"Justified" - new FX series - anyone watch?

There were several emotions playing across his face. If it was a smile, and I’m not convinced it was, it might almost have been a “Ooops, I didn’t mean to do that, but what the hell, ain’t no big thang” smile.

Couldn’t find it online, so I fired up the ol’ DVR and took another look. Here, with my compliments, is Raylan’s prayer, faithfully transcribed:

Dear Lord, before we eat this meal, we ask forgiveness for our sins - especially Boyd, who blew up a black church with a rocket launcher, and afterwards he shot his associate Jared Hale in the back of the head out on Tate Street Bridge. Let the image of Jared’s brain matter on that windshield not dampen our appetites, but may the knowledge of Boyd’s past sins help guide these men. May this food provide them with all the nourishment they need. But if it does not, may they find comfort in knowing that the United States Marshals Service is offering $50,000 to any individual providing information that’ll put Boyd back in prison. Cash or check, You can make it out to them or… to Jesus, whoever they want. In Your name, we pray. Amen.

No prelate has ever offered a better prayer.

Okay episode but someone watching for the first time might be confused about motives and relationships. And all those scruffy rednecks look alike – that doesn’t help.

And more bodies! Why didn’t Crowder leave those bodies in the vehicle? Seems like there’s more opportunity to leave evidence behind by removing them.

I didn’t like Winona looking for Raylan. Lost hair clip? Is she over him or not?

What did you guys think? Two episodes left. Showdown between daddys Crowder and Givens – it’s gonna get loud.

I agree this episode wasn’t the best, but have high hopes for the remainder of the season.

It got renewed, yes?

Yep. See post 214.

Boyd is full of shit on his conversion. Boyd makes Shane from the Shield look like a boy scout.

I think that Eva found the hair clip and that is why she is so angry at Raylan and the reason she thinks that Raylan wants her out of town.

And yes, Winona probably left the hair clip on purpose: to piss off other women. I’ve had women do this to me. It is very annoying. Usually earrings.

Us guys got it easy; we just pee on the rug to mark our territory.

I agree about dumping the bodies of the meth cookers. I figured they’d just torch the truck, given that the two shooters left their prints all over the back seat and doors.

I don’t think there was a hair clip at all. Winona was just dithering about talking to Raylan and made up an excuse; I think she still has a bit of a thing for him, given that she’s realized Gary’s such a dumbass. No matter how many problems they had in the past, she’s not immune to Raylan’s charms. He’s a man’s man; Gary certainly doesn’t compare.

If Ava had found another woman’s ANYTHING in Raylan’s room, she would confront him about it. She’s no shrinking violet. She’s upset that he’s dropped her and trying to get rid of her, which is understandable.

Okay, everybody raise your hand if you think either Eva or Winona add a damn thing to this show. Anybody?

Maybe I’m just too damn old, but I don’t see the need for a love interest in a show like Justified, let alone two love interests. Raylan can’t spend a month at home without getting some? And without even having to go look for it? Is that how it is for all you good-looking young men out there?

Rant over.

Is Arlo going to hang around and hope Crowder ends up dead, and he keeps the $20K? Or is he looking for a bigger score? I don’t know what it might be. Seems like staying alive should be enough. I like the character and hope he survives. I think he wants to impress Raylan, or at least do something to get Raylan’s approval and still be a man instead of a snitch.

Do you think Raylan has any suspicion that Arlo’s playing them? It sorta looked like he did, especially when Crowder made the comment about Eva. And speaking of Eva, would Crowder admit to being worried about her? If he cared about what she did, she’d be dead. I don’t think he cares.

I think Eva will wind up dead, but maybe it’s just wishful thinking.

Loved the sermon. That preacher better be careful or he’s gonna lose his pulpit.

Dammit, it’s** Ava**.

Next week is the season finale? Crap, they have a lot of plot threads streaming out there…

See, I told ya Winona still had a thing for Raylan!

:smack: I do know that. I don’t know why I decided to call her Ava. I’ve been saying Wynona instead of Winona as well.

They’ll be leaving some for season two, probably. But yeah, lots of stuff to deal with. I don’t know why they had to add the Miami connection at this late date. Maybe that’s all they’ll resolve – Miami will send some muscle and bullets will fly. The Miami guys will be dead but all the locals will survive for next season. They’ll have a bang-up finale without losing any major characters.

Me.

Not just for the prurient interest, but that is served well too. Winona was nakeder this episode than I’ve ever seen outside premium cable.

I fast-forwarded through that scene. I’m not a prude, but I’m starting to hate sex scenes, especially the ones that are just closeups of skin. I know how it’s done. I’ve seen it before. Why waste three or four minutes of the 42 you have when there’s so much story to tell?

I’m okay with seduction scenes though. Weird. Maybe it’s because Winona and Raylan were married, and previously married sex isn’t as interesting as getting to know you sex.

Hell, maybe I’m just jealous.

You are such a girl. heh. That’s okay; I’m such a guy.

Hell, she was more naked than she was on Hung last year, which is on HBO.

Last night I remembered where I’d seen Arlo before. He was Robert Duvall’s wise-ass Captain in Falling Down.

For me she either wasn’t naked enough or was too naked. I don’t like this half-way stuff.

IMO, this show gets better every week and is one of the best on TV.

I have finally caught up to the latest episode and I still love the show. I like how Boyd is a crazy vigilante for the Lord. Fire in the hole Returns!

AuntiePam, I am not sure I like the love triangle aspect of the show. But, I do think both Ava and Winona give Raylon well needed vulnerability. Not, just the emotional sort, but ways that the bad guys can get to him and actually frighten him. Threaten his body he is sure to talk his way out of it. Both of them are (sort of) civilians and if they are threatened he will be frightened. And, rush into action.

Speaking of sweet innocent women who need protectin’. How awesome was Ava wielding the shotgun at that bar? “I’ve shot one Crowder already…”

i’m no longer convinced that Boyd’s conversion is fakery, but he’s even more dangerous now with the ‘lord’ on his side - he gets to blow shit up in his name and all that …

“Boy, you’re about to meet your maker”

pricciar, good point, about Raylan’s women giving him some vulnerability. And I liked that Eva has a good reason for staying in Harlan, where she fits in and is comfortable (and where she’s the prettiest girl in town).

I didn’t like Eva with the shotgun though, confronting Crowder. If he doesn’t see you, he can ignore you. He doesn’t want to see her. She killed his boy and she’s out and about like nothing happened. That’d bug me too.
