Kamala Harris and the runup to the 2024 Presidential Election {No more on Guns}

Oh yeah…

And that’s why a great debater does not make themselves look good, they make their opponent look bad.

yes, it was “please proceed, govenor…” i actually yelled “trap” “traaaap!!” at the tv. romney fell into the trap.

were i giving advice for the debate, i would just say, answer the question and listen to what the other person says. loading up on facts and figures is not going to work with trump. people don’t tune for that. they tune into to see how you come across, do you speak to them. telling them statistics isn’t what moves them when they believe the statistic isn’t real in their life. go with feelings over cold facts.

There’s also the issue that lots of people don’t understand statistics. They think they have a 50/50 chance to win the lottery since there are only two outcomes: win or lose. Telling someone like that a stat about how an economic indicator rose by 20% is useless.

not really a particularly interesting piece, but that headline

It took me a bit to process it.

Yeah.

Democrats, astonishingly, fell in love and in line.

brilliant headline!

i have gone from being nauseated about the election outcome to hopeful and yep, a bit joyful.

How wrecked are we gonna be if she loses? I mean, I was a mess in 2016 (as were probably every one of us), but I didn’t feel a third of the excitement I feel for Clinton-Kaine as I do for Harris-Walz. I felt motivated to keep Trump out in 2016, but now I feel hyper-motivated to get Harris-Walz in.

But in 2016 I really didn’t think it was possible Trump would win. Now I do. I think that will mitigate some of the horror if it passes.

I liked the 2016 Clinton, but I thought she was a lock to win. So, more of a shock than if Harris loses this time, but I think this loss would be worse overall.

Harris Walz are fantastic. Trump went from terrible to so much worse over the past 8 years. If Trump is elected, I will be much more angry at the voters than I was in 2016.

From last night, “A vote for Harris doesn’t make you a Democrat, it makes you a patriot.” If that doesn’t carry the day, we’re screwed.

Strong hijack potential hidden as also ignore modnote from earlier.

Ms Clinton was too entrenched and too arrogant, but, more importantly, Tim Kaine was a cypher. If you asked 500 people who Ms Clinton’s running mate in '16 was, maybe 3 of them would remember. But probably not even that many. Walz is very likeable and popular and seems to almost cleave to Ms Harris all the time. And she acts like she is proud of him in a way that is very much not like the apparent placeholder role that Kaine had.

Kaine was a “who?” from the moment he was picked. I don’t remember anything about him, other than that he was her VP choice.

Walz has firmly established who he is and what he stands for, in his speeches and in his past history.

Even if Trump wins, I’ll remember Walz; he won’t be a “who?” trivia question.

@eschereal, that is a very iffy post. I won’t ban you from the thread, but I thought about it. I’m just going to hide your entire post.

Moderating

Do not rehash Hillary Clinton’s 2016 run in this thread.

Not only is such rehashing a distracting waste of time on a beaten-to-death topic, it indulges in the futility of Clemenceau’s observation: that “generals always prepare to fight the last war” – which, it appears, Trump/Vance are enmeshed in doing. Meanwhile, Harris/Walz have, yes, taken note of the lessons of the last two election cycles but are proceeding with a campaign focused on this time, this war. It’s one reason why “We’re not going back” is such a powerful slogan.

New poll showing Harris up by 6% overall with RFK in and 4% with him out.

No state details sadly.

An NC poll has Harris up by 1%

But what’s happening in Pennsylvania? That’s the one to watch. Last I checked, Trump was up by a slim margin there.

Yes, thank you for stating the obvious. I specifically wrote

Weird you chose not to quote that.

I posted the most recent Pennsy polls a few days ago, nothing newer yet. It is frighteningly close right now.
