Kamala Harris and the runup to the 2024 Presidential Election {No more on Guns}

I completely disagree.

Yep. Just like Romey’s “binder full of women”.

The state did it wrong, just some software search of DMV records and 1600 pop up. None of the individuals were looked at from their record.

I think Joe would hate seeing Trump get reelected with every fiber of his being.

As I said, I believe that consciously he knows 100% that Trump getting in would be a terrible thing.

The unconscious is a different matter. Biden is human. Human beings don’t like being replaced. A reasonable feeling of dislike can come out in ways the replaced person doesn’t consciously intend.

I get that any suggestion that Biden could have said something that ended the ‘Trump’s MSG rally is angering and motivating voters’ storyline on purpose is divisive. And I didn’t say “on purpose,” nor imply it.

But I will stand by my beliefs that a) Biden is human, and b) humans don’t have full control over their unconscious impulses.

Nevermind the same analogy was mentioned further down the thread.

Well, I think that consciously, he IS above that. He has a very long reputation for being a decent person.

But again: he’s also human. Was his tendency to misspeak (‘gaffe’) activated by some unconscious wish that things were different—that he was the candidate, as he so clearly and strongly wanted to be? My personal guess is that this is possible.

Do any of us have any chance at all of knowing the truth of this? No: none. We have only our own beliefs about the matter. And those beliefs, obviously, will differ radically.

Relevant to the thread: the question of how long and how hard CNN, MSNBC, and the networks will work at getting Harris or someone close to her or part of her campaign, to express exasperation at Joe.

What would be lovely is if they would give it up after today and move on to something else—such as any days-later continuing effects of Trump’s Madison Square Garden hate fest, on the vote.

I wouldn’t want to bet that they’ll easily or quickly give up the hunt for an emotional soundbite, though.

I’d like to see some evidence backing that.

Assuming that you know what’s in somebody else’s unconscious is nearly always a bad idea.

Especially when you’re not their therapist, or one of their closest friends.

The claim that Biden secretly hates Harris (or vice versa) is put out by some Republicans. I don’t think there’s anything in it; even if the secret’s supposed to be being kept from themselves.

What? no, that is utterly insane.

I dont, and i doubt this.

They failed to check the box saying they were an American Citizen. Of course, they all are.

Does Harris want to win the election, or does she want to stand on some weird aristocratic principle? What’s the plan here, to pull rank or to win the goddamned election and keep a fascist out of the White House? Who’s working for whom anyway? What planet did I wake up on today?

If Harris goes to Rogan’s show she gets to speak to tens of millions of people. If she doesn’t, she doesn’t. If you’re more concerned about Joe Rogan’s audacity than Donald Trump’s evil, I don’t know what to say.

TRUMP IS PROBABLY WINNING. Harris needs to do whatever it takes.

It might be that what she’s doing instead will be better for the campaign. Not as many people will hear her but maybe more people who are persuadable. I’m not qualified to say.

Kamala is picking up endorsements from Republicans every dau. Trump has no Democrats endorsing him and people who did endorse him are taking it back.

Harris spoke to 75,000 people last night. Trump struggles to fill 10,000-seat arenas, with the crowd bailing out in droves while he talks, and then claims the attendence was several times higher than the building’s maximum capacity.

Harris is supported by Taylor Swift, Beyonce, and Bruce Springsteen. Trump is supported by Hulk Hogan, Kid Rock, and Dr. Phil.

Harris has laid out a comprehensive and articulate agenda. Trump says things that contradict each other whenever they pop into his mind and his campaign is built around rehashing old grievances.

And more importantly, Trump just pissed off a major demographic that represents nearly a fifth of the US population and is constitutionally incapable of fixing it.

Trump isn’t winning. It won’t even be close.

All of what you say is true… and yet, somehow it’s still close.

Is any of that changing the polls? Nope.

You’re explaining why he shouldn’t win. I agree. Irrelevant as to whether he WILL win, though.

Which brings us to the logical conclusion that the polls are wrong, because they are blatantly incompatible with observable reality.

Assuming we’re not trapped in a reality-warping field.

My frustration is they could be wrong in either direction, and the consequences are so scary.

I’m in blue Chicago, and I know a disturbing amount of Trumpists. My reality is that it is a Trump world out there, if even here it’s that visible. I hope you are right, but I doubt the polls are far off, and I expect a tight race.

In 2020 Trump got 558,000 votes in Cook County - roughly equivalent to the entire population of Wyoming.

He still lost.
