Justified - Final Season [open spoilers]

I liked the way it ended. I am really going to miss this series

Same here. I just hope these actors land in shows that use their talents as well as this one. The writers were brave to go out with a whimper instead of just fucking up trying to be cute or different. Justified has moved up a notch or two in my All-Time Best TV Shows list.

I just read an interview with Walton Goggins. He’s up next in the upcoming Quentin Tarantino movie, then in a HBO comedy series with Danny McBride.

Kind of a shame that things didn’t work out for Raylan and Winona.

Plus Boyd’s white shirt, like his teeth, would have been noticeable even farther away than they appeared.

… but enough about last week. I like the finale alot and it seems like there might be room for a movie in a few years.

Even though he and Winona didn’t work out it seems like the situation with the daughter is a good one.

I also liked the way Ava’s story was resolved

I really liked how the hat played into it. To Boone, the hat was a symbol of masculine tradition, something only the great gunslingers of legend were worthy to wear. Wearing a hat like that signifies membership in a grand tradition of larger than life figures.

To Raylan, it’s just a damn hat. One that happens to fit.

I thought that was the ideal kind of resolution. We finally got the true measure of Raylan. It was the kind of ending where I didn’t know what was going to happen in the moment, but looking back I pretty much can’t see it going any other way now.

Hmm. I was underwhelmed by the finale … it seemed to be lacking the panache of the rest of the series. I think losing Elmore Leonard late in 2013 affected the quality of the writing overall – not that he was heavily involved, but I think he was able to provide a guiding hand. Last season was impacted, and this season was all over the map.

This episode felt really rushed; I don’t think they plotted the entire season very well, and they had too many storylines to try to wrap up. I wanted and expected more from the finale of a series that has been so pitch-perfect throughout its run.

I did like the final standoff between Boyd and Raylan (particularly Boyd’s exasperation), and their last meeting (that we know about, anyway). Those were well done, in my opinion.

I absolutely hated Raylan in Boone’s hat. That was not at all in keeping with Raylan’s character, and it made him look ridiculous.

I dunno. This series was so strong throughout its run; it seems like it coasted to the finish line and lost some quality late in the game.

This isn’t from any of the show runners or actors, so consider it apocryphal:

I understand the hat is closer to the one actually described by Leonard.

Maybe there were discussions between Leonard and the showrunners / producers about Raylan’s hat, but in the past Leonard was pretty specific about Raylan’s headgear. This is what he said on his blog before the show started:

“There appears to be movement toward getting a Raylan Givens TV series on cable. I’m all for it but they better get Raylan’s hat right this time … The real Raylan hat is what Elmore calls, ‘The Dallas Businessman’s Special’ - a felt city cowboy hat called the Stetson ‘Open Road’ - Accept no substitute.”

The hat Raylan wore throughout the series isn’t exactly like that, but it’s a fair sight closer than Boon’s.

Yes; after all the times over the years that Art put himself on the line to back up Raylan, it was nice to see that faith, er, Justified.

It was pretty much a wish-fulfillment ending for a lot of men, I’d say: you get to have your child’s love and respect–but at the same time you can tomcat around as much as you like.

What was with the yellow tag thingy on the brim of the hat?

I have to say I liked this final better than just about any other series I was really into.
No trite “everyone dies”, and it turns out you can in fact leave Harlan alive.

And then life goes on.

So where’s the money?

Raylan’s theory was that Wynn Duffy took it in exchange for helping Loretta escape.

Loved the finale. One of my favorite series finales. They did a great job of wrapping things up in a satisfying way. The dialog (and the acting) between Raylan and Boyd at the prison was fantastic. One thing I disliked: the farewell between Raylan and Rachel seemed out of step with their relationship in the series. There should have been something a little more significant there.

In my mind I will believe Loretta has it.

Ava - helping Ava escape.

We dug coal together.

That was as close to a happy ending as I could’ve hoped for.

Thanks. :o

Speaking of Loretta, i do wish we had gotten a glimpse of what she was up to in Harlan. Great ending either way though.
