Well, given the detailed economic policy Trump has put forth they should feel pretty happy with their choices …./s
More bizarre pandering from the Harris campaign. “Protect cryptocurrency investments so that Black men who make them know their money is safe.” First, no investment should be protected. Second, cryptocurrency is the last thing that should be promoted in any way, shape, and form.
Searched for this and found only a single Tom Schmidt tweet. What’s your source?
EDIT: Here’s something, but the cryptocurrency initiative is not specific to Black men:
Thanks for providing the cite. Since she tweeted am image, I see why the text search of her third item didn’t yield anything.
I had to look three times to find where I had seen it as an actual link and not an image just to check that it wasn’t a fake.
With the clock running down and the pressure on, I feel like she’s reverting to the habits that helped doom her 2020 campaign. Oddly specific proposals. Rambling answers that don’t say much. I don’t think it’ll move the needle much against her but I’m not sure it’ll help her pick up unlikely voters.
I’m not the target audience, but the crypto and the marijuana agenda items have me scratching my head. I’m not sure those are the things that would attract Black voters. They seem like good agenda items in general that would appeal to everyone. I’m sure everyone wants their crypto to be safe and be able to run marijuana businesses if they like. The first two about Black entrepreneurs and teachers seems like something both Black men and women would like. I’m not sure why these 4 items were listed in the Black Men agenda. The only one that seems relevant to Black Men is the one for health issues. It seems like they added some filler since they didn’t want a list with just one item. As everyone knows, you need at least three items to make a list (Hi, Opal!).
You have to keep in mind there is a very small portion of the population that is still undecided. Harris main task at this point is to reach those people. I can certainly see crypto bros or pot users among the people who don’t really care about or pay attention to government, but care deeply about their pet issue.
Keep in mind, it’s not Harris herself who is posting that. She and her advisers decide to take a position on crypto and pot, and separately have a plan to target Black voters. And some staffer puts those together in a very clunky policy statement. No one actually sat down and said “we need to target Black male crypto investors.”
The same way “Black Lives Matter” is specifically about Black people and not only about them.
Analysis conducted by the ACLU shows that due to racial profiling and bias in marijuana enforcement, Black people are 3.6 times more likely than white people to be arrested for marijuana possession, despite similar usage rates. This disparity has not improved over the last decade, and in fact, disparities have actually worsened in most states.
Bolding mine.
Being arrested really upends one’s life, and your family’s lives. And the consequences can spiral out of control very quickly. Especially when you’re a low income family, which is about 15% of Black families compared to 7% of white families.
So, marijuana laws and the enforcement thereof have really fucked over Black families in the US. If we’re going to see legal recreational cannabis as the Next Big Thing in the US economy, it would be nice to see Black people getting a sizeable piece of that pie.
I’m no expert, but the premise appears to be that traditional finance orgs (banks) have been difficult for Blacks to get access. The gates to lending and saving are slanted in favor of generational wealth, and screening for loans and mortgages is slanted against them.
I’m keep hearing how cryptocurrencies democratize saving, because it doesn’t have those gates to obtain. Something like 25% of Black men own cryptocurrency, versus IIRC 13% of white men.
So there is a slight but definite market skew toward Black men, which makes it a target to reach out to them.
But it’s pretty ham-handed to phrase it that way.
My problem with it is less the weird phrasing towards black men and more that I don’t want the government to do anything with crypto. I don’t care if you get scammed out of your fake asset.
I was out on my daily walk and saw a new neighborhood sign. It had some red on it and as I neared I assumed it was yet another Trumper, but instead it was a “Hate Won’t Make Us Great” sign using Shepard Fairey artwork for Obama, Trump, Biden and Harris. I quite liked it.
Fox News’ hosts are praising Harris’ performance in the Bret Baier interview, which means someone is gonna need his diaper changed and the ketchup cleaned off the wall.
Thanks for posting those reactions; I’ve become gunshy about reading takes, and it’s good to know she did well.
You can watch the whole thing here:
I just watched a little bit but enough to get a feel.
Nothing serves you better than being in an obviously hostile attack interview and coming off strong, smart, and in command. His interruptions only helped her come off stronger.
And this will get seen by folk who only watch Fox, and that as background noise most of the time. Some of the unengaged. Her strong disapproval will come down by this. A few less voting against her. That’s important.
Seconded.
And “tagging” @SuntanLotion for reference.
Thank you. I did a search on Vp Harris runup.
Naturally, some magas are saying she utterly failed.
This board is where I get the straight dope.
Harris did well with the Fox interview, especially considering that Baier was intent on only asking “gotcha” questions. I’m still feeling crawly after intentionally tuning into Fox to watch it. And the first thing I saw when I went to the channel was - I kid you not - an ad for My Pillow with that lunatic. I thought he went bankrupt?
