Kamala Harris and the runup to the 2024 Presidential Election {No more on Guns}

Well, they can always have Trump on next week.

And it’s likely fair to say that X is now Putin’s tool.

Oligarchs gotta stick together.

It’s a reasonable argument, but not workable in an Internet world. I mean, it’s possible to hold news to a mere 30 minutes each 24 hours (and an authoritarian government might well decree such a thing). But if the Internet is available, people are going to be seeing news-related content (if not actual news) all through those 24 hours. And the siloing would remain.

I’ll go for that.

I’d love to see Fox be forced to give equal time to Democrats. Too bad the FCC abolished the Fairness Doctrine when Reagan was President.

First Gent Doug.

Fucking killed it. And the line about “you are the only person who can say Beyonce opened for you” is one of those ‘hahahaha…oh wait, that’s probably actually true!’ moments. Also, Kamala reacting to the crowd seeing her and going ballistic was cute. I don’t read lips very well, but I’m pretty sure she mouthed “What is happening?” Overall an A+ in my book.

hopefully more than mere optimism

Can’t wait to find out!

Thanks!

Not to mention, you can stare at him for hours but he probably won’t do anything.

NBC gave Trump ‘equal time’ during the airing of a NASCAR event:

Topline NBC aired a message from former President Donald Trump during Sunday’s broadcast of a NASCAR race and an NFL game, after FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr criticized Vice President Kamala Harris’ appearance on “Saturday Night Live” and accused the network of trying to evade an FCC rule requiring broadcasters to give rival candidates equal air time if they want it.

From the article:

[A] video message from the former president aired right after the end of Sunday’s NASCAR playoff race…

If only they’d broadcast the message right as the cars were about to cross the finish line! :smiling_imp:

I’d like to go on record that Harris has run a nearly flawless campaign – I can’t think of a single big mistake. Before Biden dropped out, there was never a hint that she was trying to undercut him, or push him out, or even prepare in case he did drop out… but inevitably she must have been, considering how smooth the rollout was. That means there was incredible discipline from the very top – no one leaked that Harris was getting ready in case Biden dropped out. And ever since, it’s just been an incredibly disciplined campaign – no missteps of any consequence. She was right about Walz – he is a very talented communicator and has a uniquely charming personality, and meshes very well with Harris.

Considering the dozens of flubs and weirdness from Trump, if she loses this will be a strong case that campaigns don’t really matter. I think she’ll win comfortably and her campaign will be praised as one of the best ever.

Not only that - the reason her campaign has gone so well is because she was already well-advanced in her preparations for an expected 2028 campaign including lining up solid support within the Democratic Party, which is why when Biden did drop out there was very little of the usual chaos that would normally ensue.

I’ve never really mentioned that I liked that the “b-b-but she didn’t receive one single vote!” MAGA talking point never seemed to get discussed much here (that told me that that talking point was hopefully not going to get much traction with the fence-sitters out there).

My reaction that has always been: if you can show me a single Democrat who is concerned about the way Harris was chosen, I will clutch my pearls appropriately. But until then…

She got the same amount of votes Biden did, as part of the same ticket. It was never more than a ridiculous right wing talking point, on the level of “she ain’t black” or “she didn’t work at mcdonalds”.

My idiot ex-best-friend brought that forth as his first and main talking point as soon as she got in the race. I keep wondering if it will be used as an excuse for the heaps of “election fraud!” issues we’ll see coming forward.

But, I mean, if she was on the general election ballot and we all voted for her, isn’t that the end of that plot line?

Even more importantly, she had the required number of delegates.

In the final Marist poll of likely voters, Kamala is up 51-47%

I just talked to someone today who said he was feeling “nauseous optimism”. That sounds right.
