Kaboom! A Dynamite MMP

There is something about cats that just draws out the creeps that only want to do a drive-by crapping. One of the local newpaper columnists, a fine chap named Jon Carrol (just by coincidence, he printed much of a letter I’d written to him in a column earlier this week) has cats, and now and then, he writes about them. He’s one of those lucky/unlucky writers. The editor says “fill nine inches” and he wites up nine column inches of whatever he wants to write about to fit in his usual spot next to the society column and above a crossword. The curse of this is having to think up nine inches of prose, as compared to the news, business or sports guys that write about Today’s Topic, and have no regular set space to fill.

I wander…what was I writing about? Oh yeah, Jon and his cats. Whenever the mood strikes him to write about the cats, or even mention that he has cats, he disclaims it in the first graf - This is a cat column. Even doing that, people will still howl that he’s writing about cats.

No promises, but I’ve been rolling a few ideas around in the back of my head for leading off an MMP one of these weeks. I do at least promise it won’t be about cats, but I can guarantee there will be burlap.

Well, why don’t you take the plunge for Monday? I’m not aware of anyone volunteering yet - go for it! We’ve never had a burlap MMP!

all in favor of **gotti ** taking next week’s MMP

AYE!
all opposed?

gotti, it’s all yours

Damned straight–and turn down that noise you call music!

Many happy returns of the day, Telperien

And yay for picu

and that’s all folks–off to do more grad school stuff! (I don’t see spats working this hard). Put your back into it, Rifty!

I’m sitting here telling myself to work, but instead listening to some great Rebirth Brass Band music and knitting. A friend who adopted a baby last year of course found herself pregnant a few months later, but her adopted daughter is little but old enough to understand PRESENTS!, so it’s not fair to only send a gift for the baby this time, so I found this darling little guernsey sweater and cap pattern I’m knitting up for her. Of course, it’s going to be a size or two big for her now, but that’s okay, she can grow into it; better a bit big than too small. Knitting is a whole lot more fun than working, right? It’s certainly more enjoyable.

You put your lumbar in, you take your lumbar out - you do the hokey pokey and you turn your self inside out staying up until 3:30 AM working on a Mechanics assignment that you don’t even finish so you can oversleep the class when it’s due and keep working on it the next DAAAAYYYY!!!

And that’s what it’s all about.
:: goes back to work ::

Very well. Lay in a supply of calamine lotion - that burlap itches! :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m still at work. Some Bad Things happened to our data and my boss and I are trying to clean it up. Or would be if processes would run faster! Grrrrr!

I feel your pain. Full body massages all 'round! (watch it-nasty minded folk–family show here).

Greetings all! I had a long day at work, then came home and took a short nap. I woke up two and a half hours later. Should be fun to sleep tonight, since I have to be back at work tomorrow for the truck.

Happy Birth Day Tel !!

The Skyy is the limit today!

bobbio, cool article. I am practicing shaking my cane at those damn kids right now.

LiLi, lurkers don’t bother me. I am used to have weirdos stare at me.

SCL, my beagle monster had a tough time telling the difference between food and finger. I don’t know why people come to cat threads if they aren’t cat people. Unless they have met my cat.

spats, rigs, off to school you delinquents!

taxi, Something Bad? Did Ed Zotti’s python eat your hamsters, too?

Woo hoo! I am the thread killer! That’s why I like the MMP, it’s impossible to kill.

Happy Birthday, Tel!

I just realized that coding is kind of like ordering a drink at Starbucks. Ow, stop hitting! Be nice to the person that thought it was a step up to go from the amber monitor to the green, when every one else in the world was savoring the novelty of 256 bit color. And laser printing! I bet I could unjam a dot matrix printer faster than you could!

Those were the days. You couldn’t tell the mainframe to stop, you just had to run across the office to the printer, rip the printer muffler off, stop the printer, unjam it, reset it [put the printer down, Jahdra, don’t you dare throw it across the office again, even if that did make it work better or we’ll make you use the Printronix again (no number, it was just a Printronix)] and re-run the lost forms afterwards. Sometimes you got to do this 6 or 7 times in a row! And the forms were numbered and you had to account for every single form AND the mainframe assigned a number to the document that had to be voided in the system. And IT got pissed every single time it happened and would be glaring over your shoulder, demanding to know why you’re wasting the mainframe’s time. These were quintuplicate forms and labels would be generated immediately after the forms.

They finally got a server, so the dungeon could be used mostly for storage, instead of the rat-infested trailers. I’ve heard rumors that they actually got a laser printer for that particular job last year. They’ve finally made it into the 90s!

That was the office that had a copier that demanded sacrifices. It had its own sacrificial altar of granite and fresh flowers every day. If you didn’t make a sacrifice (a bent paperclip would do or even used chewing gum) the machine would refuse to work. If you made a sacrifice and a snarky remark about heathen copiers, the machine would refuse to work. You had to speak gently and kindly to it the entire time you were using it or else. The copier repairman, a frequent visitor to our office, always laughed and admitted that wasn’t the first sacrificial altar he’d seen for a copier. He made sacrifices, too, before working on it. I don’t think anyone coming into the office didn’t instantly recognize the altar for what it was.

