Kansas City Dopefest II (This time, bring clothes.)

OK is it just me or were we thinking about going on a Sunday? The Manny’s link says they are open Monday through Saturday. Otherwise it looks great to me.

Hey, I could get to Manny’s no problem…but I think MamaHen is right.

Somewhere on the Plaza would be cool. How about the Cheesecake Factory? It’s got plenty of outside seating, and plenty of nice things to eat.

Another place that might be fun is Bucca de Beppo (I think I spelled that wrong), it’s Italian, and they serve huge portions–you have to get three or four people to agree to something to order it. I think it has outside seating, too. And their desserts are soooooo yummy.

Is there any good Greek food in Kansas City? Haven’t had hardly any since I was last in Chicago. What about Korean food? I became fond of it while in the service.

Actually, I never met a cuisine I didn’t like. I’ll go with the flow as to where we eat, if it does end up being in a restaurant. But I’ll pout that I can’t bring a dessert. Maybe we could eat in and then go somewhere else, like a park? I’m going to miss SkipMagic’s Spooky Mansion. I wanted another look at the fabulous grapevine. Folks, it was fantastic!

See, you people just have to bring the details of Manny’s lack of Sunday hours, didn’t you? We almost had a consensus going, too.

Huh.

Mirror Image egamI rorriM has an excellent idea: how about the Plaza? There are plenty of restaurants (from the bourgeoisie inexpensive to the fat-cat pecunious), and a good number of them offer outside seating. I suggest that we don’t go too rich (in money–if we go too rich in food, then I’ll be a happy gander) because it’d be nice for everyone to be able to afford to order food, but I think the Plaza’s offerings can work with us. Plus, it’s easy to find.

And I won’t say one single word about the vast number of young women in skimpy clothing hanging out there during the summertime. Not one. Word.

Nada.

Can everyone make it to the Plaza?

By the way, Mirror Image egamI rorriM, I visited Bucca de Beppo for the first time this past December. It was pretty fun–and it was almost built like an underground maze. I kept meeting new people with each turn because I couldn’t find my way back to the dinner table. Mine, that is. I found everyone else’s dinner table just fine.

Oh yeah, Baker, the grapes I never managed to harvest. That will not happen this year, I promise!

Kids, Baker’s desserts are wonderful! Last year she left a whole chocolate pie in my fridge. Which was polished off in a day or so… (the pie, not the fridge)

Chocolate pies are much more important than grapes, anyhow.

Actually, there’s a park right across the street from the Plaza. Heck, even Brush Creek has shaped up rather nicely. So, if you want to bring a dessert (please!), I encourage it. And the rest of you should also encourage it–your taste buds will love you forever.

So do we have to figure on a new date, or is it still the 27th?

It seems like all the people that have replied concerning that date are able to make it then, so I think it’s the 27th still.

If anyone disagrees, please chime in!

The park across the street from the Plaza is Mill Creek Park. We could have a little dessert picnic-party with whatever lovely thing Baker wants to bring while we gaze on the lovely J.C. Nichols Fountain.

Sounds good to me!

Anything sounds good to me (BTW there is GREAT Greek in Mirror Image’s neighborhood-Tasso’s in Waldo. Im all for Bucca de Beppo’s, but if it came down to it I’d veto Cheesecake Factory(unless im alone in it) And I will double check on the 27th. Sorry to keep everyone waiting (if you are indeed waiting for me)

I’m all up in the Plaza Plan! (I don’t suppose anyone’s up for FONDUUUUUUUUUUUE? No? Damn. Well, OK then.)

And I don’t want to impinge upon Baker’s spectacular dessert offering, but I’m completely enamoured of this key lime pie recipe I tried a few weeks ago, and would love to bring one or two of those bad boys!

I won’t be able to compete with The Master (Baker), of course, but I’ve been dying for another excuse to make the KLP again.

Holy crap! I was going to suggest that fonude place!

I second it.

Well, Mirror Image egamI rorriM, in light of the fact that the OP clearly states that we must bring clothes, I’m guessing the “fonude” place is out.

I’d be up for it, but I’m aware that not everyone loves fondue, and that place isn’t particularly cheap . . .

Admit it, you just want to laugh at my impatience with the cooking and then eating one morsel of food at a time. That’s why you want the fondue place–not because of the food. At least not anymore.

And eating fondue while naked? Can we say, “Drip-Drip-Ouch! Damn!”

Ok, so no fondue. And no fonude, either.

::bump::

So it sounds like we’re looking at July 27th, at a resturant at the Plaza, possibly adjourning to Mill Creek Park afterwards for desserts.

Anybody have a list of resturants there?

Here is a pretty good list. I took out the places that were food stores or tiny little cafes. It might be missing something, I don’t know how recent this is.

I went to Eden’s Alley (I think is the name) in the basement of the Unitarian church today. It was phenominal, literraly the best food Ive had on the plaza, and it didnt hurt that it was all vegetarian.

Hadn’t checked this thread in awhile. I got scared that the 27th was the night of Counting Crows but that’s the 28th. So we’re doing this on a Sunday night?

And hey! Another Lawrence doper. I thought I was the only one. And here you are having been here longer than I have. That’ll learn me.

And…you know, teach me how to actually use proper grammatical structure within a sentence.

The Unitarian church by the Art Institute and the Nelson?

nah, the one on Jefferson
