TV. His turn on Sons was epic and he handled those ginormous boobies expertly. I could watch him all day. Heh. Oswald’s character didn’t bother me too much… I really know people in law enforcement like that and there’s a Gremlin parked down the street. :stuck_out_tongue: I think his role will even out a bit more as time progresses.

Anyone remember who the bail jumper was? I deleted the episode without remembering to go back and look at the opening credits. IMDb only lists for each series guest stars who’ve made at least two appearances. Anyway, he impressed me. As for the kid who is playing the new preacher, Billy (Joe Mazzello), I’m not sure I’m sold on his believability. Sure, he’s got the sheltered, goofy aspect down, but he certainly didn’t exude enough sleaziness in his short excerpt. Also, he’s the brother from Jurassic Park. Just saying.

Looking forward to this season and Ron Eldard. I’ve really liked him since the short-lived Men Behaving Badly. And that hair cut did instantly make me exclaim to my husband that he looked almost identical to Depardieu. Weird.

It’s about the characters and the dialogue. And the acting. Seth Bullock from Deadwood has finally learned how to act.

As for the Gremlin, I can’t believe that there is still one one that is roadworthy that isn’t kept by a millionaire as a joke. What horrible cars.

Chris Chalk. I only know that because of a comment on Sepinwall’s blog, that it was the same actor who played Tom Walker on Homeland.

IMDB has no listing for Chalk, Oswalt, or Eldard. It’s likely we won’t see Chalk again, but Oswalt and Eldard will be back for more than two appearances (probably). So what’s up with IMDB?

Oooh, thanks! I hope to see him again sometime. His portrayal was very subtle. Not a hyped-up meanie bad guy and not all completely warm and fuzzy so that you’d totally sympathize with him.

On the IMDb, I think it’s self-reporting for that stuff and I’ve usually not noticed anyone’s credits being added until a short period afterward, like around two days after airing. Also, you have to have at least the two episode arc. But for people they’ve hired and know for a fact they’ll be on that long? I have no idea. They don’t have Mazzello listed, but they already have the girl playing his sister. Go figure.

He will appear on more than this first episode so you will be seeing more of him!
