As they do for all pitchers.
Hmm.
As they do for all pitchers.
Hmm.
All major school districts in the area and several small ones, with the exception of Kansas City Public Schools, have cancelled classes tomorrow.
Ridiculous.
It is right and good for cities to have occasions to dance in the streets (metaphorically or not). The broader the appeal, the better. The only regrettable thing is that, apart from major sports titles, we seem to have so few.
I don’t know what your point is. My point is that you it’s preferable for a closer to start the inning clean. If you even have to think about whether your starter can keep going it’s time to bring in the closer, you don’t wait to find out if your starter will put the winning run on base.
Ok, just found out. Most of the KC area school districts are cancelling school tomorrow with the anticipation that many staff and students would have already taken the day off. So they are acting like its a snow day.
We’re in agreement on this point.
Which is a hardship on those parents who need to find coverage for their kids. I’m pretty happy with my district (North Kansas City) for keeping school open. My kids are all graduated, and I probably would have pulled them for the parade, but I’m looking to have a job that supports that.
Yes, thank you.
And mine just cancelled, at 2:30 the day prior. Best case scenario it only costs me $30.
Ok, I didn’t think of that part of it, it’s not something that was ever an issue in my life. It’s just another of society’s problems getting in the way of everyone having a good time.
Well, NKC schools are cancelling also. I guess peer pressure got to them (and I know the next district over said they were closing because they couldn’t get enough subs to cover “sick” teachers).
Hope everyone has a good time.
Nice to see that our teachers have their priorities straight.
Agree, it should be a family-by-family decision to keep your kids out and attend the parade, or otherwise celebrate. This decision will be an unplanned hardship for many.
Sicks Ate, I have your Royals shot glass prominently displayed in my baseball shrine (spare bed)room. Thanks again, and congrats to you and all Royals fans.
Nice
I did think about that when I saw another of your posts earlier.
Last night’s top of the 12th lasted 26 minutes as the Royals scored 5 runs and forced 38 pitches and a fielding error (E-4) from the Mets. Based on my stopwatch and FOX TV here are the highlights. Unfortunately I also listened to Buck again.
T12, RHP Addison Reed pitching
► 00:30 - Salvador Pérez singles to RF, 30 seconds after Reed’s first pitch
► 03:00 - PR Jarrod Dyson steals 2nd
► 04:00 - it’s now midnight in NYC
► 07:00 - Alex Gordon ground out, 3 unassisted, Dyson to 3rd on FC; 1 out
► 10:45 - Christian Colón singles to LF in his first 2015 postseason AB; RBI, Dyson scores go ahead run, KCR leads 3-2, 1 out
► 12:30 - Paulo Orlando ground ball to NYM 2B Daniel Murphy, fielding error; Orlando to 1st, Colón to 2nd; FC E-4; Murphy’s second straight game with an error
► 16:30 - Alcides Escobar doubles down LF line; Colón scores, Orlando to 3rd, KCR leads 4-2, 1 out
► 18:00 - Ben Zobrist IBB, bases loaded: Orlando on 3rd, Escobar on 2nd, Zobrist on 1st
Addison Reed total: 28 pitches; pitching change
RHP Bartolo Colón pitching
► 21:45 - Lorenzo Cain doubles to LCF on Colón’s 2nd pitch, on an 0-1 count, bases clear; KCR leads 7-2, 1 out
► 24:30 - Eric Hosmer grounds out, 4-3; 2 outs
► 25:52 - Mike Moustakas flies out to LF, 7 unassisted; 3 outs. KCR leads, 7-2
Bartolo Colón total: 10 pitches
This was an amazing onslaught of Royals baseball. Their 5 runs are the most ever scored in World Series extra inning history.
(The bottom of the 12th, from Wade Davis’ first motion to the final out on Davis’ 20th pitch of the inning, to Wilmer Flores, lasted 08:23. Those 20 pitches, the Mets made him work for it, even though the half inning was relatively uneventful. BTW, former SF Giant World Champion Juan Uribe was on deck when the final out was made.)
While the Series was very exciting (even being a Yankee fan, I watched every pitch), the Mets atrocious defense and amateurish managing lost it for them. Cespedes should have been benched early on. I think the golfing injury was worse than they let on. His batting was horrible and average major league center fielders catch the balls he that booted. Collins should have recognized this and gone with Conforto-Lagaras-Granderson. He didn’t have the cajones. I can’t remember ever seeing an outfielder literally booting 2 balls ever, let alone over a few games.
Wright and Murphy were also terrible in the field. And the Duda throw after the Wright soft toss that allowed the tying run was a comedy of errors. There were at least 4 mistakes on that play alone. The only position player for the Mets that had a good series was Granderson.
And that decision about keeping Harvey in the game after already telling him that he was done? Well, you have a bona fide world class closer (who threw 1 bad pitch in the entire post season) ready to go in the bullpen. But instead you continue with a pitcher who is already nearing his highest pitch count for the season and losing velocity? For that he gets a pass because it was basically out of his control. Harvey’s whining forced his hand. Collins hasn’t had the success in his career to overrule the young star.
Are you going then to the parade tomorrow?
I’m not. I’m just not into crowds. I think the best seat in the house will be in my own house.
Couldn’t agree more, about the Mets’ bad D. There are Mets’ questionable decisions, and also question Hosmer’s decision to run for the tying score, over on the other thread. Was trying to leave this thread for celebrating KC’s win. Maybe we can do the Mets/Collins second guessing and nay-saying over there?

Didn’t go - my sons are all in college out of town, otherwise I might have braved the mess.
