Kamala Harris and the runup to the 2024 Presidential Election {No more on Guns}

I was thinking about this this yesterday. Is Trump ever on time for any of his events? It seems like he’s late, and by hours, for everything. Even his MSG rally, which was supposed to be some kind of capstone of the campaign, he was apparently 2 hours late getting on stage.

If he can’t even organize his own rallies such that they run close to on-time, what’s he going to be like as president again?

Anulo mufa

Former Governor Arnold says he hates politics and doesn’t do endorsements, and dislikes both parties, but then says he’s voting for Kamala.

As non-endorsements go that’s a pretty strong endorsement. Or maybe it’s an anti-endorsement.

Thinking on this some … going on his show now, after Trump went on, gives her “the last word” with Rogan’s audience. That could be something.

Could Rogan host her last minute like this? Is his format loose enough so that if Harris said “I’ll go on tomorrow!”, he could accommodate her? I imagine he could – could perhaps even do two podcasts in one day if he so desired.

Or, OR Rogan should take her up on the invitation to come to HER to do his interview.

The AUDACITY of this man to say that the VP of the United States who is in the middle of an active campaign for president should re-arrange her schedule to come to him in Austin for an interview. Harris is not denying him a chance to meet with her. Rogan is rejecting the chance. He is not the one who get’s to say “jump” in this situation - he is the one who gets to say “how high?”

It may be worth it, but asking a candidate to dedicate three hours plus travel time to a state where she’s not competitive is an enormous ask at this point in the election. Every minute of Harris’ time is insanely valuable right now and she and her staff have to make hard decisions about how best to utilize it.

Not nearly. Biden won by over 10% of the Virginia popular vote in 2020. Quick and dirty math, looking at the 2020 results, suggest that about 240,000 voters would have to flip from voting Democratic to Republican to put Trump within striking distance of winning Virginia this time around.

Now, from the CNN article you linked: (my emphasis)

At issue are about 1,600 voter registrations that Virginia said came from self-identified noncitizens but that a US District Court said hadn’t been fully vetted for citizenship status.

As far as Virginia goes, this Supreme Court decision does not put the state back in play for Trump.

Trying to find that 3,400 number. Saw that in another article?

Of course he can. He owns everything including the land his studio is on. One of the big reasons why he moved the production to Austin. It was much more economical than doing the same thing in LA. He has control of when things are uploaded.

See above. He has an entire production studio set up. Audio, camera and staff. He’s not a roving reporter. He’s not going to sit down with his iPhone in some hotel room. Why would he? You want 40 million views on your interview you go to Austin. If you want to go on the Tonight Show you go to New York. The difference is only 2 million will see you on the Tonight Show.

You and @ZipperJJ have good points. FWIW, I don’t think she has anything to prove. Was just thinking the timing could work out for her if she already had the notion of going on his show.

I guess a video interview, for well less than three hours, is right out for Rogan? In other words, he wouldn’t take what he can get of Harris’ time - he’d consider attention via his podcast doing HER a favor?

In case anyone doesn’t read xits, here’s the full post:

I don’t really do endorsements. I’m not shy about sharing my views, but I hate politics and don’t trust most politicians.

I also understand that people want to hear from me because I am not just a celebrity, I am a former Republican Governor.

My time as Governor taught me to love policy and ignore politics. I’m proud of the work I did to help clean up our air, create jobs, balance the budget, make the biggest infrastructure investment in state history, and take power from the politicians and give it back to the people when it comes to our redistricting process and our primaries in California.

That’s policy. It requires working with the other side, not insulting them to win your next election, and I know it isn’t sexy to most people, but I love it when I can help make people’s lives better with policies, like I still do through my institute at USC, where we fight for clean air and stripping the power from the politicians who rig the system against the people.

Let me be honest with you: I don’t like either party right now. My Republicans have forgotten the beauty of the free market, driven up deficits, and rejected election results. Democrats aren’t any better at dealing with deficits, and I worry about their local policies hurting our cities with increased crime.

It is probably not a surprise that I hate politics more than ever, which, if you are a normal person who isn’t addicted to this crap, you probably understand.

I want to tune out.

But I can’t. Because rejecting the results of an election is as un-American as it gets. To someone like me who talks to people all over the world and still knows America is the shining city on a hill, calling America is a trash can for the world is so unpatriotic, it makes me furious.

