Justified, Season Five starts tonight!

Oops. Reviewed the thread. The man Boyd killed was a mortician and his wife was a doctor.

I actually thought Rappaport and Witt were fine ( dog-fixated psycho brother, not so much ). Smart was fine as well. They did a reasonable job with what they had, it’s just what they had was rather scattered. They would have worked a lot better as background over a couple of seasons, rather than a driving plot point in this one.

This wasn’t shitty TV, but it was much weaker than what has come before. The lack of focus bothers me almost as much as the weaker storylines. Or maybe it is all intertwined. Tighten it up guys!

She tried to blackmail Boyd, then got the tables turned so that not only didn’t she get the money, but she could no longer blackmail Boyd. But yeah, that seems like another thread that started but never really progressed, except that it kinda-sorta tied into the Ava nonsense.

Really? A juicy, high-visibility part on a top-rated show that only runs 13 episodes and he begged to be let off for better things?

Wow, David Carusos come in all colors, I guess.

I could see not wanting to be locked into multiple years of a long-season show, but tearing up the contract for what, 6 more episodes? Idiot.

From Executive Producer Graham Yost:

From DVD commentary on other cable network shows, I gather the pay scale is significantly less even for the principals than similar broadcast network shows, let alone single season recurring characters, and top-rated cable network shows still have tiny viewership. He’s got a movie currently filming, a movie slated to film in 2015, and two movies in post-production. He played a big role in X-Men: First Class, though he won’t be in any sequels. Lastly, not all actors are in it just for the biggest paycheck…many are, no doubt, but some prefer meaty roles and as long as they are not starving or under contract, they would rather do something they like. He likely got a nice paycheck from X-Men and a smaller but still impressive check from a short-lived ABC sitcom that he starred in.

Caruso was a bit different. That was a pure ego play. He would have been better off trying his hand at movies in the off-season and keeping his ‘day job’. He would have found out he’s really not leading man material on the big screen, and might have seen steadier employment between NYPD Blue and CSI:Miami.

Wait, are you telling me that an actor might be flaky and illogical? An actor?!!

I’m sorry they didn’t get to meet before Kendal goes back to Florida.

Oh, man. That had me talking to the screen.

I did think the writers did a good job of explaining Wendy’s lapse in intelligence in believing the “Kendal was the shooter” story: her brain had been short-circuited by her maternal guilt.

But by this point in the story she’d gotten her brain working again (enough to finally see that her son was being framed). So the “recording not transmitting, and be sure to tell your violent-toward-you-already brother that you’ve recorded him” plot development was really hard to take without a painfully-intense eye-roll.

I’m of the opinion that Wendy did all that just so she had an excuse to shoot Darryl and have it be justifiable self-defense. I think her earlier phone call with him was the final thing she needed to realize that, despite all his talk of, “family,” it was all about him, and that sooner or later he’d bring her and Kendall down.

I think it was pretty obvious that Raylan thought that was what was going to happen, too.

I finally got to watch the finale - basically this. This season was really just a half-season, setting up the final one. Took too long, but we have the main players set up for some troubling interactions

In another thread, I shared the fact that I was on the Justified set last year (during the filming of season 4 – more specifically, Season 4, Episode 7), and a couple folks wanted details so…

Basically, my friend’s husband entered a contest of sorts and donated an amount of money that got us the set visit. (I don’t know how much). We showed up around noon and left at about 2:30 a.m. - they were still filming! We saw three scenes being filmed and my overall takeaway was how much of a grind it is. It’s hard work for everyone involved. Tim Olyphant could not have been nicer - he’s such a cool guy and it’s just so obvious how much he cares about the show. We also got to be extras in a bar scene (the bar that he lived over last year), which was tons of fun.

I’d be happy to answer any questions should you Justified fans have any

Hey - thanks; I was the person who asked.

Who was the director when you were there? They use a lot of top folks. How many takes per scene? How much was “worked out as they filmed” vs. each take expected to be the same?

Greetings!

I am new to the show and new to this thread. I was just watching Episode 1 from Season 1 and about 18 minutes into the show, I heard that some lady was arrested for shooting dead some man with a 30-06 (a fairly high powered rifle).

I heard someone say words to the effect, “She shot him dead right through the heart.”

I then heard someone say that she was released ROR (Released on her own Recognizance).

I had always been under the impression that it was impossible for anyone accused of murder to be granted bail which is the only way I know of she could be released ROR.

Does anyone here know if I am mistaken? Is it possible this lady could be released ROR after being accused of murder?

You have to watch alot more of the show for that to make sense -

OK. I just finished watching the first episode and I can see how that could be the case.

Thanks very much.

P.S. I got a kick out of watching that lady shoot the rifle near the end of the episode. It seems pretty clear that she never could have shot anyone through the heart with a deer rifle based on what happened when she pulled the trigger in this episode. It was pretty funny.
