"Justified" - new FX series - anyone watch?

Around these parts there will be several encores. FX shows are that way in general. IMDB may have the full list, but they do have the next few. Check here.

I had to stop watching long enough to find out where I had seen Page Kennedy before and I’m still not sure! I thought he might have been Malcolm-Jamal Warner and that bugged me too much.

Of course I recognized David Eigenberg immediately as Steve Brady from Sex and the City.

And Greg Cromer bears a reasonable resemblance to Tim DeKay from Carnivale and elsewhere.

I’m bad about that sort of thing and it pisses my wife off so much I have had to start stifling those impulses while we watch.

Anyway, I’m hooked on the show!

Ah, that makes more sense. I thought the escape fund was the $20K reward, and I was trying to figure how he’d live in Tahiti on $20K.

I wondered why Raylan decided to sleep with Eva, since presumably she’s still a witness. Maybe when he got shot, he decided life’s too short so what the heck.

Anyone else think the dark-haired woman in the cop shop – the one with the awful glasses – might be more important later? Looked like she was paying special attention to Raylan.

I agree, AuntiePam-the woman with the awful glasses grabbed the scene she was in -we’ll see more of her. Raylan is a basic guy, and has some vibe going with Ava. The cast actions aren’t linear as in other TV series; very Elmore Leonard.

Provably from Weeds. That’s were I remember him from since he was in multiple episodes. He played a thug pressing Nancy for something or other. I can’t exactly remember. What a name for a black guy though.

Thanks. Yes, I decided that was probably it. The name does lack that street cred factor, right? More cheerleadery.

I saw Hitman today. All kinds of awesome!

Just caught the third episode (with Pinter the snitch, the two guys and the waitress) and liked it. I didn’t see this coming: the black guy getting shot into the pool; but if I were the guy deeply in debt and had already been threatened several times by that guy, hell, I might’ve done the same.

I thought the black guy would do the shooting. I figured that is why he was pretending to practice the draw. I was surprised as well.Over all I thought this was a very solid installment.

BTW, anyone know if Raylan’s bald boss is THE U.S. Marshal for the Eastern District of Kentucky (that is, a presidential appointee), or a top deputy?

In my experience, THE Marshal of a district is rarely involved in law enforcement aspects of daily work, he/she is more administrative/political. The Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal oversees the daily law enforcement activities. In larger districts, there can even be an Assistant Chief Deputy. I’m guessing Raylan’s boss is either Chief Deputy or Assistant Chief Deputy.

Surly, who used to date a Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal (and has lots of cool swag to prove it.)

Same here, and like you I think I recognized Page from Weeds.

The one that bugged me most was the cop partner guy, who hadn’t looked familiar to me at all until one shot in this episode. And in that shot he looked really familiar, so it bugged me a lot.

Turns out that I know Jacob Pitts as Cooper from Eurotrip.

Another good episode. I’m not sure that the stories are all that realistic, but I sure like the characters. Were those two bad guys talking about Pulp Fiction?

Yep, that was very good. I liked that the mob accountant/dentist and his assistant really did seem to have an emotional connection. Raylan’s talking to the two hoods in their car was great (although that’s the second time this season he’s slipped unnoticed into the back seat of some bad guys). The standoff on the desert road was nice (although he’s gonna lose his badge if he keeps killing bad guys with no witnesses around to vouch for him that it was… you know).

I have similar feelings about *Castle *and *Bones *- I guess I don’t need realism *too *much.

Favorite dialogue from last night:

Raylan: Why’d you become a dentist, anyway?
Rolly (bleeding from stab wounds and under sniper fire): You’re gonna laugh.
Raylan: Is that really your biggest concern right now?

That’s one of the better ones, all right, but I stopped and rewound several times for the humor and just plain “fresh” dialog. I bet I replayed the gunfight with the two guys in the desert at least three times, probably more. That needs to be on YouTube (which I have yet to check for any clips from the show.)

I do believe Olyphant must have seen a few episodes of Gunsmoke along the way.

Ditto. This is a great show, dialogue is just fantastic.

Just for clarity, yes they were.

To the older Dopers who recognized the black vet who exchanged autos with the dentist…Clarence Williams the third, who was part of the Mod Squad, an undercover cop show that ran from 1968 to 1973.