Sorry, my brain has been doing a major data dump of the past 25+ years for the past week or so and it’s got to come out somewhere.

Yay number 1: Someone cancelled, and I was snuck in to see the school’s APN at 3PM today!

Yay number 2: Lots of antibiotics!

Problem number 1: This port is not delicious. The bottle was very pretty.

the solution to problem #1 is to consume the contents so as to get rid of it (I’ll bet it’ll taste better after the 5th or 6th glass  )

That’s just a literal translation of the English Bday song, not any real Spanish Bday song. I know several but this one is the most classic. Silly teachers!

I’m suddenly feeling extra grateful to the English teacher who taught us “We wish you a Merry Christmas” and “White Christmas” and some English verses to “Noche de Paz” (which I can’t remember what it’s called in English… the verses started with “holy night, silent night”). But Father Mendiburu never got around to teaching us the Lord’s Prayer in Cantonese (he did teach it to my little brother’s class).

I am in no way caught up, but I had a post ready to submit when they took my computer away in order to begin the demolition, and I have a couple of things to remark on before I read what you have been up to while I was in solitary confinement. Well, maybe not solitary, as my house has been full, but I have been in severe withdrawal from the Dope, and it hasn’t been any fun at all. :frowning:

The question which has been burning my brains all week is…why do we call chaoticbear donkey? Or is it one of those things I don’t wanna know?

No, puppyvalet, no booming involved in the demolition. A lot of banging and crashing and tearing, and gnashing of teeth, but no booms. Prolly that’s a good thing too, as I have had a constant headache from just the regular remodelling stuff.

So to update you all, walls have been removed, two more walls need to be removed and a new one built, the living room side of the wall will have a built in bookshelf, and the old, nasty forced air furnace needs to be removed. Carpet has been removed in the living room, the rest will come out this weekend. OMG it was soooo gross! The new heater has been installed and it’s toasty warm. It was installed last night, and my contractor friend goofed and ended up connecting one of the lines incorrectly and so it wasn’t only the heater that wasn’t working but I also had no hot water today. I need my shower when I get up, so I had skiffman start the banya at 8:00 am. The new water heater will be installed soon, and at that point I will have all new appliance type machines! I took a very short morning nap, during which time the tree guy came. Ooops, I think I forgot to tell you about the tree. It was a huge old growth Sitka spruce which was beginning to grow into the side of the arctic entry and the front deck. Anyway, the guy came, and I really wanted to watch the tree come down, as I love to make trees fall down, and find the scent of a chainsaw’s exhaust and that of a tree being sawn intoxicating. I guess I am in a hella flare, because he had to take the railing off the front deck to get at the tree, and then chain-sawed it down and I never heard a thing until it was all over. Darn! I did get my hot banya though, which was bliss, and we were able to keep most of the wood from the tree, so we have banya wood for the winter.

Happy Birthday Tel! I hope that you enjoyed your day.

I am gonna surf the board for a bit before I hit the hay, I am a very sleepy kaiwik. So I’ll see y’all in the morning. Nighty night Cool Kids!

Oh, check your email fcm!

Now that I have done a quick scan I must add my big yay to picu! Very good news.
I gotta go to bed…

5 days 14 hours 16 minutes till the puck drops.
It rained last night, with a little bit of thunder thrown in. The temperature is supposed to get down to 47 tonight, going to be fall like.

kai, Yah hot water and heat!

chaoticbear, what kind of port? I have always wanted to try some.

Jahdra An altar? I might have to try that. Don’t worry, 25 year mind dumps are what the MMP is for.

I used to be an MMP Cool Kid all the time, instead of like one thread a month, and I changed my username from chaoticdonkey to chaoticbear.

dogbutler, it’s this one here. (the ruby at the top of the page)

Unfortunately, I can’t pick what I get. I’ve sent the editor a list of the types of stuff I’m most knowledgable about, and another of things I absolutely abhor, and he will distribute CDs and DVDs based on his best guess of who would do a fair review of what he got in that day. [sarcastics]This system is working very well already. Yesterday I got a 90 minute DVD of electronica DJs.[/sarcastics]

Yay! Fried Egg!! Thanks be to Og! I have been entirely too busy this week. Topper is I must have lunch with Drama Queen Account Executive today at 1:00. Now there’s a real appetite stimulator. :stuck_out_tongue: She’s trying to be nice but GAH!!

kai, what is an “artic entry?”

Yay gotti for next week’s MMP.

nava, it’s called “Silent Night.”

jahdra, those dot-matrix printers were the devil’s contraptions. I think we still have a couple around my place of employment.

Must do the clip books I’ve been avoiding all week. I hate the clip books.