And I will always be an American before I am a Republican.

That’s why, this week, I am voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.

I’m sharing it with all of you because I think there are a lot of you who feel like I do. You don’t recognize our country. And you are right to be furious.

For decades, we’ve talked about the national debt. For decades, we’ve talked about comprehensive immigration reform that secures the border while fixing our broken immigration system. And Washington does nothing.

The problems just keep rolling, and we all keep getting angrier, because the only people that benefit from problems aren’t you, the people. The only people that benefit from this crap are the politicians who prefer having talking points to win elections to the public service that will make Americans’ lives better.

It is a just game to them. But it is life for my fellow Americans. We should be pissed!

But a candidate who won’t respect your vote unless it is for him, a candidate who will send his followers to storm the Capitol while he watches with a Diet Coke, a candidate who has shown no ability to work to pass any policy besides a tax cut that helped his donors and other rich people like me but helped no one else else, a candidate who thinks Americans who disagree with him are the bigger enemies than China, Russia, or North Korea - that won’t solve our problems.

It will just be four more years of bullshit with no results that makes us angrier and angrier, more divided, and more hateful.

We need to close the door on this chapter of American history, and I know that former President Trump won’t do that. He will divide, he will insult, he will find new ways to be more un-American than he already has been, and we, the people, will get nothing but more anger.

That’s enough reason for me to share my vote with all of you. I want to move forward as a country, and even though I have plenty of disagreements with their platform, I think the only way to do that is with Harris and Walz.

Vote this week. Turn the page and put this junk behind us.

And even if you disagree with me, vote, because that’s what we do as Americans. http://vote.org

Quoting Arnie:

But crime is markedly down overall, including in “our cities”.

That’s an interesting comparison. I had no idea about the disparity.

Christopher Bouzy’s final Electoral College prediction comes out this evening. See above for his September 15th offering, where had Harris winning all battlegrounds plus winning Florida plus Iowa and Ohio being toss-ups.

Now then: September15 was several days after the Trump-Harris debate, maybe a day or two before FiveThirtyEight’s max forecast for Harris’ chances (64%). Now, I know Bouzy weighs and scores his inputs far differently than more famous aggregators like FiveThirtyEight, Nate Silver, and the NYT’s Nate Cohn. Still, I’m interested to see another “minority report” among the wide swath of prognosticators.

If I had to guess, and this would be 100% guess without anything to back it up, I think he would agree to an interview with a hard out time due to scheduling. If she came to his studio I would guess he would agree to do an hour and a half or something like that.

I’m seeing a decent number of presidential ads in blue Oregon and extremely blue Portland.

I don’t think either campaign has any illusions about flipping Oregon or Texas or some of the other reach states. It’s all about the down-ticket congressional races and getting out the vote for those. Trump won’t win OR, but get enough of his fans to the polls, and it might tip a contested House seat here.

Mmmm, no. I listen to podcasts where two people are in a hotel room and it’s fine. WITH VIDEO, even. One person is in their studio and the other is in Corfu and it’s fine. One person is in their apartment and the other is in their mom’s basement and it’s fine. The entire late night industry did interviews via Zoom for a year and it was fine (not better than the podcasts but still fine). In no way is “but he needs a studio” an excuse for being able to carry out an interview.

If you go to New York to be on the Tonight Show you can hit all of the other late shows, the Daily Show, all the news channels, plus campaign in Philly, New England, etc. You can pretty easily plan a packed campaign schedule around New York.

Heck, Colbert was supposed to be off the week of October 6th, the whole production shut down. Harris’s camp said “hey we have time for an interview the week of October 6th” and they put on an entire show because that’s when she could be there.

I think it’s incredibly audacious for him to ask her whole campaign to pivot to fit him in, when he could very easily find a way to speak to her on her own time, record and broadcast it.

They’re both flexing and neither is budging and from my perspective, he is dropping the ball.

As with his video shortly after Russia invaded Ukraine, Schwarzenegger proves himself to be intelligent, articulate and thoughtful. If even a third of Republicans were like him we wouldn’t be in this mess.

I know very little about Rogan, but I just googled him and now have the feeling that no one listening to his podcast would be persuadable to vote for Harris and Walz. He seems like a giant asshole and probably has deplorable fans. Those who are otherwise rational beings, probably already are in the Harris camp.
