Kamala Harris and the runup to the 2024 Presidential Election {No more on Guns}

I said to my wife, “I wonder if that’s a Trumpy cop or firefighter disrupting her speech.”

I haven’t seen this bandied about much, and I think this is important for her to really resonate: her inclusion means GOP voters are in the mix too. I’m absolutely convinced this would get through to at least a tiny amount of R. voters. Also convinced she’ll actually back those words during her four-year term.
A good amount of folk in red midwestern states will still bray about being left in the dust and ignored if Kamala wins, despite the very opposite would happen - it’s a President Trump who’d leave them in the dust.

Nitpickingly, Trump has somewhat achieved four years’ worth of holygraildom under his Big Mac-laden belt already. Then again, if he grailed-out again next week, it could be a more permanent kind of defecation on basically everything this time around, and thus a much more bigly achievement for him.

Kamalamen-ah, men-ah? (dee, dee, deeDEEdee)
Kamala Chameleon?

hey smooth America-as-giant-garbage can / protect our women segue

That whole, “our women,” “protected confident” yadda yadda. Pisses me off. No matter how they try to say it it’s all about dehumanizing, infantalizing women. The LP ad is also infuriating. Yeah, little woman is gonna’ vote the way I tell her. Infuriating because it’s probably true. Screw that.

Anybody seeing anything about Biden’s comments? The right wing media is all over it. He reacted to the Puerto Rico joke by saying “The only garbage are his supporters “. Now the Trumpist are saying that the Democrats think that they are all garbage. I know Biden is not running but I don’t want it to hurt Harris. I already regret going on right-wing media where Trump is winning the popular vote and every swing state.

He quickly corrected himself. He’s an old man who has always suffered from verbal gaffes. It won’t do anything to sway voters to Trump or away from Harris, imo. I feel like the MSM is picking up on it to keep the horserace going to the end. I mean right-wing media is gonna crow about anything Biden says wrong, but the MSM is just doing it to get clicks and look balanced on a day/week Trump is otherwise getting broiled.

Heh, RE: people seeing/not seeing presidential ads in their area.

I’ve seen a lot more ads for the presidential race in Dallas in this race than I have ever seen. In past years. I may have seen one or two all season, but recently in this year I’ve seen 2-3 in every newscast. Maybe it’s Harris’ campaign reaching, maybe it’s Trump’s campaign defending, but both parties seem to think they need to advertise in Texas this year. That’s a switch from the past, and that both parties want to advertise here gives me some hope in and of itself.

I’m confident, but not overly so. I think Harris can manage it, barring any gaffe by her or her team; and continued over the top racist insults from a warm-up act or subsequent speakers at a Trump rally.

I really enjoyed Harris’s remarks at the Ellipse tonight, mainly because they were so well structured. “Trump will do X, and here’s what it will mean for you and your family. It means that you will have to …” And she went onto to explain what Trump’s plan will mean for you, the individual American. Then she moved on to “Trump will do Y, and here’s what it will mean for you and your family …” Rinse and repeat. But in a good way; she brought Trump’s grandiose plans (such as they are), in which he never refers to individual Americans down to—well, individual Americans, and what it will mean for each one of them.

I am not American, so I have no say in the matter. But if I was an American fence-sitter, and caught even a part of Harris’s remarks tonight, I think I’d get off the fence. On Harris’s side of it. She was speaking to me, not to an ill-defined blob of people, as Trump does.

Weirdly, I’ve been thinking this was exactly the strategy the Harris-supporting PACs needed to do for a long time: remind the wives of Trumpist husbands that they can vote for whomever they want and no one will know.

Strangely, the Harris campaign has neglected to seek out my advice.

As far as content, it was quite a bit of repeat from the Democratic convention. This got more press, so more people have heard it this time. And she had plenty of practice speaking by now.

Bigger crowd too, from what I understand. God I hope she kicks his ass.

This is why she should go to Austin to be on the Joe Rogan show. No rally she can hold would allow her to deliver this message to so many potential new votes.

I’d like to ask a Trumpist feigning indignation over this comment exactly what they thought about Harris supporters. I doubt you would even get, “some of them are nice people, I’m sure.”

Another young woman dead because of the Trump SCOTUS and Republican state officials. I hope Kamala uses this story in the final days. Despicable.

Note that this death occurred in 2021. Also from the article:

Like all states, Texas has a committee of maternal health experts who review such deaths to recommend ways to prevent them, but the committee’s reports on individual cases are not public and members said they have not finished examining cases from 2021, the year Barnica died.

What in the hell has this committee been doing for the past three years? Are there so many of these cases that there’s a 3-year backlog? Maybe Harris can use that factoid as well.

To be honest this is the same energy we’ve had since she took over the ticket, everything else has been noise.

Is Virginia in play again?

Last night we watched about three hours of streaming tv. I counted no less than 38 political ads that we were subjected to in that time. Probably ~90% of them were negative ads. Easily three quarters of them were for the Senate race, with the remainder being Presidential ads. November 6 can’t get here fast enough. FTR we live in a swing state.

3400 voters apparently disenfranchised is bad. But not enough to swing the state unless it is VERY close.

The Rogan interview has 40 million views on YouTube. I don’t know how many on Spotify.

Rogan is not hostile towards guests and wouldn’t be hostile to Harris. It would be an extremely long life interview which isn’t her strong suit. The Trump interview was 3 hours long. Of course Harris would be held to a higher standard of lucidity than Trump. If she were as evasive with answers as Trump she would get crucified. She did do the Call Her Daddy podcast which gets massive views but that was a 45 minute interview.

The bottom line is that going forward candidates need to be skilled at navigating that space because that’s where the views are.

At the risk of starting a hijack (that I’ll defer to the experts if it belongs in its own thread or it just organically dies off here after a few posts) does this open up a shitstorm in other states to just start “purging” the voter rolls and use this ruling as cover?
