Hey, did anybody invite Spectrum?
I just read one of his posts during the battle of the SallyStar and he really knows his Russian History.
Oh, and he’s in Lawrence.
Hey, did anybody invite Spectrum?
I just read one of his posts during the battle of the SallyStar and he really knows his Russian History.
Oh, and he’s in Lawrence.
Count me out, kids.
With the combo of working and sickness, I’ll be sleeping this weekend.
I’ll miss you. Send pictures.
So California Pizza Kitchen on Saturday, and the museum afterwards? If that’s right, count me in.
I’m working on proper directions now. Directions will be posted here, the UnaBoard and KC_Dopefest livejournal community.
I did send an e-mail out to spectrum, Hey You!, but I haven’t heard back yet.
As for the Doper count, Baker, only a few have replied. I’m going to send another round of e-mails out tonight to those who have expressed interest. Also, in answer to your e-mail, yes, the motel is easy to find. Just make sure you get off on exit 16 in Liberty. You shouldn’t have any problem seeing it from there; it’s right next to I-35.
As for where to meet at the museum: I say we meet on the giant stone steps facing that vast expanse of green yard. (The yard and the steps appear in this picture.)
Sorry you can’t make it, FilmGeek! It would have been great to have met you.
Okay, I was going to write directions for every possible way to every event for this weekend, but decided against that. Mostly because that wouldn’t work out so well, what with the numerous areas from which people would arrive.
Instead, here are the addresses for each of the events. What you should do is use MapQuest to get proper, step-by-step directions. If you have any problems using MapQuest, I’ll be happy to help you out or input your directions for you. Just be sure to send me an e-mail with your address info.

(Shawnee Mission Park has two entrances: one on 87th street and the one above on Renner Road. Please use the Renner Road entrance–it should be easier.)
When I send out e-mails tonight, I’ll be sure to also send out my cell phone in case someone gets lost.
And as a reminder: if you’re going to attend any of the meal sessions, please send me an e-mail to let me know the number of people you’re bringing (including yourself) for each event you’re attending. I’ll need these to make reservations.
Thanks, SkipMagic. I’ll be there for the shrimp in the evening at least, and I want to be there for the pizza, but am not sure about that one. Will email if it becomes sure one way or another.
Here’s a quick-and-dirty account of who’s going to be coming to which meal. If I need to make corrections, please let me know. The list includes the Dopers who expressed an interest in coming to the 'fest. If I missed someone, please remember–as has been said before–I’m stupid. Take no offense at your exclusion–but let me know so I can add you in!
Damn. Here’s that link.
BTW, at the shrimp place I plan on volunteering as a designated driver, should anyone want to make use of me.
Hmm, that doesn’t sound quite like I intended it to. Anyway, I like beer and all, but in a busy area unfamiliar to some, and after dark, I don’t want to take chances. Let’s not have a good time get screwed up.
Got a body count yet SkipMagic? **sperfur ** and I will have a room at a Motel 6 towards the airport. If a fellow Doper needs to crash a while in order to be safe, I’ll sneek you in.
Da’ body count thus far remains unchanged from my last post. Which is good, 'cause it means no one has died on us yet.
Howdy!
Okay, here’s the deal: the Johnson County Park administration called late yesterday to let me know that, oops, they made a boo-boo when it came to reserving the shelter on Sunday. Turns out that the entire park is closed until noon that day (some sort of giant event is being held); a fact that,of course, they failed to mention when I called. Now, the good thing is that we can still have the picnic, but it needs to be moved up to noon-o’clock. We then have the shelter until 2:30 because another group gets it at 3:00 (all other shelters for the park are reserved for that day-so I couldn’t change).
Once 2:30 rolls around, don’t think we have to leave the park–not by any means. In fact, there are plenty of shady, grassy areas we can hang out in should people want to stay (after all, the park is huge). And don’t forget, nearby where we are, there will be that Nature Trail. I know I’m up for the “hike”, so I hope some–if not all–of you will join me.
So, the plan for Sunday is this:
Show up at Shelter 11 at 12:00 instead of 11:00. We’ll be cooking hot-dogs, chips and hamburgers (standard picnic fare), and we’ll be eating anything else people want to bring along.
By the way, officially there is no alcohol allowed in the park; however, if you do bring some, just make sure you don’t get so drunk that you end up molesting a chipmunk or something. I mean, when deciding an action to take, make sure to ask yourself: is it good for the chimpunks?
I sent everyone an e-mail in case you don’t catch the thread update.
If you have any questions, please let me know.
Thanks,
SkipMagic
Yay! Sneeks!
Baker, I would like to utilize your driving services Saturday night. We can figure out the details when we check into the room.
The California Pizza Kitchen doesn’t accept reservations, but they shouldn’t have a problem accomodating us, the nice phone lady said.
The River Market Brewing Company (for that evening) does accept reservations, and currently is expecting Cecil Adams and his group of 15 or so folks at 7:00. That’ll teach 'em to be open to the public.
You must have neglected to mention that I was going to be there. Smart man.
Well, hell, I have to miss it again. I’ll be at the Highland Games on Saturday (I’d say come see me in the Whiskey Tent, but you’ve got a full day going on already), and tearing down the Games on Sunday. Drink a Newcastle for me?
You know, one of these days we’ll get this scheduled so that you can show. Sheesh! That said, I can’t seem to make to the Highland Games each year, either–so I suppose we’re trading off.
Ha HAAAAAA!!! Look at that post time! Guess who stayed out too late at the bar and will probably be fashionably late (or outright missing) for the pizza party?
Not me, I hope.
I think the guest schedule for me is: 3 for the pizza party and museum, 1 for the dinner, and 6 for the picnic. Saturday has a good chance for rain, Sunday not so much. I plan to raid Skip’s medicine cabinets at his house again should we get rained out at the picnic. Pets beware…I’m bringing the bane of your existence in the form of unwashed, underage heathens.
notes Kat’s Newcastle drink request and dutifully marks it down on his booze card for the dinner Sigh. I’m SO responsible about taking care of my fellow Dopers…
I am so stoked, I can’t sleep! AND I a now officially a calendar girl!!! WOOt!
Gotta love that Opalcat.
Am I the first one here? Good! A word to the wise:
Don’t believe anything they say about me! I was perfectly behave, yes I was!
Why, yes, I am directionally challenged, why do you ask?
And the power was out all night in the motel, due to a huge storm.
Well, I obviously missed the picnic. Why? Because I slept until 3 in the afternoon.
