Kamala Harris and the runup to the 2024 Presidential Election {No more on Guns}

Just picking out this one point in an excellent post: ISTM that ‘old grievances’ is what his audience largely wants to hear - along with all the ‘clever’ insults that stick it to the libs!

So as a campaign strategy, it probably keeps the base happy. Meaning that making any inroads from the Democratic party by offering thoughtful policy positions is going to be tough.

You know sometime before the recent garbage dust-up trump called Harris supporters, “Absolute garbage.” I don’t know precisely where and when, but I saw a clip of trump the garbage spewer, on The Last Word tonight. That doesn’t include the truely disgusting things he and his clown show have calle Kamala Harris, and anyone associated with or supporting her. Biden didn’t call people garbage trump and his creeps did. And they blithely get away with it.

I don’t think that’s true. Biden is not a malicious person consciously or not. He was attempting to say that “comedian” was spewing garbage.

Daily Kos has you covered.

That’s really helpful, but that’s nothing compared to the gem from Tucker Carlson further down in the article.

It’s embedded in a Xitter post but for those who abstain, Carlson is saying:

…yeah… :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Jeez, Tucker. Nothing like middle school insults. Hey, just try a little harder in Phys. Ed. and you might get passed into the eighth grade.

The polls are “fixed” to match the registered voters. They should all just summarize that “it will be close” and move on to polling 2026. Any other conclusion and they lose credibility.

As far as the candidates, they both focus on voters showing up. Kamala could use a good stunt.

Moderating:

Please pay attention to the mod notes in threads. There’s one just 7 posts above yours by me that directs posters to take polls discussion to a more appropriate thread. I’m going to assume you missed it, but for the second time, please leave off discussion of polls in this thread.

In July, Bouzy confidently predicted that if Biden dropped out of the race, Trump would easily win, 327-211. As he based this prediction on, as near as I can tell, no actual objective evidence at all, I am dubious of his methods.

it looks like there will be harris rally in phila. on election eve. in 2016 i went to the one that hillary had at independence hall. i for sure thought she would win.

this time the rally will be at the art museum… i’m just not as confident this time.

i am putting my trust in a few things that give me hope. sadly i have seen people in this country do so many things that are against the best interests of themselves and others to have any confidence.

Thanks!

Mr. “Testicle Tanning” doesn’t have a lot of room to display his obsession with gay men without causing the kind of conclusions he won’t like.

I agree with both those remarks (with the demurral that no one’s subconscious can be fully known, by themselves or by others).

I think it’s fair to ask, though: what is the politically astute way to use the word “garbage” about a human being?

To those outraged about my suggestion that Biden may have had unconscious impulses that led him to speak unwisely: I get that you’re outraged, as well as certain that you have full knowledge of Biden’s unconscious mind. I get also that you believe that noting that Biden may not be fully in control of his unconscious mind, is equivalent to saying that he consciously hates Harris (as the Republicans love to claim). I don’t think either of those is true or useful. But I don’t see any point in arguing it further.

Given that every accusation from the right is a confession, I’m wondering if there’s more than just rumors circulating out there that, despite his childhood protestation, JD Vance does want to suck dicks? He certainly seems to hate women and being a father.

I mean, maybe he’s not gay but he certainly seems gay. I don’t have any evidence but he looks super gay to me. And the right love to accuse Biden of what Trump is guilty of, so…

Of course I’m not certain of that. I’m only certain that you’re not certain of it either.

What you said was

You didn’t say that maybe he might. You said that he definitely would. That would require that you have full knowledge of Biden’s unconscious mind; which strikes me as extraordinarily unlikely.

What a ya gonna say to your grandma?

It also ignores the fact that Biden is 81 years old, and was facing the possibility of losing to Trump, and having everything he’d ever worked for in his life utterly trashed by an unseemly brute. You get to a point in your life where you’d like to set your burdens down, but fear that no one else will pick them up. I saw that with my own father before he passed away.

I have no doubt that Biden is genuinely pleased that Harris stepped up so well to take his place, and that so many people stepped up to support her. He finally sees a chance to let things go, secure in the hands of a decent heir.

Yeah, the last thing Biden wants is to have to attend Trump’s second ::shudder:: inauguration. If, instead, he can smile and hug President Harris while Trump possibly sits in prison (sentencing in New York is after the election), that’s pretty much perfection.

It’s indeed plausible; there’s that discussion with his grandmother when he was a kid, the reference to it in his memoir, and, as you note, he has a view of women as mere functionaries; unlike Trump, Vance doesn’t seem to have any sexual interest in women. If his wife hews to her cultural roots, then she may also view their marriage as one of practicality instead of passion.

And it puts his relationship with Peter Thiel in a new light. Thiel is usually credited with being his benefactor, who has promoted his career since law school.

Thiel is not only gay, but he was closeted, and in a marriage, before he was outed by Gawker and then spent millions to bankrupt them (by way of Hulk Hogan, of all people; I’m sure conversations at the GOP convention were fun).

Oh, aren’t they always?

I’m feeling a little better about Harris’s chances now, but it’s still too damn close.

Maybe “deplorable” was a better choice.

Tony “the Mooch” Scaramucci is the latest former Trump flunky to endorse Harris.
