Kamala Harris and the runup to the 2024 Presidential Election {No more on Guns}

(my emphasis)

Wait – did this happen? Rogan invited her on directly and publicly (as opposed to just saying something like “I’d love to have her on”)? I thought RickJay and Loach were just thinking out loud upthread.

How does interviewing Harris help him in any respect? It’s one single interview. It won’t gain him any subscribers or advertisers. I can’t think of a single thing.

The platform that pays him to post is Spotify. As far as I can tell, they don’t publish viewer numbers at all. The Trump YouTube episode is at 40 million views. His normal episodes are around 1-2 million usually. He’s put out over 2,000 episodes. It’s hard and maybe impossible to compile true numbers across all platforms for an episode. But it’s a lot.

She did do the Call Her Daddy podcast which is supposed to be the number 1 podcast with women and number 5 overall. Rogan is number 1 overall. It might be even harder to tell what the Call Her Daddy viewership was since it’s now on SiriusXM and they don’t release numbers.

Indeed.

Quoting myself.

Apparently, there have been discussions between Rogan’s camp and Harris’ campaign.

Rogan says he rejected Harris campaign’s interview conditions

“The Harris campaign has not passed on doing the podcast,” Rogan said in a post on X.

Podcast host Joe Rogan declined the Harris campaign’s offer to record an interview with Kamala Harris on Tuesday because he “would have had to travel to her and they only wanted to do an hour.”

But the interview isn’t off the table.

I have only voted for one Republican in my life and it was him.

I thought his whole thing was that he’s a really serious thinker that wants to know as much as he can through talking to a lot of people. He represents the “dumb guy” who gets a chance to learn all sorts of fascinating things by bringing all the top thinkers on to his show and really asking him the questions we’re all wondering too?

I’m not claiming that Rogan would financially benefit from Harris being on his show. I just thought that having both candidates would fit with his schtick.

Getting way out of my depth. From what I can tell he has a revenue sharing deal across multiple platforms. So basically he gets more money when he gets more views.

On the other hand he’s richer than god and has no reason to physically leave his little kingdom to just do an episode. He offered the platform to both candidates equally. It was up to them to accept or not.

If anyone thinks she would get attacked on Rogan they should go back and watch his Bernie Sanders interview from years back. In fact he claimed he was a Bernie voter. If she did do the Rogan interview I’m sure the tone would be friendly and the questions on the same level as the ones Trump got.

I don’t disagree with you there. I think he would do fine. And I actually appreciate the fact that he made a statement that they offered her an interview and she didn’t shut them down, she just didn’t have the time.

What I find disrespectful is that he thinks she should come to him.

I fully admit I am seeing this through Feminist Glasses but that’s where we are right now.

Yeah. Quick search old NYT headline:

Virginia Erroneously Purged Nearly 3,400 From State’s Voter Rolls

Nah. My brother is a die hard liberal and listens to Rogan. I know others like him. Hell, I’ll listen to some of his stuff from time to time. So far as I can find 20% of his “avid” fans voted Biden in 2020, and 52% Trump.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but podcast interviews via Zoom were perfected and have almost become the norm since the pandemic. There is zero reason why Rogan and Harris have to be in the same city.

Trump came to him and it went so long that Trump was very late to a rally. Everyone comes to him, men and women. That’s how he does it and he doesn’t have to change for anyone.

Yes, as I mentioned upthread, audio and video podcasts, late night shows, daily news shows, everyone has figured out how to professionally record remote audio and video by now.

And that’s where my distaste for the situation lies.

He offered both candidates to come on and do his show. His show is him sitting in his studio with an in person guest. If they can’t or won’t do his show no one is forcing them.

She sat down face to face with Charlemagne. She sat down face to face with Alex Cooper. If she wants to do Rogan there’s no reason why he should follow the campaign until she gets a moment. The show is in his studio. You want the exposure, go on the show.

Obama went and sat in Marc Maron’s garage, and he was the current president at the time. It’s not unreasonable to ask Harris to be interviewed under the same circumstances as Trump.

Rogan isn’t claiming that it’s not technically feasible. This is a straw man. It’s his fucking show and he sets the rules and they’re the same for everyone. Don’t like it, don’t go on Rogan.

I haven’t watched or listened to one minute of his podcast except for a very few short clips linked here or on reddit. I have no interest in him or his fans but now I’ve managed to find one sliver of a thing where I can defend him so thanks for that.

Remember the Governator wants a return to the classic pre-MAGA Republicanism. Is this his way of saying Harris is the closest we have to that? Because I’d agree with him.

I guess our opinions differ. During Covid I suffered through all the zoom interviews on shows. They sucked. I listen to a lot of podcasts. Everyone hated doing shows that way. No one wants to go back. I don’t blame any talk show host who doesn’t to work like that.

Doing an interview like that would probably hurt her more than not doing an interview. The headlines would read she was scared to do the interview the way Trump did.

The way the current landscape is you could do all those shows and throw in Gutfeld you would still get half the views one interview on Rogan would get. Late night tv just doesn’t get the ratings it used to.

I would expect nothing less from Colbert. He’s an unabashed Harris shill. His show is basically a hour long Harris campaign commercial. And there is nothing wrong with that except I think Kimmel does it much better.

I just looked it up. The Harris interview gave Colbert a big boost. Bigger than I thought. He went up to 2.9 million viewers. Not to be a broken record but Trump reached 40 million on YouTube alone without counting in all the other platforms it’s available on.

The landscape has changed. It’s continues to change as we speak. All candidates going forward have to get better at navigating this landscape because there has been an information paradigm shift. The old ways of reaching an audience are just not there anymore or have been greatly diminished.
